I'm sure most of you have heard of OOC but may be unfamiliar with it. Well if you just look at most RPs you could figure out what it means. But allow me to simplify it.
OOC stands for Out Of Character, or in even simpler terms, you speaking directly to your fellow RPers. OOC is a useful tool in RP but like most tools, can be used too much.
OOC is most commonly used to alert the other people in your RP that you will be taking a leave of absense, or to correct them on a mistake they made.
Sometimes it is used incorrectly to have conversations. NEVER DO THIS. As whimsical as it may seem, it eats up pages of the RP until you have more OOC than actual story.
In some cases, usually advanced RPs, the owner will make a seperate thread dedicated solely to OOC. This is an excellent thing to do as it cuts down on unneeded conversations in the story and allows people to discuss the RP and what not.

How to OOC.
When using OOC it is usually seperated from the story by add something like this.
((example)) [[example]] {{example}}
This indicates that you are speaking outside of the RP.
Do not abuse this power.
I will show you the correct and incorrect use of OOC
Correct use-
((Hey, I have to get off, try not get to far ahead))
[[Sorry but this is going to fast for me, I'm gonna have to quit]]
{{I'm going on vacation, won't be on for about a week or so}}
Incorrect use-
((This RP is sooooooo Fun, what do you guys think?))
[[Hey guys, what's up]]
{{Hey I was at DisneyLand and guess what they had. A child eatng python!}}
Now there are some cases in which it is controversial to use OOC.
Some examples
((Back, what did I miss))
[[Were you talking to me or the other guy]]
The first one could be cleared up by adding a "Story So Far" post at the beginning and update it every now and then.
The second one could better be solved by PMing the person, but this also takes longer. It can also be human error. Writer wasn't ver descriptive, or reader isn't very intelligent.

I mentioned before how people create threads that are dedicated to the OOC for an RP.
To do this make a seperate thread and Name it as follows
(Your RPs name here)-OOC Thread
You should also make a link to the thread on your RP introduction. This way you and the other people have a quick way to get to it.
With this in mind, making a seperate thread for OOC is only neccesary if you are eithe rmaking a very advanced RP or you just don't want to deal with OOC in your RP.
