Are these holidays racist and oppressive?

Or are the just another holiday capitalists use to exploit heavy spending from the proleteriat of wealth they already hardly have, if have at all (me, this)

On thanksgiving, my family unit, Father, his girlfriend, baby sister, and I, we all got together with the girlfriend's mom and her boyfriend's family, ate tons of food in huge waste, played this canadian game called corhole, consumed massive amounts of alcohol, and then watched... Football, and a rather lousy game of Greenbay versus the Lions... I collapsed from intoxication and woke up on the ride home.

Black Friday, we hung up "Christmas" decorations, we as in my family unit, all over the house complete with lights, ornaments, and lawn decorations.

I really... don't get what these customs have to do with anything, and I have never really understood these Holidays or enjoyed them.

I was curious how everyone else's times through these holidays (either observed/not) was, so I could get a consensus on how harmful it may be as a whole, and what it's general motive is.

(I'm getting clothes, shaving cream, and a wallet with razors, practical = efficient, and just the way I like it)

Well, we don't have thanksgiving and all I know about it is that it involves turkey, so no comment on that.


Well I certainly think the observance of xmas illustrates that the liberal state is not as impartial to culture and 'conceptions of the good' as it would 'ideally' want to be. Then again, lots of things illustrate this (eg. benefits of marriage).
And yeah, I agree it's another way to get people to part with their money, but it's no more of a conspiracy than the usual ways. Actually, I was walking through the Crown Casino complex the other day and saw a gold cardboard cash-themed xmas tree and thought 'how symbolic'.
I'm honestly not sure if it's all that linked to religion here...

I personally don't observe xmas all that much beyond 'woohoo, holidays' and the exchanging of some gifts with my parents and significant other/s. For two years now I've ignored x-mas and gone to the movies... last year I saw Frost/Nixon and the year before I saw No Country For Old Men.

I hate how on Black Friday people runover and trample eachother to death. Shows how Capitalism tuns humans into animals.

Yeah, I was watching it on FOX News yesterday, lol, and was like "wow... I just saw like 500 people walking behind the News reporter in and out of that store, like, herding in."

I think he was trying to reason that humanity casn revert to beastly things in the absence of the law/on pointless holidays.

Figures, but thats not capitalism's doing, thats just the average human lacking self control or a strong sense of morals.

Stop playing the symantics game on Nokturn, people.

He was merely suggesting how a government, when left unchecked, can bring out the worst in it's people even in a small event such as shopping on an insignificant holiday weekend.

Does anybody remember when the PS3 came out?? My cousin in Chicago sent me a video of people waiting to get the PS3 and when they opened it was a mad dash and I saw at least 4 people stepped on repeatedly and my cousin said that 2 people in the chicagoland area were killed. Another testament to the materialistic needs of all humans. sad It deeply saddens me what human morals are coming to.
