I didn't think Tony would make it, but he did. And it seems with John Howards blessing.

But what a mess. It was exactly the same s**t they were all whinging about the Labour Party doing before the last election.
Will Tony be the answer. With Joe Hockey as first choice, I thought the Libs were going down the 'Kim Beasley' path, Malcolm provied the 'Kevin' part, whilst Abbot provides the 'Latham' element.

So exciting, watching the whole thing implode.

On a different note, how many acres of land do you think KRudd needs to plant with trees to make his flights around the world carbon neutral.
Actually, it looks like most of the world's leaders now run their Countries from an altitude of 35,000 feet.

It is most unfortunate that the new Opposition leader is a monarchist, but I can agree with the comparison to Mark Latham, since the libs are going to be murdered at the next election, especially if they go into it as climate sceptics, so to speak.

This has been most amusing. The most interesting Australian politics has been since the fall of Howard(not that I am a great supporter of Rudd of course; but Rudd would have to just about be a hitler before I want Howard back). All I can say is that I hope the extreme right doesn't completely take over the the Libs, as much as I tend to dislike the Liberal Party, I still want their to be a viable opposition of some sort. You never know when the government might do something very stupid, yet not stupid enough to be abhorred by a majority.

There is no need to fret of his leaning towards the monarchy. If you want a peaceful transition to republic, these things take time. It may have been a lot closer had it not been for Howard regurgitating not only the Menzie-like eyebrows, but also reviving 1950's morals and values. ********. We were pretty close to implementing a White Australia Policy which am almost racist approach to whom we allow to live in our country.

Skills shortage, who couldnt see that coming. I digress. Tony may be the best leader the Libs could have. And the joy of him being in there, almost ensuringing the Labour party to govern forever, I may be wrong. I don't necessarily agree with argument he puts forth (I think) as we are meant to oppose when in opposition, I felt he could mean as 'blanket opposition' to all things. Which I find unwise, and stupid.

I agree with Tony, in the fact I believe KRudd only wants to push it through to get brownie points at Copenhagen. I don't need to understand all the workings over it, nor am I naive to swallow it as just an extra tax. Power/Water companies don't need an ETS to ******** hike up bills, they got excuses like drought/rising petrol prices/below par infrastructure to use.

But KRudd is all talk, and very little action. At least from where I am standing.

I do agree that money could be better spent on the transition rather than trading pollution. Its been done for years and it only seems there is more to trade, so it seems a little counterproductive. And its not like we are going to stop burning coal or using petrol until the last drop has been squeezed out.

I suppose it is up to Abbotts PR team to see if they can erase past transgressions from the leader of the opposition's past. At the very least, he appears to be a bee in Labours bonnet, and if his presence will stir some REAL action, rather than rhetoric, then bring him on. Turnbull was soft, surprising I thought from a Merchant Banker.

I'm quite sad that a neocon has taken back the power in the liberal party and has filled the front bench with Climate Skeptics. And turning to Rudd for answer just plain makes my skin crawl, the smug media slut that he is.

Yes, I agree, and a far more sympathetic ear for Howard to talk into than that of 'Rudd Lite'.

I was listening to some interview on Radio National, as triplej was a tad too 'youthy', and caught the end of what could have been an interesting conversation on the topic of climate. With some guy who knew something on the subject.

And he concluded, that whilst the argument could still dwell in the realms of a valid emperical evidence from either side, the best thing to do was, that when the ocean levels began to rise, start building levies. A far difficult thing to take away 'the Australian Dream tm'. The propaganda runs deep, and much industry depends on us wanting the newest thing, the trendiest thing. We all suffer from status anxiety, it feeds the economy, and nobody is going to screw with that. Any politician, sceptical or not.

Too much politically is at stake to make any change. Best to just add spin until the time to react is needed.
