Rules
1. Hold to the Gaia ToS and the rules of the shop, of course. 2. If you aren't staff, don't post in this Journal without Apathetic's permission. 3. Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Hitsuzen Name: Hitsuzen Name Meaning: Literally, "Destiny" or "Fate." Stage: Peri Sex: Male
Guardian: Riordan Albright
Bio: A long time ago, Hitsuzen was... someone else. His memories, although stronger now then they once were, remain indistinct, and Hitsuzen finds it maddening to know just so much about who he used to be. What he remembers is this:
Straddling the border between two warring regions, he and his people - his clan, he supposes - lived, making their way through skill and tradition, and the willingness to do whatever one had to. He was employed by great men and powerful women, to find out the secrets of their rivals or to save the ones they cared for but could not, by law of rank, acknowledge. Hitsuzen remembers shaking his head and laughing at their muddled actions, and being glad that his path was so clearly marked.
Hitsuzen left on a mission, in autumn he believes, to do something very important. But he doesn't remember what that "something important" was, or if he ever achieved it. Hitsuzen only remembers that he died.
He sees a woman kill him, and in the moment before all went dark, Hitsuzen remembers feeling betrayed.
Then there is nothing, nothing until the time in which he felt himself return to the physical world, his new "Guardian" greeting him with a bright grin.
Personality: Hitsuzen is polite, and smiles often, and is always very gracious. He understands that he could be otherwise, but even after all this time he still doesn't think of it as "safe" to do so-- It's easier, for him, to protect himself by keeping others away with kindness, and it's rare for him to speak with complete honesty to any besides Riordan. However, he's happy to listen to others and offer advice, if they seem to want it; Hitsuzen always feels better when he's being useful in some way.
Although he possesses a soft heart to those who seem helpless or in over their head, Hitsuzen is a proud and somewhat haughty individual, though he takes care to keep that side of him from showing (too much). Self-confident and certain of his abilities, if not of his self, Hitsuzen doesn't really believe in carrying others if they can't carry themselves, and can be impatient or (more likely) simply leave others behind if they can't keep up. Hitsuzen thinks this has something to do with his past life, as he very clearly remembers strenuous training during what he assumes was his childhood.

Riordan ^ Click for full image! ^ Name: Riordan Allbright (a.k.a. Riordan d'Nonchalance) Age: 21 Species: Human Sex: Male
Haltia: Hitsuzen
Bio: Riordan grew up like any other child of wealth and heritage: Since he was very young, his family (and associates) stressed the importance of being an intelligence, accomplished, and regal young man, all with an eye towards one day taking over his family's mercantile heritage. Working out of the highly successful shipping port of Cantaera, Riordan spent most of his time being well-dressed, well-bred, and incredibly bored.
This can largely be blamed on his elder brother, Proteus d'Nonchalance, who was - despite being obligated as elder brother to pick on Riordan - also very lenient despite that. Specifically, while Riordan should have been reading "classic" literature, Proteus smuggled in the adventure books and fairy tales that Riordan loved, and pretended not to notice when Riordan read them instead of his math texts. As a result, Proteus was the only one not surprised when Riordan ran away from home at age 14.
While the homestead was in an uproar, Riordan was hitchiking as far away from Cantaera as he could get, eager to experience Life Outside the Gates. Although it wasn't always pleasant, Riordan found himself enjoying even the most unfortunate circumstances, and he developed into a man with a love for life and an almost infectious exuberance.
Years later Riordan is a recognized expert on far-off lands and unusual sights, but mostly of strange and bizarre creatures and folklore; when he encountered the Black&White Manor is was purely by accident, as he was investigating the stories he'd traced to the town of Wünschenhimmel. He didn't quite uncover the truth, but he did recieve the strange doll that became Hitsuzen, which is a process that Riordan remains quite fascinated by. Although they continue to travel, Riordan and Hitsuzen stop by in Wünschenhimmel on a fairly regular basis, as Hitsuzen searches for his past and Riordan attempts to get a straight answer out of the enigmatic Alain.
Personality: Cheerful, enthusiastic, and somewhat impetuous, Riordan enjoys the simple things in life: A good book, pen and ink, having interesting things to write about. His particular talents lie in storytelling and illustration - he's done all the diagrams in his volumes by hand - but his true love is the exploration of the unknown: If it's got an ominous ring to it or has never been seen by mortal eyes, Riordan is all too happy to volunteer. This stems from a single fact: Riordan has accepted that he won't be able to outrun his parents forever, so he should get in as much as he can before they drag him back to be a proper heir.
Riordan's idea of fun doesn't match up with everyone else's, of course; he's perfectly happy sifting through dusty newspapers or dimly-tombs, and while he's also fine in 'civilization,' his outlook is different enough that it's noticeable almost at once. Prone to monomania, Riordan can and has focused on one thing to the exclusion of all others, which happens whenever he gets caught up in some new 'find.' Hitsuzen is slowly changing this - Riordan, for example, is starting to realize that maybe it's not always a good thing - but for now the progress is slow. Riordan's not unfriendly, however, and sees conversation with others (particularly those he's never met before) to be a worthy choice of action.

Where They Live
While on the road, Riordan and Hitsuzen travel light... And I mean light-light at that. Besides a few changes of clothes, blank books, and other essentials, Riordan carries little beyond that, and Hitsuzen has the advantage of not even needing to eat either.
Technically, he doesn't need the spare changes in clothes, being yet a doll, but it's something he refuses to negotiate. Hence, Hitsuzen carries a scaled-down version of Riordan's knapsack, specially commissioned for his height and size, which is filled with the smaller implements such as pens and inkwells.
The closest they come to a regular place of residence is the Ever-Holding Tent, a nifty little item that a doubtful Riordan once traded off a fellow wanderer. (And they said he'd be swindled!) Typically a small parcel about the size of a folded handkerchief and several times as thick, when tossed down the Tent springs to full dimensions; the interior is large enough for a half-dozen people and their luggage, although usually most of the space remains unoccupied.
When staying in cities and towns, Riordan registers at the most affordable place there is; at the moment, they're camped out at a small, cheap motel called the Indie Inn, located on the northern edge of Wünschenhimmel.

Pets
The Essien is a strange creature indeed; most of the time it barely seems a creature, instead being some kind of puff of wind made sentient. Several years ago, Riordan was hiking in the frozen mountains up north with a trade caravan, which was ostensibly delivering medicines and other supplies to high-up villages; of course, it was really smuggling artifacts to the lower lands during the return trip, so Riordan went along to bust them. It succeeded... sort of... but Riordan wound up fleeing into the snowstorm, saved from hypothermia and frostbite by the little cloud-thing you see above. Local lore recalls the Essien as a fragment of nature come to life; but, with its colonies depleted, the last Essien remains with Riordan, whom it seems to have adopted. Essien spends most of its time floating just above Riordan's left shoulder, and tends to leave damp marks against whatever it brushes up against (since it is, after all, mostly cold water).

Gifts + Possessions

One of two lanterns that Riordan carries with him when they're on the road. Useful for seeing in dark places, amidst other things, they're supposed to be enchanted so that they never go out. They've also proven to be very hardy, at that...

A "teru teru bozu," a tiny charm from a far-off land. Hitsuzen makes them in his spare time; it seems to be one of the few things he remembers clearly. This one hangs off his knapsack, because rain is the enemy of every traveler.

Riordan's personal tea-set, although pictured is Hitsuzen's cup. The other cup was smashed during a recent hurried escape, and Riordan's looking to replace it soon.

Also known as "the good stuff," this is a bottle of willow-fruit wine. Didn't know willow tree grew fruit? Neither did Hitsuzen and Riordan, until recently. This is the last of their stock, but they pull it out for visitors.

Riordan has a sweet tooth, so it's lucky that their temporary lodgings are down the block from a bakery! This particular box is cookies is bought fresh every morning-- If you've stopped by, help yourself to one or two!

Past Stages
Of course, Hitsuzen went through all the other stages, as every Haltia does... but he and Riordan have moved around a lot sicne then, so they don't have any actual proof of it!
Maybe one day they'll figure out where they left it, but until then, this space is likely to be empty for a while.
