Ei! Sì, tu! Ma che fai? Se tu credi di poter insegnare meglio questa lingua, fatti sentito qui! Io non mai pretendo di essere un maestro di nessuna lingua~! ok?TO BE EDITED. HEY ALL! I'm sick crying My mental state is a little fuzzy, sooo I don't know if I'll be getting much done while I'm sick. I'll still answer questions, but, gah, I can't think for more than 30 seconds. -Yes, I know, I always have an excuse to not be here, rofl. Christmas time though! On top of being sick, I had family visiting =/ I'll definitely find time for you guys! =] I'll still respond when able, and do the word of the day whenever I can! I'll update the lessons when I have more time ^^;;I promise to edit all of this properly later ~ ~ ~ ! lol. Until then, feel free to post w/e, and I'll be sure to respond. Here we will learn the Italian language! But what is the Italian language? According to Wikipedia, Italian is "a Romance language spoken by about 60 million people in Italy, and by a total of around 70 million in the world."Q: What the poop does that mean?Actually, that doesn't mean anything, other than it's a language derivative of Latin, and a truckload of people speak it! XDQ: Ok...so...?Right! Back to Wiki! "Standard Italian, adopted by the state after the unification of Italy, is based on Tuscan (in particular on the dialects of the city of Florence) and is somewhat intermediate between the Italo-Dalmatian languages of the South and the Gallo-Romance Northern Italian languages. Its development was also influenced by the other Italian dialects and by the Germanic language of the post-Roman invaders."Q: Dude, you lost me again...Basically, Italian is a beautiful language with many influences and dialects, but the one that we will be focusing on will be the Tuscan dialect!!Q: Dialect..?Yes. Every language has these, even English. The way northerners speak is far different from the way that southerners speak. I'll give you an example:English: I want to marry a donkey Standard Italian (Tuscan): Voglio sposarmi ad un assino Sicilian (Southern-most Italian): Me vogghiu maritari nu scieccu Q: Woah dude... you lost me AGAIN!Lol, don't worry about it. We'll be focusing on Standard Italian, but I'm here to help in various dialects if anyone has any specific needs! I specialize in Tuscan, Sicilian, Calabrian, and Napolitan dialects.Let me tell you a little about myself, and then I'll give you a table of contents~! Ok? Who is Nico, and what kind of things does he say?Err, I'm Nico, and I say things like this? I'm a native Sicilian speaker. I'm first generation USA in my family (my parents are right off the boat from Sicily, but I was born in USA). This means that I fluently speak the Sicilian dialect of Italy (which is older than modern standard Italian, for your informtion,) and American-English. As such, I will host my lessons in American-English, unless anyone needs help specifically in another language that I understand. While I'm a fluent speaker of Sicilian, that does not mean that I'm incompetent in Standard Italian; I do, in fact, excel in the Tuscan dialect (Standard Italian). We all have Professoressa Mansella to thank for that! XD In just a few short months, she took my rough Italian and turned it into that of an educated Italian! Sometimes, I think she's mean for making me learn parts of grammar that even the Italians have difficulty comprehending gonk But I'm glad to have the ability to speak intelligently. I'm pretty patient, so no matter how stupid your questions are, or how many times you ask, I'll always answer them and try different methods of explaining to make sure that you fully understand! Other than that, I don't think that there's anything that you need to know about me xd If you want to get to know me, try to fit it into the lessons somehow, or send me a PM. Just don't be all creepy and ask me for my address lmao. I won't give you my address! gonk I may post on Italian culture in the future. Buttt I don't feel that this is necessary at present time. More to come...

Prima d'avvanzare... Before continuing...
You need to know how to pronounce the letters! The Italian alphabet consists of 22 standard letters. They are: a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,z The other letters may be used in borrowed words, but that's not really Italian, so I won't even discuss them until we come across them. The pronunciation that I will use will be based on ENGLISH sounds. If I can find a better/universal pronunciation chart, I will include it or use it in place of the current one. For now, I assume that everyone knows the English sounds. If anybody needs any help with pronunciation, I'm availableee to assist! H is silent Ok, I know what sounds they make, but I still can't pronounce the word gonk Which part do I emphasize!?Emphasis always goes on the second-to-last syllable of a word, unless otherwise specified by accent marks or in certain borrowed words.Example (unaccented): Viene il lupo mannaro! (The boogy man comes!) Vi ene il lupo mann aro! Example (accented): E conquistò la città quel martedì con la sua personalità santa. (And he conquered the city that Teusday with his holy personality.) E conquist ò la citt à quel marted ì con la sua personalit à santa. -as with all rules, there are some exceptions. Don't worry about them, just always assume that all words follow the rule. When we hit words that break the rule, I'll be sure to let you know with underlines where the stress is!Another important note is that Italian is a gender-specific and number-specific language. Every object has a gender, and a quantity. An object can be masculine singular, masculine plural, feminine singular, or feminine plural. Lul. Gender What?Masculine (singular) words usually end in "O" Masculine (plural) words usually end in "I" Feminine (singular) words usually end in "A" Feminine (plural) usually end in "E"I say *usually* because there are plenty of words that don't follow this basic rule. Those words were made to trick us gonk But we can just learn them as they come! Some words end in "E" even though they are singular. We will learn their genders eventually, but when in doubt, just assume that they're masculine, as the Italian language tends to be sexist against females anyway XDDD (I'm sorry, but it's true. There will be times when feminine objects or persons won't even be recognized.) Words that end in "E" in the singular form change to end in an "I" in the plural. We also have transsexual words. Please don't mind those. Some ancient Italian scholars just thought that they were surgeons, so they thought they could give some of the words a sex change. (Some words end in the terminating letter of the opposite gender just to confuse us. Don't worry, this is rare! I promise biggrin ) It should also be noted that BORROWED words will retain their original ending AND be masculine! (ie: il computer) Borrowed verbs will always take the "ARE" ending (ie: textare [to text], chattare [to chat], pwnare [to pwn]) (i'm gonna rearrange some of this later, lol...) Articles All nouns have articles that precede them. The article just means "the" or "a" or "an". The article must match in gender and number with the noun. Masculine Singular Masculine Plural Il I L' Gli Lo Gli Feminine Singular Feminine Plural La Le L' Le
Il is placed before regular masculine singular nouns that begin with a consonant. L' is placed before any singular noun that begins with a vowel. Lo is placed before masculine singular words that begin with z or s+impure consonant (c/t) I is placed before regular masculine plural nouns. Gli is placed before masculine plural nouns that took L' or Lo in the singular. La is for regular fem. nouns that begin with a consonant. Le is for all plural fem. nouns, including those that took L' in the singular.
Examples: il gatto (the cat) il ragazzo (the boy) i gatti (the cats) i ragazzi (the boys) la pizza (the pizza) la ragazza (the girl) le pizze (the pizzas) le ragazze (the girls) l'orologio (the clock) gli orologi (the clocks) l'alba (the dawn) le albe (the dawns) lo zio (the uncle) gli zii (the uncles)
This may all seem confusing now, but it will make sense later on, I promise! =]
