She also had the habit of bringing home stray animals, them being drawn to her by her powers. Then, one day her parents and her were involved in a terrible accident, and everything changed. Both of her parents were killed in that accident, and she was badly injured. In fact, it was somewhat a miracle that she survived; a piece of metal had lodged itself into her chest just a few inches from her heart, severely damaging one of her lungs in the process. She survived that, though, but as a result of the accident, her body was left weakened and scarred, and she has to take medication to keep it stable. Because of her weakened state, she found it difficult to care for all her animals, and in a last ditch effort to keep them all, she decided to find someone to help her take care of them. Then, not long after they turned seventeen, her brother was "killed", or so she believes. She doesn't like thinking about it too much, since it hurts so much. Her brother had given her, on their birthday before he "died", a katana that she named "Nildring"; it is her most prized possession, and she's an expert at using it.
After her brother's death, she found herself somehow sucked into the assassin business. From there, she studied many fighting techniques, and became a very accomplished assassin. Anything else is fine.Background~She lost her entire family in a raid, her parents and little brother. She had been out hunting with her father, and when they were coming back, they spotted a lot of smoke coming from the village, a lot more then just the cooking fires could produce. Telling her to hide, her father hurried to assist the defenders in protecting the village. She didn't come out of hiding until it was dark outside.
She found the entire village burned out and everyone in it either killed or taken away to be made into slaves. She found her father with an arrow in his back, her mother and brother not far from where he lay; he had been trying to protect them, and they had ended up being killed as well. She is still haunted by all that she saw that night, and has nightmares to this day, fearing that the raiders would come back for her.
The raiders had raided everything in sight, but she knew a few hiding places that had many treasures in them that the raiders hadn't touched. With these, she was able to get her own house and to set up her own lab to conduct experiments, having plenty left over. There, she creates defenses and weapons for around her house, which she also sells to those who want to buy them. This way, she maintains a steady income, combined with what is left of the treasures from her village. she, of course, keeps a few inventions secret, to herself.
She has tried to locate the elves from her village who had been taken in the raid with no luck; a good many of them died in the years following the raid, and the others just couldn't be found. She still hopes to find them all someday. As such, the unicorn woman has had to raise her daughter alone. Unicorns are highly valued, both for their horns (in their horse form) and for their blood (either form), which has a slight silvery tint to it. Because of this, unicorns hide among the human population in their human forms, being careful not to get caught, but it doesn't always succeed. Unicorns do get caught, and often are killed or enslaved. Wanting to protect her daughter but not able to do it alone, Thaliia turned to her only option: buy a slave that is capable of protecting them from hunters and slavers.
