I thought of this last night, and I've been too busy troubleshooting my sisters laptop to post it. In doing so I had some time to think of a way they can bring everything back temporarily, until the end of the year. This is just a rough idea, I haven't actually taken the time to plan it all out. I considered making it a petition to get them back until the end of the year, but I'm not sure if I want to do it or not, or if I have the time available to set a petition thread up - Someone else feel free if you want to. So with that said... It could go something like this. Opinions on the following please?
In response to last weeks announcement for them removing the items, they've taken a lot of heat from it. Protests everywhere, people gathering together to get the ban overturned... What if, say... They figured out this way to make us a little happier? And later this evening, they'd put up a second announcement saying something similar to this:
"So you've given up smoking for a weekend, good job! This is just one step towards quitting for good. To reward you... We'll add the items back into the stores until the end of the year. The change will fully go into effect on New Years Eve, and it will be Gaia's New Years Resolution to clean up the site. We will be a non-smoking website afterward - This will give you time to prepare, and be ready for the changes accordingly."
After New Years, those items will be removed from the shop permanently. In turn, giving those who are upset about it (Which would be us), time to adjust to it. And those who never bought the items, the time to quest or purchase them. I still wouldn't agree with it if this became their way of doing it, but it could make it easier on everyone. It would make some people happy for them to have reversed it with a proper enough warning given, and this would probably do the trick with that.
Like I said, it was just a thought. I don't know if they'll do it, or if it'll hold up with all of you. I just wanted to get your opinion on it.

I think it will only add fuel to the fire if Gaia did something like that.

Hm, I think it's a good idea, but I personally wouldn't be satisfied with that as a solution. I don't think it would be fair to new users who come along and join. Also, I'm wondering if there would be people who feel elite for having a cig, long drag, etc., while other users don't have them. As if it's a status symbol or something along those lines.
My thought is that they either have them or don't. Obviously, I would infinitely prefer if they did. ;_;

I can see where your idea comes in, but ultimatly that puts them in the driver's seat still, which would agrevate me to no end... Sorry, but ultimatly I think your idea wouldn't go down.
