~*~ EDITED ~*~ Sasuke turned down a road that looked like it ended in a cul-de-sac circle. In the middle of the circular part was a huge gaping hole in the tar that revealed the dirt underneath the street. The entire street itself had a jagged crack running down the middle. Sasuke drove to the right of the crack, and mostly up on the sidewalk as he approached the gaping hole. He stopped in front of the house directly behind the hole, parking entirely on the spot that used to be a beautiful grass lawn.
... That was until the war broke out and the bomb landed right in the middle of his cul-de-sac. No one in his neighborhood survived, except him, and that was because he had been at school. His mother didn't work, so she stayed at home. She went outside when she heard the chaos, all the moms on the block did. They knew this because that was where their burnt bodies were found. They were all completely unrecognizeable, but it was obvious since their cars were all still there. The cars were burnt to crisps as well, but still parked in the driveways. Just explosive reminders of the tragic last minutes of the women's lives.
 ...
Sasuke put the SUV in park and turned the car off before turning to Hunter and grabbing her arm before she could step out of the truck. "Look. I'll leave it up to you to talk to Hawk. You know I have your back, but I will keep my mouth shut and let you do the talking. Okay?"Hunter looked up into Sasuke's serious blue eyes and nodded. She let her arm fall from his hand, and took a deep breath. "Thanks," then she jumped from the truck. She took another deep breath as she shut the truck's door, and began walking for the front door. Before she could even get there, it was swung open and a figure came running out. He was slightly taller than Hunter, but no where near Sasuke's height. His features mirrored Hunter's exactly, just in masculine form, and his eyes were a deep bright blue. They seemed to move with a flowing motion, almost like waves in the ocean. His skin was not as pale as hers either, and he had a little more definition to his arm muscles, and other muscles that were not visible, than she did. He was also missing the tell tale Marks that Hunter wore branded on her left cheek. He had no cuts or scratches of any kind on his face. He was wearing some dark blue jeans that were held up by a thick black belt with silver studs all around it. He wore a black t-shirt that clung slightly to his body, but was loose enough to not show any muscle definition. He rushed over to Hunter as she got out of the truck. She was looking at the ground, so he grabbed her arm and lifted her head up roughly so she was looking at him. "Where have you been? Are you alright?" His eyes ran over his sister's face carefully, and as he noted no scratches or extra marks he relaxed his grip on her arm and chin. "I'm fine, Hawk." Hunter wriggled free from her brother's arms as soon as he relaxed. "We were just out at the bar, and things got a bit... heated." She began walking inside, ignoring her brother's looks."Heated?!" Hawk practically yelled, and turned ferociously to Sasuke. "What does she mean 'heated'?"Sasuke rolled his eyes, and gestured to Hunter. "Bad choice of words there, girly. Don't worry, Hawk, no one is dead or injured" He added at Hawk's expression.Hunter didn't stop and kept walking into the house with Hawk rushing up behind her. "Heated; afire, angry, aroused, enthusiastic, fervent, frenzied, fuming, furious, impassioned, intense, passionate, raging, stimulated, vehement..." She took a deep breath after reciting most of the pertinent synonyms of the word she had used to point out why she used it. "Take your pick, today was a crazy day." Hawk stepped up quickly to Hunter and grabbed her arm to spin her around. "What was crazy? What happened? Seriously tell me." His expression was more worried than angry as he again looked ever closer at Hunter, noticing the blush in her usually pale cheeks. "Where were you?"Sasuke entered the house behind Hawk and shuts the door behind him. "Hawk, man, let her catch her breath first. Everything is fine, you just need to give her a second to sit down." He put a firm hand on his friends arm that held Hunter.

Hunter smiled appreciatively at Sasuke as Hawk let her arm go and she slid effortlessly from his hold. She went into the kitchen and grabbed a water from the counter before walking back throught he hallway passed Sasuke and Hawk into the living room. They had no electricity, but they had clean furniture and the walls were painted shortly after the explosions stopped. She jumped and landed crookedly onto the blue plush couch on the far wall as she cracked open the water bottle and started taking huge gulps. She looked up at the two guys as they entered the room. Hawk sat down next to his sister on the couch, pushing her feet back, and Sasuke leaned up against the wall looking at the cracks in the ceiling. She took another sip and then twisted the cover back on the bottle before sitting up and looking at her twin. "So, did you notice that strange tower that popped up in town today?" When Hawk narrowed his eyes at her, she took that as a 'yes' and continued on before he coul,d say anything. "So, we were at the bar on Enavor Street, right, and this group walked in that were completely out of place. It was so obvious they were from the tower. Anyways, the guy walked over to us, completely flirting with me, and Blaire got jealous I guess... Oh, and Manic and Sane are back in town! Can you believe it?!" She began rambling off random tidbits of information and Hawk's look obviously showed he was interested, but irritated at her sporadic telling. "Yeah, and they know the people from the tower. Apparently, they were with them when the tower came to the Marked Lands."
Hawk narrowed his eyes at his sister as she spoke. "What do you mean 'they know the people in the tower?' Who are they?" He looked up at Sasuke and then back down at his sister as she took another gulp of water.
"Something about a 'spacial shift'... seriously it's like some messed up sci-fi s**t. There's a guy and two women, one woman is a mage or witch or something, and the other I guess is an elf! A real live elf! She has these wicked tall ears." She gestured with her hands above her head to about how tall Kalintria's ears were. "Oh and now Manic has these swords now that allow her to control her Awakened ability without Sane's alchemy! Isn't that crazy?" She knew she was rambling, but she wanted to get through it all as quickly as possible.
"So you were at that tower this whole time?" He scrunched his face and ran his hand through his hair. He glanced up at Sasuke, but he was just looking at the ceiling like he wasn't part of their conversation. So he looked back at Hunter. She was fiddling with her water bottle, and he noticed the blush still on her face. It was an odd expression for her to have. The corners of her mouth were turned slightly upwards as if she was smiling. He looked at the pair completely confused at this point. "What is going on?" He threw his arms up as if in defeat and stood up.
"We ended up going to the Bastion." Hunter stated it simply, and did not look up to see Hawk's expression. "We met the Eye, the Reader, and the Sojourn." She took a quiet deep breath as she awaited Hawk's response in the long silence that followed. From the top of her sight as she continued to stare at her water bottle, she could see Hawk's body starting to ripple with anger. She closed her eyes tightly wishing this moment never came.
"You did what?" he seethed the words between clenched teeth. His muscles tensed all over his body as he clenched and unclenched his fists. His mind ran back to the day he found out she had been Marked.
"Relax, Hawk. Nothing happened." Sasuke spoke up from his place on the wall. He had lifted himself off the wall and was standing there slightly in front of the doorway, staring at Hawk.
"And again..." he spun around to face Sasuke. "You let this happen. The last time you slipped up in my sister's keeping, she got those damn things." He pointed down to his sister, clearly referring to her Marks. He clenched his fist back down at his side as he glared at Sasuke, the veins in his neck pulsing faster. "What happened to her this time? Did she lose her virginity?" He yelled the words at his old friend, his tone filled with rage and accusation.
Hunter stood up abruptly. "Hey! That is none of your damn business, Hawk!" She blinked at her own outburst, but remained standing, even though her knees were yelling at her to collapse.
Hawk spun back to his sister, a confused expression on his face that was laced with anger still. He was completely taken aback by her reaction. "What?" He took in her features again, realizing for the first time what the blush and smile were all about. He blinked a few times at her in disbelief. His mouth fell slowly agape as he stared at his sister. Not even allowing them to finish their charade, Hawk began gathering to water in the air. He pinpointed the coldest molecules of air, and with how cold it always was at night in their place that wasn't hard. His fist quickly was covered by ice crystals that grew into shards, just as he brought his fist up and swung it with all his rage at Sasuke's face.
Sasuke saw Hawk's attack coming, and ducked under his arm, using his left arm to block. He didn't want to fight Hawk, especially since if he got too irrational his abilties could easily kill him. He was thankful to hear Hunter's voice yelling at Hawk.
"Hawk! Stop it! What the hell?!" She stepped forward, reaching up to grab the arm that Hawk didn't swing with the first time, but was obviously working up another strike with. "Hawk, please! Knock it off!" She brought her inner fire to her hands as she clasped them around Hawk's fist. Fire didn't erupt from her fingers, but instead they only glowed a bright red.
"Ow!" Hawk gasped as he wrenched his hand from Hunter's grip. He looked down at her palms as they were glowing red, and he took a step back, gathering more water from the air to put her out before she erupted in flames.
Hunter was relieved when Hawk immediately shifted his focus, and she pulled her heat back inwards, holding it mostly in her heart. She took a deep breath. "I'm fine. Now will you stop acting like a jackass." She looked down at Sasuke, who had taken a seat on the ground by the door. "You okay, Sasuke?"
"Yeah. I'm fine. Water boy doesn't have as much of an ice punch as he thinks." He looked up at her with his usual cocky grin as he wiped the blood from his lip.
Hawk let the water he was gathering go back into the air slowly as he looked his sister up and down again. "What the hell happened today? Stop dicking me around and just tell me already. I am tired and have been worried sick about you. Where is your cell phone?"
"Oh yeah." She reached into her back pocket as it suddenly donned on her that she had put it on silent when they went to the bar. She didn't feel like having Hawk check up on her and then him hear the commotion behind her. She glanced at the long list of missed calls, and released a breath as she saw they were all from Hawk. "Sorry I put it on silent and forgot to check it." She turned up the volume and then slid it reluctantly back into her pocket. "Will you relax now and I will just tell you outright the rest?" She gestured to the couch for him to sit back down.
Mechanically, as if his body didn't want to respond right, Hawk walked back over to the couch and sat down firmly. He kept his fists clenched in his lap as he awaited the truth... finally. He clenched his teeth and nodded his head stiffly in a gesture for her to continue.
Hunter pressed her lips together in a hard line and just stood where she was in the middle of the small room. "I kissed Simon... The Reader." She closed her eyes and took another breath. "A couple of times actually... and he taught me how to control my powers... he's going to set me up with a trainer so I can learn to control my abilities."
The room was really quiet for a long time as the vast array of information sunk in to the two men in the room.
Sasuke was the first to speak. "Well I for one, think it's all awesome." He stood up and picked Hunter up in a huge bear hug. "Congrats lil' sis." He whispered into her ear before setting her back down.
Hunter smiled back at Sasuke, and mouthed the words 'Thank you.' Then she looked back over to Hawk who was sitting stock still on the couch. If he was a statue, she was sure he'd break from being so stiff. She chewed her lip nervously as she awaited some kind of reaction from him.

Hawk looked up into Hunter's eyes with an angry glare. "So, now you've turned yourself into some kind of a slut." He scrunched his nose in an expression of disgust as he huffed out a breath of air. Before anyone could speak, he got up and walked to the door. He stopped in the archway, and looked back over his shoulder. "Don't come crawling back to me when you find out he's just using you." Then he turned and walked down the hallway without a second pause. They heard his door shut, but not slam, which was odd. Sasuke and Hunter were left back in the living room, gaping after him.
Hunter glared after her brother as he made a very uninteresting exit from the conversation. She could no longer keep her internal fire at a soft glow. Her fists erupted in flames as she held them clenched at her sides. She could no longer see where her brother had went as everything was covered in a red haze, and she could feel her heart beat pulse inside her eyes.
Sasuke noticed the flames immediately and he moved quickly, being more in his element, he opened the front door and then rushed back to Hunter. Since her fists were the only thing that were burning, he grabbed her by the shoulder, avoiding the heat of her flames and dragged her outside. He shoved her out of the doorway onto the front lawn. "Go ahead. Get it all out. Just avoid my truck, please, and the house, of course." He stood there behind her with his arms folded across his chest.
Hunter grinned as she turned to her left and let a shooting spire of fire escape her palms. She aimed and shot it straight at the abandoned house next to them, and letting out an angry yell. She continued to flame and shoot and yell until she collapsed onto her knees, the flames on her body completely dissipated, and she was breathing heavily. She looked up at the house as her flames were devouring its already broken frame. She stood up and reached her hands out, willing the flames to return to her, and as they did she let them curl into her body, adding to her inner heart's fire. She stood there breathing and feeling.
Sasuke had sat on the small cement step leading to the front door as Hunter took out her aggression on the next door neighbor's house. He never liked them before. It was a home to a really old hag that his parent's would have babysit him any time they went out. She hated it any time he ran around, or played, or even talked. So, he didn't mind if Hunter destroyed her house. He was amazed when Hunter began to bring the flames back to her and then they all but disappeared leaving behind an orange glow on her skin. He stared in shock as she just stood there completely in control, it was entirely different from the many close calls they had had in the past.

Simon sat on his bed shaking his head in disbelief...He promised to call Hunter, and took a few deep breaths to clear his head before pulling the scrap of paper from his pocket and dialing it into his phone....As it wrang all he could think about was what a mess they'd managed to get into...and that one of her friends was in grave danger. He rapidly tried to think of how to tell her, and knew he'd have to resort to the same type of talk he had with the troops when breaking bad news....he hated that tone.

Hunter sat there feeling the cool breeze on her skin, and she closed her eyes up to the sky. Suddenly she felt a slight vibration in her back pocket before her ringer sounded over the suddenly silent night. She reached into her back pocket as she turned to look at Sasuke, but was greeted by an empty stoop. She wrinkled her brow as she wondered where he went, but instead looked at her Caller ID, and answered her phone. "Hello?" Her tone was a bit up beat as she had a pretty good idea of who would be on the other end.

Hunter smiled when she heard Simon's voice. "I'm good." She responded as she tucked her hair behind her ear in her usual shy manner. "How is everything there?" She began walking aimlessly around the lawn.

Simon sighed....well she certainly wasn't making it easy to skirt the issue, "Well......We've got some issues here....I need to ask you a question. Its fairly important...about your friend, Sane I believe is her name now...did she ever go by Allysa Powwell?" His tone changed dramatically, his demeanor seemed to be altered on the other side of the phone as if he was a totally different person, not the free fun loving Simon or even the man who'd trained her...a different person altogether.

Hunter recognized the change in Simon's voice, and was a bit shocked at hearing her old friend's real name spoken aloud for the first time in a long time. Her gut reaction was to hang up on him or scream, but instead she held her tone steady. "Sane? Known as Allysa?" She made sure her voice held just enough confusion but not too much to where it was obvious she was hiding something. "She doesn't look like an Allysa to me." She let out a little chuckle, but it was perfectly carefree and not forced in the least. "No... not that I am aware of. Why are you asking me? What happened?"

"Seth....Seth happened. He called King Lydon, because he truly believes he's found the missing Alchemist....And he believes it to be Sane...I'm telling you this even though I'm not supposed to, because I'm going to help you keep her safe." He sighed again deeper and when he spoke he almost sounded desperate, "I know you don't know me enough to trust me fully yet, but I need to keep her safe....you don't know what her knowledge could do in the wrong hands...."

Hunter knew very well, which is why she lied to Simon. It killed her to do so, but she knew she had to. Sane had been her friend for a long time, and not even the boy she had her first kiss with was going to come before her. She didn't know how much he was saying was truth and lies... with her brother's last words resounding in her head, she took a deep breath, closing her eyes, trying desperately to listen to her gut which never steered her wrong. It was screaming at her that she could trust Simon, and as much as she wanted to kick herself, she said, "Yes, we do have to keep her safe, but why do you want to? Is there something in it for you?" She tried to keep the accusation out of her voice, but a hint of it trickled in and she bit her lip hoping he wouldn't notice or hate her for it.

"For me?" he stopped for a moment, his decorum slipping, he was starting to sound like Simon again, "No..." he chuckled, "Not for me...for people like you though....she can take away powers permanently or get them so caught up in the flow of the circles as to destroy a User...I just...I don't want Seth to get to her first....and the King doesn't want her turning on the Military which is why he's coming...He truly believes the Awakened are Gods blessing and if she proves to be able to take it away...to make people 'normal'" the quotation marks could almost be seen through the phone, "Would destroy his reign....and the world mother and I are trying so hard to establish and maintain..."

She got caught up on Simon's words of Sane's ability. Had he forgotten that she was just wishing to be normal earlier that night? She shook the thoughts from her head, trying to snap herself back to protecting Sane. She realized she had slipped in revealing anything to Simon, as he was clearly on the King's side. She pressed her lips into a hard line and took a deep breath, resolving to just flow with it. "What does the King want with her?" She kept her tone light, but it was unmistakably worried.

"King Lydon wants to make sure that she understands the power she is weilding. And like her father before her he will offer her the spot at his right hand...." he was unsure of what Hunter was feeling at this point and wondered if he should back off and attempt his own search, utilizing the mage to find the girl...so he could get back to enjoying Hunter's company.

Damn damn damn, resounded in her head. She had said too much, it was so obvious that Seth had been right. Now she was afraid for Sane, because Simon was very much so on the King's side. She pressed her lips together again, and resisted the urge to hang up on him and scream. She shook herself internally, and pretended to pep up. "Well, that's all a bit odd, but seriously you think a poor girl like Sane is hiding anything particularly special like that. I have known her my whole life, and we keep nothing from each other."
