Something like this could be used for exploitation just like any other religion.

Lenin Religion is one of the forms of spiritual oppression which everywhere weighs down heavily upon the masses of the people, over burdened by their perpetual work for others, by want and isolation. Impotence of the exploited classes in their struggle against the exploiters just as inevitably gives rise to the belief in a better life after death as impotence of the savage in his battle with nature gives rise to belief in gods, devils, miracles, and the like. Those who toil and live in want all their lives are taught by religion to be submissive and patient while here on earth, and to take comfort in the hope of a heavenly reward. But those who live by the labour of others are taught by religion to practise charity while on earth, thus offering them a very cheap way of justifying their entire existence as exploiters and selling them at a moderate price tickets to well-being in heaven. Religion is opium for the people. Religion is a sort of spiritual booze, in which the slaves of capital drown their human image, their demand for a life more or less worthy of man." Point is: God building is still in itself religion. Religion is the opium of the people, and when class antagonisms are abolished so will the need for religion.

I think religion weakens the minds of the people, and since it's forced on many of us soon after birth, it breeds humanity to be more manipulable.
Not to mention it seems to center mostly on disproving/putting-down other''s religions and beliefs, and puts out this weird air of "believing in something" is somehow better than "believing in that which can be seen/proven" which, to me, seems to set back rational thinking quite a large degree.

I'm inable to differentiate between *god-building and surrenderance of the minds rational capacity to see/feel/smell/taste/experience/in other words, find proof of in order to believe, before placing any faith in it.

You realise that, in the USA at least, the ruling classes are deeply religious.

I admit, I have absolutely no issue with private religion. And by that, I mean I don't care what God(s) someone worships, so long as they're not shoving it in my face and trying to convert me. This applies to Christians the same as it does to Atheists, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc.
I think those old Russian guys got it wrong. Religion isn't some evil that tricks people into accepting oppression. And it doesn't convince people that there's some magical and better afterlife. Some religions do that, sure, but not all, and it's not cool to just lump them all in together.
Hinduism and Buddhism, for example, both have a strong focus on the moment, and the life you live. And depending on how you look at each, they can both be considered either theistic or non-theistic. Judaism teaches that studying the world and the universe is good, and that it doesn't matter if other people aren't Jews (it's a non-conversion based religion).
It kinda feels like the old commies wrote up a critique of organized Christianity as they knew it, and applied it to "religion" as a whole.
