The Mistletoe

Under the mistletoe,
I see a boy,
perhaps my age
walking toward me.

He smiles and says"The mistletoe"
and points and there it is,
a mistletoe
waiting for the right moment
for us
to kiss...

Christmas Cheer

It's Christmas time again so lets give a cheer
And gifts to friends or someone very dear
There will be singing and dancing all through the night
And the atmosphere will be very light
Hurray for Christmas a time for laughter and joy
And maybe find that special boy
Christmas should be everyday
So people could celebrate any day

My submission is part of a series of short stories featuring a character named Fasia... and that's not funny. Anyway, seeing as it would probably take up too much room in this thread and is loosely connected to the other stories, I've added it to the thread I keep the series in. My submission to this contest is the third post from the top.

Luck

This is my story called a Christmas Wish. I apologize if its to long sweatdrop

I stood on my back porch, facing the snowy land that kept going and a pitch-black sky that had no little spots. Maybe if the stars were out, I would feel a bit better. They would give me some hope that maybe somewhere, someone is looking down on Derek, making sure his life isn’t shot out of him. My head automatically tipped back as my third bottle of miller light dwindled into nothing inside my mouth.
“If you’re getting drunk, so will I!!! Then we’ll have some real fun,” A voice slithered into my ears, just above a whisper. Warm, secure arms wrapped around my waist, but they weren’t the ones I wanted. More like needed, if I was to stay sane another year.
“James Peter Marcus, get your arms off of me right now,” I told James sternly and demanding. Thankfully, he let go, but he was still close. When I was drunk, I was usually a happy-go-lucky drunk. But I wasn’t going to put up with James’ attempts to make me happy. Give me another beer and I’ll be fine. The remnants of a sigh brushed my neck like lingering fingers.
“Look, I know you miss him. I do to. He is, after all, my brother from another mother. But I can feel he’s all right. Knowing him, he’s probably swimming in gold. And you know what, he’s probably missing you more then you miss him. Now come on, we have friends to get drunk with and a bathroom to throw up in.” A sigh hissed its way through my teeth. The him was Derek Massy. MY Derek Massy. See, five years ago, on Christmas Eve, he enrolled in the army. I’ve had phone calls, but I haven’t seen him since. What’s even worse today was Christmas Eve. So, to deal with my missing half, I drank it up. Now, we weren’t married, but we might as well be. We’ve been together for three years and we were hoping to get married before he enrolled in the army. But an opening came up sooner, and we didn’t have the time. The thoughts faded away until my mind went blank. I struggled to find a crack on the blank wall that had found a way to block the thoughts. Unconscious commands seem to make me turn around, smile a brilliant smile, and say, “Lets go get drunk and pass out on my floor.” Holding my head high, I walked passed James and entered a bright light, otherwise known as my living room. My one story house wasn’t big, but it wasn’t tiny either. It had a nice kitchen with everything in it, four bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and two full bathrooms. My house looked like an L without the driveway. The living room had six people in it. My two best friends, Sammy and Mishell, both are engaged. Then you have Mark, Derek’s brother, and also Mishells soon to be husband, and Tim, Sammy’s soon to be husband. Last but not least, Sasha (me) and James had just entered the room. My Christmas tree was in the corner and was overflowing with ornaments, and there was a mistle-toe hanging over every doorway. That’s as far as decorating goes for me. My friend and I always have this get together. We get together, get drunk, pass out, wake up, and complain about our hangovers before we open presents Christmas day. It had been at least three hours since I came in from the porch and we were all noticeably drunk. I still had sense though. I had just finished my fifth beer, and I can stomach about ten or twelve before I become forgetful. We were playing a trivia game on my T.V Mishell had brought over. Since we were drunk, we had created this crazy rule; if (when) you get an answer wrong, one article of clothing goes. Mark, Tim, and James still had their pants on. The girls, who were winning by far, still had everything on. The guys were getting a bit crazy and angry, but us girls were chill. Maybe a laughing fit here or there, but we’re drunk. After a three-minute laugh attack, I glanced at the clock on the T.V and noticed it was 11:11. Tradition says we have to make a Christmas wish on 11:11 Christmas eve. We do what ever the tradition says.
“WISH TIME!!!” I call out. Everyone froze and closed their eyes, silently wishing for something. So they still had part of their heads. I closed my eyes also, and wished for the only thing I want, for Derek to come back and marry me. The event soon passed and people started dropping off. They all seem to end up on the floor. I stepped over everyone on my way to my room, which was at the end of the hall. My wish seems to fill my mind before I floated into sleep.

Waking up was refreshing. I didn’t have a major hangover, but I didn’t drink twenty beers either, only about eight. Still in my Pj’s I groggily walked out of my room, and down the hall. I stopped at the door to the living room, eyes wide, at the scene before me. Derek was on his knee with his uniform still on and a smile spread across his lips. I couldn’t believe it. So, naturally, I just stood there with my mouth hanging open and my eyes popping out of my head. Derek’s smile grew as he pulled a little black box from behind his back. He opened the box slowly and dramatically, only to reveal a beautiful ring.
“Will you marry me?” He asked as though he didn’t already know the answer. Derek dropped the box and stood up as I jumped into his arms and forcefully smashed our lips together. It felt like hours, but only a couple of minutes had passed before he pulled away, still close. “I’m taking that as a yes.” As my answer, I just put our lips together, but more gentle this time. So I guess Christmas wishes do come true.
