The headmistress had ended her long climb on the highest floor of the college to where her office and quarters awaited her. Entering her office she was greeted by a long oak desk, a real fine antique that was about as old as the college itself. Behind it was a massive window taking up half of the wall and lit up the room with sunlight. The curtains drawn back and the grand chair pushed up against the old desk.

"Suitable." Closing the door behind her the cold comment falling over the sun baked room like a cold breeze. "At least that apprentice of mine kept the building out of her little revolt." The headmistress hung her coat on the antique coat hanger and went over to her desk. With a slowed step and a thud of her cane she sat at her throne turning the chair to look out the window.

"So it begins."

Looking down on the campus from the highest room the headmistress scanned the circular formation of the old buildings. One for each department, her own the both the administration building and faculty dorms. Across with way was the student dormitory and what sat among the buildings was six arced courtyard. A maze of free standing trees a small pond and waterfall creating a calm and serene environment. The Bridge sitting across the small stream leading from the small waterfall to the pond has always been a sort of a meeting place for both friends and young lovers.

"Everything should be in order." The headmistress turned to her desk to the pile of student applications. "Large enrollment. We'll see how this turn out."

Twi was reading an old Norse Epic as he walked down the hall and out to the Directory of the building. When he saw the giant pillar with it's map pasted to it, he finished the paragraph he was on nd put his book away.

hmm... i wonder if i have time... he thought as he scanned the map. he headed off down the hall at a brisk pace, looking for his classroom.

Karo arrived on campus and walked through the front door. He started walking down the hallway, starring at his schedule to try to figure out where he was suppose to go. Karo, not paying attention to what was in front of him, bumped into a gentlemen who had a book in his hand. The book dropped to the floor, and Karo immediately begin gathering the book off the floor.

"I am so sorry, I was not paying attention to were I was going" He noticed the title of the book Norse Epic. He handed back to the Dark Elf before him.

"Good book choice, The Norse Epic, full of history and battles, can't get much better then that."

Val froze, his eyes wide, as if frightened, scanning the man who bumped into him. his lips were tightly persed, and he seemed tense. his jaw se,and his face seemed to go from a slightly ashey hue to a more proper dark grey.

"um... thank you." he said, then blinked twice softly. "i'm... i'm Valthier." he said. he seemed nervous for whatever reason. Val himself put it down to having spent so much time away from people that he just didn't know anymore how to deal with one sneaking up on him. i'm just paranoid... he thought.

he took the book back carefully, and tucked it under his arm, then shook the man's hand with his other. "your name is?" he asked expectantly.

"The name is Karo" Karo shook Val's hand firmly.

"I just arrived here today, again I'm sorry for bumping into you, sometimes I get so caught up in my own thoughts that I forget about the rest of the world." Karo took out his schedule again to look at it.

"I don't suppose you could tell me were my first class is?" Karo said as he handed Val his schedule.

he looked at it, and read the entire class schedual. the first class on the transcript made his eyes go wide and he blinked severel times.

"...you're in my class. follow me, we should make it on time if we hurry." he handed Karo back his schedual and continued on his way to class.

they took only one turn, after a long hall, passing two other openings. they went down another long hall about halfway, and entered the classroom. Val looked around to see if they were late or not.

"sit down, you are extremely lucky both of you. you're late, but barely." the teacher said. "i just took roll, so tell us your names.

when Val and Karo introduced themselves, they took their seats, and listened to the introduction lecture. of course, none of the textbooksthey were told to buy were going to be used, save for one, but it was pretty useless anyway. luckily, Mrs. Sange had provided what textbooks would be needed, and had a borrowing system established, and enough books to go around. Valthier breathed relief at that.

they class was given basic homework, and told that tommorrow they would have a short test, with teh intention of weeding out those who'd need private tutoring.

Karo sat in his desk as the class was coming to an end, he had finished his class work early, so he pulled out his homework to work on it, the last 5 minutes of class.

He turned to Val, "Thanks Valthier, I hate to my late my first day off class" Karo looked at his schedule.

"It seems that I don't have another class until another hour, care to show me around campus a little bit?"

Val had two and a half hours of free time himself, that he was going to use to study, but he figured it couldn't hurt to make friends. especialy ones who had an interest in his studies.

"sure thing Karo, i could use a walk anyway. i'm going to need to familiarize myself with this place." he walked with the Vampire down the hall, and continuin straight instead of making their turn onto the hallway that they were on.

"let's see where this leads..." they passed a group of elves headed to their classes on this hall, and past a few whispering elf girls, before they made it to a wall with windows, stretching out to either side. outside, the woods could be seen, and in the distance to the left, what looked to be a sports field of some kind.

Val turned left, until he saw a tower. if he remembered correctly, it lead to the Library. unless he was pituring it backwards or inversed, n which case it were ither the Sudy or the Gameroom, respectively.

he paused. "........ wanna go up here?" he asked. "should have a good view, and i bet it's private." he smirked, one of his vampire fangs flashing. he hadn't thought to hide it, he was too caught up in wondering which room the tower lead to, and what the view would look like.

Karo felt awkward upon hearing this kind of question. He didn't want Val to get the wrong vibe off of him. He thought for a minute or too.

"Why don't we see if those cute Dark Elf girls in the hallway that we passed would like to join us? They might know more about the towers and it's different rooms and views."
Karo looked back to the giggling girls.

"Plus, I think there staring at us, they have been the whole time." He signaled the direction of the girls to Val with a roll of his eyes. Karo gave Val a smile.

"So, which one are you going to talk to?"

"Are we enjoying ourselves standing around when we should be studying." A cold remark fell from the upper steps of the tower in question. Headmistress Smith had heard the idle whispers of the two students as she came down the faculty tower. The sharp strike of her cane as it hit the stone steps making her descent omunious and cold

Her glasses balanced at the end of her nose making her gaze even longer as she stared at the boys awaiting for a reply.

"Val was just telling me what the homework was for last class, I forgot to write it down" Karo looked back at Val.

"So, that was page 153, problems 1-50; right?"
Karo started writing in his notebook.

The headmistress wasn't that easily fooled or in any matter amused. She continued her decent until face to face with the students. "Well then you don't have any more reason to be standing around now do you. Now that you have the assignment." Her tone seemed to bring a chill the hallway and the girls moved on from their gawking. It could be from the cold or the urge wanting to get out of the headmistress's way.

The Headmistress not seeing to notice ended her conversation. "You better be off then." With that the cold elf left in the same direction as the girls.

with a gulp, and wide eyes, Val turne dto Karo and smiled. "Heh... chilling." he remarked, chuckling. "we should probably go... i'll meet you in the commons, and we can go over a map.

he walked slowly, taking as direct a route as possible. "and for the record, i'd have gone with the spectacled girl. he grinned.

"She's all yours, I'll take the other two" Karo chuckled softly. Karo returned to the common room to put away his books from the last class. He noticed that one of the girls had slipped there number in one of his text books. It was the girl Val had his eyes on. Karo smirked. "Maybe I should give him the number" he thought. Karo pocketed the number, and got his books ready for the next class.
