User Name:LilyEvansDouble Teacher name biggrin aniel Blackburn House:Gryffindor Age:26 description: Blood: Mix, father a muggle born mother half blood. Wand:13 inch, Hickory, Hippogriff feather. History: Daniel was born in Sweden, but when he was 2 his family moved to a small house in the muggle outskirts of London and that's all he has ever known. He was an only child but it wasn't for lack of trying. His parents had tried for 6 years before Daniel came along, and they tried as hard as they could to give him a little brother or sister to grow up with but it was no use. Instead Annabelle and Richard Blackburn had just Daniel and were very grateful for him so worked on raising him the best they could, making sure he had everything he needed, and taking care to let him grow up being polite and respectful but also knowing how to get what he wanted out of life. Daniels father believed firmly in the saying 'spare the rod spoil the child' as he had been raised with a father that believed it. His mother on the other hand believed firmly that freedom and liberty was a reward and privilege needed to be revoked if abused. As a result Daniel was accustomed to being spanked by his father and grounded by his mother whenever he was in need of discipline. From infancy he was taught to always be completely honest in all things, respect all authority and women, never touch another person unless he was helping them with their permission, to never quit, and to always put his school first.
Daniel's father had been sorted into Ravenclaw during his Hogwarts years and wanted his son to know all he could. Therefore he enrolled Daniel in the local Elementary school and encouraged him to always try his best. He was pleased to learn that Daniel had his brains as well as his love for school. He was less enthusiastic when he got a phone call from Daniel's school when the boy was in 2nd grade saying he had been suspended for fighting. Richard and Annabelle owned Flourish and Blotts and they had worked out a schedule that left Richard working from 8:00-1:00 and Annabelle from 1:00-6:00 each doing the shift Monday through Saturday and closing the store on Sundays saving that day for family. Since it was 1:30 when the school called it was a fuming Richard that went to pick up his son from the front office where he learned that Daniel had overheard a boy in his class making fun of a girl in the 1st grade. Daniel had stepped in to tell the boy to back off only to get shoved and laughed at as the boy went back to the girl. With the blood rushing to his head from anger Daniel decided to take action and the next thing he knew the two boys were rolling on the ground fighting. Daniel's magical abilities had given him the upper hand and he wound up wailing on the boy until the recess aid separated the two and took them to the office. Daniel was heavily scolded for fighting and when he got home he received a hard spanking and his mother told him he was grounded until his suspension was up, but he was also prided for defending the girl even though he knew it would probably land him in trouble. The girl rewarded him with a kiss the first day he was back at school and Daniel knew that it was all worth it.
While Daniel's father had been in Ravenclaw, his mother had been sorted into Gryffindor. Daniel has his father’s brains, but his mothers love for life and it's this reason that he enjoyed being in Gryffindor so much. His mother had always enjoyed finding new kicks out of life and so did Daniel. This is why he out riding one June morning when he was 10 and came across an old coal mine that had closed years before. There was a sign in font of the opening that said it was closed due to hazardous circumstances and nobody was allowed within 10 feet of it. Ignoring the sign Daniel tied his horse up to a post 5 feet from the entrance where she could graze for a bit and he entered the mine. After 20 minutes of exploring Daniel had had his fill and was on his way out when he tripped and as he hit the ground the mine started collapsing around him. Terrified by the sounds and knowing that he master had not returned his horse started whinnying and making such a racket that the old man that lived a few Meters away came out of his house to see what was going on. Seeing the horse by the mine and hearing the crashing inside he ran back into the house and grabbed a flashlight before running to the mine and yelling inside to see if anyone was in there. Daniel replied back saying he was hurt but not seriously. He just needed help finding a way out because his light had been broken in his fall. The old man entered and after only a few minutes of following Daniel's voice he found the boy and helped him out. He scolded the boy and told him that he had been very lucky not to get killed. Daniel listened to the old man lecture him about the dangers of the mine and youngsters not being able to read these days, and if they could read they were too disobedient to care and that if it had been him he would have been over his Pa’s knee with his britches down before he was even out of the mine. Daniel listened respectfully and thanked the old man for his help as he apologized for the trouble. He had a limp to his walk and his clothes were torn and dirty but otherwise he was fine. When he went to mount his horse though she took off without him and he wound up having to accept a ride home from the old man. When the beaten old blue ford pulled into Daniels Driveway both his parents were waiting having seen the horse come back some ten minutes earlier, and upon site of their sons condition asked what happened. The old man lost no time in telling the parents exactly what had happened with the cave in and the sign that Daniel had ignored and then the spooked horse running off. Richard thanked the old man for helping his son, and ensuring that Daniel had made it home safely. He then assured the man that Daniel would be punished. Sure enough as soon as the old man drove off Daniel was brought inside and before his mother was allowed to patch him up Daniel was given a good hard spanking with a scolding that lasted all through it and the rest of the day as well as being grounded for 2 weeks.
It was this same spirit that got him through Hogwarts, but he grew to be a favorite of many of the teachers quickly and he was the Gryffindor with the fewest letters sent home each year. Daniel was always top of his class, and in 5th year he made Prefect. 7th Year he became Head boy and although those three years were tough he never gave up trying his best. After he left school Daniel went and worked in his parents store before taking a year to travel the world where he met a young witch from the United States by the name of Sabrina. She caught his interest and even when he went back home they stayed in touch. At 21 he talked her into moving to London and the two got married when he was 22 and had a baby girl 18 months later. Today he has his oldest Samantha who just turned 4 in July, and twin boys Paul and Joshua who are 15 months old. His wife is also pregnant with their fourth child due the beginning of January. He had been working his parents store with Sabrina at his side but in December of last year his old friend Conan Dasklin called him up and told him he was having even more trouble than usual holding onto a DADA teacher and asked him to take the position starting right after thee break. Daniel took it knowing he had never really liked running the store and this would still be a stable job where he could support his family even if they were farther apart. He had always thought about going back to Hogwarts, but never got the courage to apply. He now returns for his second year as the professor much to the astonishment of most of the staff and students.
Personality: Daniel is strict like his father, but also fun loving like his mother. He is always trying to think of ways to liven up boring lectures but if you misbehave he has no problem coming up with swift punishments. He is also a very fair person so he'll give you a chance to explain if you want, but unless you have a very good excuse and a witness the most that will do is possibly lessening a punishment. Daniel believes in rewards as well so it's not uncommon for him to either give or take house points depending on your actions. Daniel is also one to give out detention and extra work like its candy if you're misbehaving so watch your back. He's strong both physically and mentally so you are not advised to start fights because he can and will finish them. You can often find Daniel laughing and enjoying life, but he also knows when to be serious and he will always demand the respect he deserves as a Professor. Pet: A tawny owl his position: Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.

Classroom Rules
Come Prepared: This class is very rigorous and I expect you to step up to the plate by being prepared. This means that you have your book at ALL times. Those in the older classes will not need their books a lot but they are expected to carry them just in case and there WILL be book checks randomly. If a student of any house or year is caught without their book it will result in a 1 on my discipline scale. If it's repeated in a week that student will move up each time but it starts over each week.
Talking: You WILL NOT talk while I am speaking, or during my tests. If you have a question or comment you WILL raise your hand and wait for me to call on you. If you fail to do this you will receive a 1 on my discipline scale and if you do it repeatedly through the week it will go up each time. You will start over with the start of a new week however.
Passing Notes: I had better not see a single note being passed in this class. The only time you would need to pass notes is during a lecture or test and I won't allow it. If I catch you I will take the note and read it to the class. Whoever I took it from and whoever it was getting passed to will then receive a 1 on my discipline scale to increase EVERY time I take a note no matter the time frame between. Even if you did not write the note and are just passing on because you're in the middle you will be punished as the sender. If the note is offensive to anyone it will be jumped to a 2 on the discipline scale and it will be given to EVERYONE involved. That is whoever started it to MY knowledge, and EVERYONE who has hand writing on that piece of paper. If it's during a test it will be counted as cheating and EVERYONE involved will receive a 5 on my discipline scale and a 0 on that test.
Magic: The ONLY spells you are to use are those I have told you to. If I have not told you to do magic or a certain spell and I see it you can bet that you will IMMEDIATELY find yourself stunned and getting a 5 on my discipline scale. You will also have your wands confiscated to be picked up at the end of your detention that night. That means that if you can't serve it with me that night you won't get it until you can serve with me.
Fighting: Fighting will get you stunned and an automatic 5 on my discipline scale. If it's with your wand you will lose your wand until the end of the first day of detention with me. Just like for magic without permission.
Homework and Tests: I give a lot of homework and I expect it to be done the next day. I will collect it at the beginning of the class and if you don't have yours you will receive a 0 on the assignment and a 1 on my discipline scale. As for tests, they will be given every second and fourth Friday of the month. They WILL be comprehensive for that year unless you are in the O.W.L. of N.E.W.T. level in which case they will be comprehensive for ALL years. If you are caught cheating you will receive a 0 on the test and a 5 on my discipline scale.
Tutoring All tutoring is by appointment. If you feel that you need extra help contact me and set up a time so that I can help you. If I feel you need extra help I will come to you and tell you to come to tutoring. If you don't come I will consider it a neglect and you will receive a 3 on my discipline scale.
Foul Language: I don't hold with foul language and if I hear it you will get a 2 on my discipline scale. It's disrespectful to those around and it's a very immature way to handle things.
Detention: Detention is not something I take lightly. If you have it you deserve it and I won't go easy on you. You will sit with me for 1 hour doing whatever it is I have come up with and I can tell you now it will NOT be lines. If you are late to a detention I will not accept you and it will be considered skipped. If your detention is considered skipped I will consider it a neglect and you will get a 3 on my discipline scale.
Tardies and Absences: Don't even think about it. You know your schedule and I expect you to keep it from day 1. First years, ask for help if you struggle because I will not be lenient. Your entire body is to be in a chair behind a desk BEFORE the tardy bell rings or talking to me. If this is not the case you WILL be considered tardy and receive a 2 on my discipline scale unless you have a note. If you miss my class you have until before class the next day to get a note in my hand or it's a neglect and you will get a 3 on my discipline scale.
Discipline Scale
1. Verbal Reprimand and a loss of 5 house points. 2. 1 night of detention and a loss of 5 house points. 3. 5 nights of detention and a loss of 10 house points. 4. 2 weeks of detention and a loss of 20 house points. 5. A month of detention and a loss of 50 house points. 6th and 7th years will be removed from my class.

~Daniel Blackburn~
Daniel had spent his preparatory time in his classroom since he had no appointments with students until after school. After school he knew that Ricky would come in again to try and catch up since he was in danger of failing all together. Now Daniel waited for his students to come in. He had asigned a lengthy bit of homework over the holiday, so did not expect very many to be happy to see him, but these were his N.E.W.T. students after all."
~Richard S. Sanders~
Ricky walked into Defense with a sigh. He had been failing this class all year long, and despite his best efforts, he just couldn't get his grades up. Ricky had asked Scarlett for help several times, and though she was more than willing, she was just so much better that Ricky only felt like an idiot. Ricky was also spending the detention hours with Professor Blackburn just to get the extra help, but so far it wasn't doing any good. He had also struggled greatly on the homework for this class over the break so was pretty sure he had flunked that as well. More than once it had crossed Ricky's mind to drop History and come in for Professor Blackburn's tutor period, but Ricky had decided that it didn't matter because no matter how much work he put in, he would never get any better.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett walked into Defense behind Ricky and in front of Alyssa, since they all had walked together from History of Magic. She saw Ricky's shoulders slump as they entered the classroom and felt immediately saddened by his dejection. She had tried to help him the best she could before the holidays, but for some reason, it was difficult for him to comprehend the subject matter and to put it into practice. She had been very patient with him whenever she helped him, but he would always get frustrated with himself whenever she explained something thoroughly and he only understood about a third of what she said. She felt inadequate as a teacher, feeling like maybe she wasn't explaining it well enough or in simple enough terms, but she knew Ricky felt worse for not being able to understand anything and especially for being so close to failing the course. She gave Ricky a small squeeze on his shoulder, giving him a nonverbal sign that she was there for him and that she understood how he felt. She saw Professor Blackburn already there and greeted, "Good morning, Professor Blackburn", giving her Head of House a warm smile before taking a seat next to Ricky at the front of the class.

Daniel stood as his students started filing in. "Good morning Miss Eaves, I hope your break was good." Daniel spoke firmly as he replied to Scarlett before waving his wand and making the chalk write down his words. "Before you take your seats, make sure to turn in your holiday homework. Make sure that all papers are sealed together with a binding spell, and neatly in the order required. Set them on the corner of my desk, take your seat, pull out note writing material, as well as your book. Those without a book today know my discipline scale. Sit quietly and wait for further instructions." Daniel finished speaking and the chalk finished writing before settling onto the board again. Daniel took his seat as he waited for the bell. He knew he didn't have long, and he would start right on time.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett stood up at Professor Blackburn's instructions and turned in her winter assignment to his desk at the head of the class. She returned to her desk and pulled out some parchment, a quill, ink, and her textbook and faced forward to wait for class to start. As Ricky returned to his desk from turning in his homework, Scarlett gave him a small smile, trying to show him at least in a small way that things would be okay and also attempting to lift his mood, even by a hair.

Ricky gave half a smile at Scarlett as he sighed and turned in his winter homework. He then sat at his desk as he pulled out his things to take notes. Even taking notes like there was no tomorrow and studying them hadn't done any good and Ricky could still hear Professor Blackburn's words ringing in his ears as he thought about their conversation the last day before break. "You're going to be an auror right? Well you're failing Defense Against the Dark Arts, and that is one of the most important classes, if not the most important. I don't want you to kill off all options, but I'm giving you this advice as your Head of House. Drop History of Magic, Astronomy, or Care of Magical Creatures. They are not classes required for your field, and you need the extra time to catch up just in the classes you do need." Daniel had then stood and analized Ricky for a moment as he thought about how the boy would take it as a major pride cut to have to drop classes. "You don't have to drop all 3 Sanders. If you can somehow pull your grades up you don't even have to drop either of them. I'll tell you what, why don't you do the Winter homework and we'll talk again. If you do poor on it then we'll continue these sessions, but I will continue to advise you to drop at least one of those classes. If you do fine then you can continue these sessions until you are passing my class and keep all of your other classes as well." Ricky sighed as this ran through his head. He had wrestled with which classes to drop all break. It felt even more odd because in the back of his head he kept thinking about how if he dropped the classes he would lose that time with Scarlett.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett placed her elbow on her desk and leaned her head into her hand, staring off vacantly into the wall behind the board. She was feuding with herself over what would be the best way to pick up her grades, since they had begun slipping slightly towards the end of the first half of term. She didn't know why, but all of a sudden, she had begun feeling very exhausted. It baffled her because she was only taking 6 classes, having opted not to take Astronomy and Care of Magical Creatures since they were not required for being an Auror--something she was highly glad about; she loved gazing at the stars and loved animals, but she really did not like taking those classes. She guessed that the intense workload each of her professors had given the N.E.W.T. students had been, well, intense, and had cost her many sleepless nights as she stayed up, frantically attempting to finish her assignments. She had gotten lazy the last month of school, however, opting for resting when she got a chance over poring over her assignments. It had cost her her usual "Outstanding" grades, and had even earned her an "Acceptable" in History of Magic, something which made her slap herself (physically and mentally) and made her promise to herself to not be lazy during the last half of her last term at Hogwarts. The last thing she wanted was for her dream of being an Auror to not be fulfilled out of her own sheer laziness, so she knew she had to try harder. Gazing at Professor Blackburn's instructions on the board, however, made her realize that it was going to be much more difficult than she imagined.

The bell rang and Daniel waved his wand to vanish the booklets of paper on his desk. He then erased the board with another flick of his wand and faced his class. "Alright, so I hope you guys had a half way decent break. I know I'm not your favorite person with how much homework I gave you, but you are N.E.W.T. students and all of you are expected to be able to do the work. It won't last too much longer, but this is the part where it can go one of two ways. 7th years, you are probably noticing that you either don't want to work, or you are just excited to be almost done. If you are in the first class make sure to keep up. You will have to force yourself to work and just keep going. I won't be getting any easier on you, and neither will any of the other teachers. Today unfortunately is going to be a lot of lecture from my part so I need you to just hold tight. I know you're used to dueling and actually getting in practice, but you'll just have to suck it up for today." With that Daniel launched into a long and complicated lecture.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett stayed in her same head-in-hand position during Professor Blackburn's lecture, her jaw slightly slack as she listened to the complicated mess and tangle of words he was using to describe a concept Scarlett had never heard about. She knew she was in deep trouble then; she had only failed to follow a lecture once before, and that was after a bout of stomach flu that she had gotten one day, and thus had missed class the previous day, making it almost impossible to understand the day's lecture. She tried to pay closer attention to what Blackburn was saying, but he may as well have been giving the lecture in Swedish, his native language, for all the good attentiveness was doing for Scarlett. She was now appreciating just how difficult understanding Defense was for Ricky. She could only imagine before, but now, she felt that they were both on the same, rocky boat, drifting further from shore.
