Garion sat with his legs crossed in the middle of a forest. His purpose? Meditation. He knew that in times to come, he would need the focus training. His Golem stood guard beside him, silently scanning its surroundings for any signs of a threat. It could not yet speak, but it had hopes of being able to soon. Garion could feel this, not in words, but in emotions. The earth had recently taken the habit of speaking to him. Like he was some sort of Emissary for it, and there was really no way for him to avoid its calls, for the earth was everywhere, no matter where he went.
Garion questioned this greatly. Why was he chosen to be spoken to? He knew of none others in his village who had such a gift, nor had any spoken of in legends have such an ability. These were the thoughts that ran through his head, even though at a glance it would look as if he were asleep. He was just aware of his surroundings as the golem, though, if not more so. Any unnatural vibrations in the earth would let him detect anyone approaching from miles away, and even now he could hear the deer trotting, the shifting of the nocturnal predators, and the squirrels digging their food into the ground for shelter. Even now he could feel the trees, sapping the moisture beneath them that sustained their life, given freely by the earth to keep itself perpetuated. Even now he could feel an earthquake of epic proportions in a desert far away. The earth was a messenger who carried things swiftly, violently, and globally. Even now the Earth told him that soon, someone would appear to fight him.
Even now he prepared.
