Contest Idea

How would everyone feel about having a design contest? How many people would want to join in? What kinds of prizes would you like to see?

If we decide to do this, how will we go about it?

Just bouncing ideas around.

As like a fashion design thing? I'd love to!

Except I don't have photoshop for my mac b/c it's super expensive and the parentals wouldn't get it for me. So my designs would have to be hand drawn and scanned D:

But yeah, it'd be fun. Prizes should be gold if anything, it's just easier and the winners could get something the want instead of winning a prize they wouldn't necessarily want.

I was thinking gold, too.

Yeah, I design by hand, too. I have a few computer programs, but my drawings always look better when done traditionally.

Monsieur Beau approves of this message.

Think of this competition as a chance to showcase your collection, as in a virtual fashion show.

But one question remains unanswered: Will the collections be haute couture or prêt-à-porter? Perhaps we can host two separate contests.

[Themes]:

Spring (March, April, May);
Summer (June, July, August);
Fall (September, October, November);
Winter (December, January, February).

This should be a monthly competition, but it should not take more than 20 days so the Magazine staff members can create pages for the winners' collection. The deadline is the 20th of the month.

The contestants would have to create a cohesive collection for the season they are entering the competition. The requirement is six pieces.

[Prizes]:

1. Grand Prize: Will be featured in that month's issue of the magazine. Gold jackpot prize. 1 winner.
2. Runner-Up: 1 to 2 pieces from this contestant's collection will be featured on a separate page. Gold prize. 2 winners.

I love it. It would be great to do both prêt-à-porter and haute couture, but if we had to pick one, I would suggest the latter. There's a lot more opportunity to go crazy on that one.

However, I would like for it to be an open vote so that staff members can participate.

What's up with this magazine? When are we planning to get the ball rolling on that one -- where did you and CL leave off?

Haute couture sounds good to me.

I think an open vote will also work.

I've been trying to find a few members for the Guild; I invited 4 just now, some of whom I think will be a great addition to the publication.

Right now, we will need to find staff members for the magazine and start planning when the first issue should be (January?) and what this issue will contain (street fashion, this design competition, trend watch, anything else?).

We're up to 60 members! I've been trying to recruit people every day, but it seems like a lot must be declining. Le sigh.

Though I hope it's not an issue, if we are understaffed, I think we can still pull through. It will take a lot of work, but it most certainly can be done. The main concerns I have are a obtaining webhosting site and coding. There are some free places we can host on for now, but eventually, we will be wanting a domain of our own.

I would really like to see this happen by January. I mean, what a great New Year's resolution!

Cool. I may enter, although I would much prefer ready to wear over haute couture.

But, another problem:

If we end the contest halfway through January, then the first issue will have to be released at the end of January. I don't think this is sensible.

Thus, we should host the contest a month prior to the issue we intend to feature the winners' collections in.

Our contest will begin on December 1. When should we end it? What should be the theme?

Should we decide that the first issue be released January 1, we will need to finish putting together all the pages and set up a place to post the magazine, I think, by about Christmastime.

Damn. Just damn. Although I would like to try, I don't see having time to hire staff, make a website (I have 200k for whoever would like to make a kickass website for us before Christmas. And I do mean kickass), write articles, recruit contestants, etc. I would like to end the contest on the 20th, if possible. The theme -- I'm open to suggestions, but I was thinking we could have the contestants try to create a few samples for outfits that mimic flowers, or something slightly more complicated:

Basically, the contestants have to design outfits using elements that come from cars in the categories luxury, sport, compact, convertible, SUV and foriegn (basically, anything that is not prominent in the US). They are free to choose the car for each category, but should include an image with the design.

Either way, I would like to see the contestants create six different designs, which seems to be a manageable but large enough number.
