What do you guys think makes up an artistic piece of fashion? What constitutes a good outfit? How much -- or how little -- detail do you think should contribute to a clothing item?

A good outfit has a color scheme, but not necessarily a legit theme.

It also has coordination of pieces that is visually pleasing and balance.

Every detail of an outfit contributes to it and should build up its character.

Basically, you can apply all of the elements and principles of art to an outfit.

When I think of artistic fashion, I think of Avant Garde.
Never before been done, new, exciting. More or less unwearable. blaugh

Pretty much this. Though it's technically been done before, just new spins. But whatever, it's still much more innovative.

But I guess regular, wearable outfits could be seen as an artform. I dunno.

Shapes. Forms. Materials. I'm more fascinated by sculptural shapes than anything else.

I think one of my favorite "sculptural shapes" is the YSL wedding gown that looks similar to a tampon: observe.
