History: Annaliese was born in Emden, Germany, a town in northern Germany that lies close to the border with the Netherlands. Her family was wealthy, but they opted to not live in a major city like Berlin or Munich simply because they did not want to bring attention to themselves because of their magical abilities. They lived a very posh lifestyle, filled with luxury items, plenty of acquaintances, and spoiled children. Annaliese was the eldest of three and the only girl. They were all equally spoiled, although that did not prevent competition and tantrums from occurring when one of them would get something that seemed better than the others'. The house (though "mansion" would serve as a more accurate description) was void of love and warmth as a result, since everyone was focused on money and other material things.
Annaliese's parents were fans of the Dark Arts and sent their children to the Durmstrang Institute of Magical Learning as a result. During her years of study at Durmstrang, Annaliese found that she enjoyed potion-making and decided to become a potions professor upon completion of her magical education. She would be delayed in fulfilling her dream, however, after brothers Klaus and Anselm killed their parents in an effort to gain their hefty inheritance several decades early. They were caught and sentenced to death by a magical tribunal, using the Dementor's kiss as the weapon of choice for their death. Annaliese watched her brothers' execution emotionlessly, for she agreed that everything they were suffering while the dementors kissed each of them was well deserved after what they did to their parents for such a selfish reason. Annaliese was left to finish her final year at Durmstrang with no family at all, although she had tons of money from her inheritance, so she filled the void her parents and siblings left her with items, much in the same fashion she had been taught as a child.
Because of her cold, loveless upbringing, Annaliese did not have much of an inclination towards love and romance. As a result, she went through many different men without ever feeling anything deeper than attraction towards them. Only one man was able to make her feel love for the first time in her life, and he ended up completely crushing her very core. Emerich and Annaliese became friends during their final year at Durmstrang. They kept in touch after graduating from the school, and soon, love blossomed between the two. Annaliese fell hard, since she had never loved anyone before. The two had the typical whirlwind, fairy tale romance, full of flowers, dates, and trips to Emerich's beach house. They planned marriage and children, and all seemed right in their world. This world imploded after one year of being together when Emerich confessed to cheating on Annaliese with more than a dozen women and revealing that he did not love her any longer, that he felt absolutely nothing for her. These revelations completely destroyed the very human, caring person that Annaliese had become while with Emerich. She became more cold, ruthless, and selfish than before, no longer even mildly optimistic about anything.
Five years after her personal tragedy, and two years after teaching Potions at Durmstrang, she was offered a position as Potions master at Hogwarts after the school heard about her outstanding talents in the subject. She figured she was due for a change in pace and scene, since she had not been to too many places that stressed anything other than the Dark Arts. She is curious to see how her job at Hogwarts will turn out and whether or not her students will learn from someone well-versed in the Dark Arts.
Personality: Annaliese is a very introverted woman, not very social, and very serious. She has a very jaded view of the world and has a hard time dealing with people who are always optimistic. She has experienced a lot of pain in her past, so she trusts no one and often lashes out at those who try to help her. As a result, she is actually very vulnerable, despite her cold, indomitable exterior. She is a proud pureblood and has no qualms about expressing that pride to those around her. She will not talk down about muggle-borns, nor will she insult them, but she wishes everyone could be pureblooded.

Other: Annaliese can be viewed as the female version of Severus Snape (personality-wise). She has the same serious demeanor and dark wit that Severus is well known for, along with a preference for purebloods she can't help.

Rules
Attitude:
You will be expected to be on your best behavior. I will not tolerate any slacking off or goofing off. I expect that you give me the respect that I will give you. If you choose to treat me or other students with disrespect you will be punished according to my system. Remember that if you come into this class and have the right attitude and do what you are expected to do, then you will have absolutely no problem in my class. I bid you good luck with this and the rest of your studies this year.
Homework/Quiz/Tests:
Homework will be given out according to your class or you as an individual. If I suspect that you or the class have not paid attention and has not learned a thing from what I was teaching you will be given homework. The homework grade will also vary on what I think the lesson difficulty is.But as long as you are participating well, expect little homework.
Quizzes will also vary, depending on the lesson plan. I guarantee that an exam will be given at the end of the year on everything you've learned. This exam should not be taken lightly, but still do your best.
I also expect no cheating on any of these; cheaters will be an automatic 4. (Check Detention System.)
Tutor:
I have set up times for every day that you will be able to come in and ask me any questions about a lesson. There are times. though, that I will ask for you to schedule a tutor for that time for I may have something to do for that period. Please do not schedule a time because you want to get out of a class; I will find out.
Absences and Tardies:
If you are absent for my class then please come by my office at some time during your day and drop off a note regarding your absence. If you are absent and I get no note, you will be refered to your head of house who will decide what to do.
I expect everyone in here on time. If you are late it will be a 1. Two times will be a 2. Three times a 3 and any more a 4. Please look at my detention system for the corresponding numbers.
Detention System:
I will determine your fate according to my system.
1. A night's worth of detention (come straight after you eat your dinner) and 5 point deduction
2. A week's worth of detention (come straight after your dinner) and 10 point deduction
3. Two weeks' detention, a note to your head of House, and 20 point deduction
4. A month of detention, note to your head of house, note to Headmaster, and 500 points deduction. All credit goes to Mizu-no-Hime

These are the classes that I offer to students. Please join only the classes that your year corresponds to. I will not let anyone into more advanced classes.
Potions Level I: This is for the first years. They will be taught the basics of potions. Term, easy ingredients, and a simple potion here and there.
Potions Level II: This is a class for the second years. They will look at a little more advanced stuff. The instructions and ingredients will be harder but only slightly.
Potions Level III: This is a class for the third years. They will look at potions with a little more power. But just barely able to affect a dog or medium-sized animal.
Potions Level IV: This is a class for the fourth years. They will look at potions that will affect humans, but not harm them. They will also learn beginner O.W.L. level potions near the end of the year.
Potions Level V: This is a class for the fifth years. They will look at potions that will help them with their O.W.Ls this year.
Advanced Potions: A class for the sixth and seventh years. This is for all the advanced people that have finished all the courses. They will focus on N.E.W.T level potions.

In paragraph form please tell me your name, house, and year. I would also like to know the class you are applying for with the level of that class and a reason as to why you would like to join. I don't want a reason like "Because it's required" or "Because I'm bored"; I want a well thought out reason.

James ran into the Potions room 5 seconds after the bell cussing under his breath as he slid in. He looked up to see that it was a brand new professor and cursed again as he took a seat in the back. He had over slept this morning since he had been up playing games and goofing off until early in the morning. He quickly pulled out his book not even looking at the professor.

 Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese stepped out from the shadows behind her desk and walked to the head of the class, roving her piercing eyes over the entire class. She folded her arms in front of her and said, "My name is Professor Zanbrecher, and I am your new Potions master. Since it is the beginning of the second part of your term, I trust you know what we do in this class. If not, well, I can't help you very much with that. To freshen your memory, who can tell me what a Bezoar stone is?" She quickly snapped her eyes onto James and said, "I think this young man would be the most fitting to enlighten us, seeing as how he feels he is above the castle law to arrive to class on time. Tell me, what is a Bezoar stone?" She waited on James' answer, the corners of her lips turning up into a cruel smile in anticipation of his response.

James' head snapped up as he looked at the professor. All of the kids had turned to look at him as she called on him and he resisted the urge to slide deeper into his seat. He wasn't the kind to get nervous in front of teachers but he really had no idea what a Bezoar was. She had called it a stone and he could remember Emily going off about sometime before but that was because she was a Potions whiz. "Uh, is it a magical beetle that has some good quality needed for Potions?" It's really all he could think of at the moment and since it wasn't a class about creatures he had to somehow tie it into Potions.

Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese fought the urge to laugh out loud at James' response, but her smile did grow more pronounced on her face. "That is the furthest possible definition of a Bezoar I have ever heard," she said, unable to suppress a chuckle. "Five points from Gryffindor for a wonderfully incorrect answer, and another five for tardiness. See me after class for additional prizes. I hope next time you will think twice about being late to my class." She let that sink in with the rest of the students before she continued. "A Bezoar stone comes from the stomach of a goat and is a useful antidote against most potions. It, obviously, is not 'a magical beetle that has some good quality needed for Potions.'" She smirked at James once more before continuing the lesson.

When Professor Zanbrecher started smiling he knew he had gotten it wrong. Shrugging it off he put his head down. When she started taking points though he looked up again. "It's the first day of class and I overslept." James couldn't help the retort that came. It was just second nature to him and showed slightly his relation with Emily. She was a smart mouth but the difference was that she had a high respect for authority so would never say things like that to Professors. He was just learning very fast that this would not be a professor he liked.

Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese's gaze shifted back to James at his outburst. She tilted her head in mock confusion and said, a fresh smile dancing on her lips again, "You overslept? Well I'm very sorry for that. You know what? Maybe I'll adjust my class time so it fits in with your sleeping pattern; would that be a good fit for you? Incidentally, just what is your name? We have been chatting for a good part of this class and I don't even know who's the one that has been welcoming me so warmly." She smiled sweetly at James as she awaited his response.

James' expression was just as cold as he looked at the Professor. When she asked his name he almost told her, but her smile made him stop. That made him worry a bit. As soon as she learned his last name she would know his relations and probably go to Emily. Having Emily down his back first period of the first day back was the last thing wanted so raised his hands in surrender. "Fine, shutting up. Carry on."
