The Taiken Sousei are incredibly reliant on proper knowledge of the Chakra Pathway System, so important that this knowledge actually takes precedence over the application and development of Taijutsu itself. Those who truly wish to master the art must therefore spend a great deal of time examining all aspects of combat whether or not their talent falls within these fields of study; proper knowledge of nin and genjutsu come with an increased control over one's chakra and better prepares a Shokaku to combat foes who would use these skills against them, as well as further broadens the basic knowledge learned in the academy.
A Shokaku must understand the tenketsu, the 361 individual nodes that control the flow of chakra within the body. By properly controlling and concentrating the flow in relation to each of these nodes a shinobi is able to perform feats such as standing upon water, walking on vertical surfaces, or leaping high into the air. However, hidden within Taiken lay the seeds to unlock the greater nature of the tenketsu.

The Hachimon Tonko; The Eight Celestial Gates Hidden within the body, far beyond the notice of most shinobi, sit the Eight Celestial Gates. The gates themselves are junctions within the chakra pathway system, acting as a further inhibitor to the flow of chakra through the tenketsu. Whereas the tenketsu regulate what's considered a constant "balanced level" of chakra these eight empirical nodes seal the true hidden strengths of the body, reducing strain and allowing a shinobi to enjoy a long, healthy life. By bending the "rules", so to speak, a shinobi can potentially gain incredible power in the short term... but at a dreadful cost.
The natural energy a human body produces is staggering. If all of that potential energy were to be released at once it would give even the average person incredible power, unfortunately causing them to burn themselves away into nothing almost immediately in the process. Not even the most powerful jutsu imaginable come close to the full release of one's personal energy, but if mastered wisely it can be unleashed in lesser amounts.
Using the gates is not an "I win" button. Used in an unwise situation against a skilled opponent, opening even just the first gate can spell disaster. Thus the gates should be used as a last resort when no other options are available. Remember, these are forbidden for a reason. The Individual Gates0: Obviously the untouched, unreleased form. The human body is operating as normal in its unreleased state, the average person able to utilize 20% of their true potential muscle strength without fear of causing permanent personal injury to themselves.
1: Kaimon; The initial Gate of the Eight Celestial Gates, located in the right side of the brain. The Gate of Opening is released, absolving the natural limiters in the brain that restrict muscle strength. The user is capable of using one hundred percent of their natural muscular power. [C-Rank]
2: Kyuumon; The strain of the Kaimon often causes injury to the user, which can be healed through the Kyuumon, the second Gate, located in the left side of the brain. The heart is forced to pump blood at a very heightened rate, stimulating the production of red blood cells. This induces super-fast healing and a marked increase in stamina, thus making the user feel rested and refreshed. [B-Rank]
3: Seimon; Located on the spinal cord. During the third Gate, The Gate of Life, the heart's pumping is revved even more. The rapidly circulating blood bulges the user's veins and causes their skin to flush red. Just as how during a workout one's muscles become larger and stronger to meet the demand of stress, the muscles swell and strain to the brink of their ability, upping the user's strength and speed even further beyond the normal limits of the human body.[B-Rank]
4: Shoumon; Located on the spinal cord. The fourth gate is named ironically The Gate of Pain, as the user's brain begins to block the functions which signal pain and stress, and produces adrenaline sending the user into a semi-high. The user recklessly ignores the limits of their strength, the force of their will overriding the natural tendency to unconsciously restrict one's self to reduce strain and suffering. Their strength and speed increases even further, and the user's stamina takes a sharp increase once again. However, the muscles will definitely snap and tear from the overexertion at this point. [B-Rank]
5: Tomon; Located on the spinal cord. The nerve receptors in the body become ultra-sensitive, causing the user to break the natural limits of their reaction and movement with The Gate of Limit. The super-efficient response creates more pragmatic movement, allowing the user to use their muscles effectively and increase their speed and strength to extreme levels. Few can usually even follow the user's movement, much less react to it. However, the user's muscles are torn to shreds by the unreasonable demands put on the body, and the high sensitivity reverses the effect of the Shoumon, making the user extremely responsive to pain. Thus, it is not likely to withstand use of this gate for very long. [A-Rank]
6: Keimon; Located on the spinal cord. Once the utter limits of the ninja's physical ability have been scavenged, the Celestial Gates dip into the meta-physical with The Gate of View. The Keimon releases the user's chakra pathways to their full extent, leading an uninhibited flow of chakra. This causes a sharp increase in the user's sensory ability from the abundant chakra, hence the name, as well as an increase in the strength of chakra-based techniques. The excessive amount of chakra ramps up the ninja's healing processes, such that the user is capable of continuing fighting after using the ravaging Tomon. Extended use of the Keimon will result in the user's death, as they will quickly run out of chakra. [A-Rank]
7: Kyoumon; The Gate of Wonder, located at the base of the spinal cord. The user's strength and speed increases to an absolute maximum as their very life-force is ground up in the production of more chakra. The user is almost a puppet in this state, nearly moved by the power of their chakra rather than physical means. They experience a euphoric high which blocks out all pain and suffering, but can lead the user to misjudge the damage incurred by the Kyoumon. They also enjoy increased mental processing which allows the user to think at high speeds during such intense movement. Even a very short amount of time spent under the effects of Kyoumon can shave years off of the user's life. [A-Rank]
8: Shimon; The final gate, The Gate of Death, located in the heart. Accessing a power beyond the scope of human balance, the user unleashes the full power of Hachimon Tonko no Jin, the Eight Celestial Gates Released Formation. The power afforded by Shimon is beyond that of any other gate, causing the user's very life-force to merge with their chakra, drawing in increasing amounts of energy from even the surrounding air. Despite its incredibly short duration, to the user each second passes as ages as they tick closer to their ultimate end. Body and soul are completely consumed in this process, the price one must pay for power beyond that of even a Kage.[S-Rank]
