Mmmm, this was nice. Aphid did enjoy swimming, especially on a hot day. There was nothing to cool you off and refresh you like a nice swim. Whilst the river current was often too fast for a small Mistling like Aphid, she'd found a small little bay, away from the main river but on lower ground, so the water from the river filtered down there. It was much calmer, and a much nicer place to bath. She was wrong when she'd said swimming - if you wanted to swim, the main river was best. But Aphid just wanted to rest in the water to cool herself down. As much as she hated to admit it, she was pretty small. Swimming in the main river was never an option for Aphid, she'd get washed away so easily. She was tiny, as far as Mistling went - half the size of a normal Mistling, perhaps even a little smaller. Anyone telling her so, however, would be quick to get a fierce claw in their face. Aphid didn't like being reminded of her size. Sighing contentedly, she relaxed into the water, purring softly. He however, was the size of a normal male Mistling, plus the added length of his tail. The said appendage flicked behind him as he made his way towards the little bay so he could soak. Every Mistling loved the water on days like today. Not a cloud in the sky, the sun beating down. If one wasn't careful, they could die in such heat! Sky eyes looked around as he heard faint sounds of splashing. Did someone find his swimming place?
Looking to the little cricket, Royal Hawk frowned as Crii chirped to confirm. "So there is someone there..." He said to Crii, getting another chirp. He motioned the cricket to continue on until the other came into his view. It was... a child? Why was there a child unattended in a watering place?
"L-little girl! You're going to get hurt! Come out of there and we'll find your parents!"

Hmm? Aphid glanced around, blinking her hazel eyes several times as she watched the male from her bathing place, eyebrows furrowing downwards in confusion. Little girl? She glanced around, figuring she must have missed a child wandering past. But there wasn't one. He couldn't...he couldn't be referring to her!? Instantly snarling, flashing small yet pointed teeth, Aphid snapped back rather fiercely. "Shut up you mongoose! I can look after myself!" And eew, there was a cricket too. Aphid wasn't fond of crickets. She loved the Lightflies, and the Fuzzyworms were sweet. But all the Chirpers had been ridiculously rude to her, and it had all only ended in a fight.
The teeth did nothing to scare hi, but her attitude and the insult did. He narrowed his sky blue eyes and wrinkled his nose at her. Then Roy saw her looking at Crii and he go in front of his Chirper protectively. He and Crii had been together since he was born. Tail flicking irritably, Roy moved over closer to her and snorted. So she wasn't a baby? That was a laugh. She was so small!
"Well, excuse me for thinking you're a child! I didn't know any better!" Who was she to call him a mongoose? It made his hackles rise and his fur bristle. Sitting down at the edge of the bathing place, Roy glared hard, arms folding across his little chest, ears flicking. For a Mistling, she was pretty, but she had the mouth of a dung beetle on her. "Don't call names when someone is worried about you! Just tell me you're not a baby and I would have apologized." Only now he really wasn't going to.

Pff, she was supposed to care that she'd insulted him? So what if she was...what was it, that Lightfly had called her? Feisty, that was it. Just because she was feisty didn't mean he had to get all insulted and angry. Pff, moron. He seemed to stop her watching the cricket, and moved in front of it, causing her to snort and roll her eyes. What did he think she was going to do, shoot some lasers out of her eyes? Ah, if only. That'd be awesome! Her own hackles rose as he began shouting back, Aphid taking to hissing instead of snarling this time. Making it quite clear she'd already decided that she didn't like this stupid boy. He began approaching her and she only hissed more, her back arching a little as she flexed a paw outwards, a warning that she'd swat him if he came any closer. Aphid preferred all fours when standing - stabler, and it wasn't like she got much taller when she stood on two anyway. "I don't want your stupid apology! I can look after myself, I don't need some stupid mongoose worrying about me!"
"Good, I said I wasn't going to apologize anyway, shorty!" He had hissed right back at her through all of hers, spatting and snarling, his teeth flashing just as she did. He was tired of this already. Sure, call him lazy, but he didn't every have much energy for arguing. So, he took to look back at Crii to see what she was up too. "Crii, don't wander too far, OK?" His voice took a gentle tone, forever fond of his Chirper companion. On days like today, Crii made him smile with her antics. She was actually a funny little Chirper.
Looking back to the short one, he sighed and shook his head. "Look. I think we got off on the wrong paw, right? Let's try to start over? I'm Royal Hawk. The Chirper over there? Her name is Crii. She's shy and usually keeps to herself if I'm talking to another Mistling." He still didn't like the way he stared at his Chirper. If worse came to worse, he'd die for that cricket. It was like his little sister.

Oh no he didn't! Did he just call her shorty? Snarling softly, she dived forwards, hoping to barrel into the stranger and knock him over. Her small claws scratched at his belly, hoping not to hurt him too much, but definitely wanting to make sure he got the message. No-one called her short, or small! She wasn't! She definitely wasn't! She had a vague idea that his Chirper was nearby, but she didn't care, instead yelping loudly as she suddenly realized that there was a hill the other side of the bathing area...and they were now rolling down it.
Claws dug into his belly and he hissed and wiggled. Now he was toppling down the hill and hitting his head on the ground with a hard 'oof!' This female clearly didn't like him. Roy forgot about Crii as his head swam when he landed on his back with her on him. His head was killing him now, there were pinpricks of blood arising on his stomach, from where she'd punctured skin, but not too deep. He wasn't bleeding out, but he could feel the thick liquid matting both of their fur. Closing his eyes, he sighed deeply, not even caring that she was on him.
"......Ow..."

Her claws of anger had turned instead to tight grips, claws digging slightly into his skin so as to attach her to his belly, Aphid holding on for dear life as they went rolling down the hill. When they finally landed she was still attached tightly to him, shuddering on his chest as she slowly drew her small claws back, not quite moving from off of him yet. Her head was swimming, and her pretty coat was matted with a little of his blood. Ugh, he was so...so stupid! "Look what you did," she mumbled, although the angry effect she'd been hoping for didn't quite get across, the sound more like a whine a she stumbled off of him, standing still suddenly in an attempt to solve the dizziness problems she was having.
Of course she made this his fault. Of course! Why expect anything less. As she finally got off of him, he slowly turned over onto all fours and blinked his eyes a few times before getting onto his back feet to examine his stomach. He was dizzy, just as she was, swaying as he examined the wounds. They weren't deep, thank whatever Gods were out there. But they did hurt. Whatever.
He'd been surprised when she'd clung so tightly and shuddered against her. Turning slowly, Roy looked to Aphid with worried eyes and he moved to her, despite his unsteadiness and looked her over. He didn't care if he got bit or clawed again. He knew something of herbs that would help him, and her, if she was hurt. Luckily, it looked like she came out clean. "Yep. It's my fault you wanted to push me and didn't let go and we both rolled down the hill. Of course it is. Silly me."

She blinked her eyes furiously, angry at her body for being so dizzy. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him rise, onto his back two legs, towering over her as he approached. He stopped, apparently looking over her, and she gave a small hiss to make sure he realized that if she wasn't so dizzy, she'd be shooting off numerous insults. If only it would go away! Aphid always seemed to have problems with dizziness - if she stood up too quickly, if she rolled around, if she did a somersault in the water. She'd been told it was because she was small, but of course she'd fiercely denied that. "It was!" she insisted with a snarl, finally regaining her balance as she looked up at him, eyes wide and fiery as she flashed her teeth yet again. "What're you looking at, anyway! Go away!"
"I was seeing if you were bleeding or something," he murmured softly, brows furrowing carefully as he crossed his arms over his chest again, watching her. She was a big ball of fierceness, but she did need to tone it down quite a bit. Sighing softly, Roy shook his had again and rolled his eyes. Could she even walk right, at the moment?
"Look, ....." He didn't get her name, so he paused a minute, "....Just look. I'm trying to help. Why are you making this so difficult?"

Aphid snorted - she didn't really have a reply to that. It was...nice of him. But she wasn't about to thank him or anything, was she? For all she knew he could've been lying and like, perving on her or something. She growled softly, glaring at him, although it softened slight - just slightly - as she attempted to shuffle back, only to yelp as she put weight on one of her paws, which clearly couldn't take the weight on it. Feeling tears rising in her eyes but furiously blinking them back, she managed a hiss at Roy before she sat down, glancing at her paw. ...Ouch, that was swollen. Damnit.
"'Cause it's all your fault! I'm not short!" she yelped, clearly trying to shout so as not to give away the pain she was in.
Seeing how she couldn't put weight on it, Roy was beginning to get really frustrated at all of this. He moved closer and shook his head, getting down on all fours again. "Get on. You clearly can't walk, so I'll take you where you need to go," he said quietly. He gave her a look to sa if she refused, he'd just force her, tail flicking this way and that. Hearing a chirp, he looked the other way and he smiled. Crii finally found them and he laughed softly. "Hey, Crii. You'll help me take this one home, right?" And he got a chirp in reply.

She watched him with narrowed eyes as he approached, shuffling away as best she could with three paws, eyes only narrowing further as he crouched down on all fours. Get on? Yeah, right. She scowled, quickly shaking her head with a defiant "No!" ...Although it wasn't as defiant as she previously had been. She was tired...and her paw really did hurt... Then the Chirper appeared and she gave a hiss. Why wouldn't he go away!?
He gave a growl of frustration and rolled his eyes. He crouched down on the ground and literally crawled under her. Roy knew he'd probably get bitten and scratched, but he just couldn't let her walk home like that. "Shut up for once, and just let someone else do something nice for you," he said with a hard sigh. "Don't hiss at Crii. She's obviously worried about you, so why not just let her help?" He said, getting up, forcing her to cling to him. Now, which way do you live?"

She hissed, clawing at his back as he crawled under her, but taking care not to pierce his skin. She made to bite him, fastening her teeth around his fur...before relaxing, releasing him as he spoke, growling softly and in a disgruntled manner, only digging her claws in enough to make sure she didn't fall off. A cold breeze blew past and she shuddered, sinking into his fur as she seemed to resign, muttering a quick "Near the big oak."
He didn't feel the teeth or the claws, and didn't really care if he did. Roy knew he'd finally be helping her and that made him happier. The big oak, hm? "C'mon, Crii. Let's go to the big oak." And off in that direction he went, listening to Crii's chirps as she bounced along beside him. Looking up to his passenger, his blue eyes softened a little. "....So... You never did tell me your name."

This was...oddly relaxing. Aphid shuffled about a little, getting comfortable, claws occasionally deepening their grip when he traveled over a large bump, or jumped over a log. She heard him ask her name, but remained silent for a good while, contemplating telling him. Should she? She knew his, it only seemed fair. ...But she was stubborn! She didn't want to! But there really wasn't any point anymore. "Aphid," she grumbled, feeling ever-so pathetic at that moment.
"Aphid.... It's a good name for you," he said with a smile. At least she wasn't hissing at him. He could deal with the claws that occasionally pricked his skin. He nodded a little bit and shifted her back comfortably on him with a few pushes of his shoulder blades. "You live near me, you know. Maybe on the other side, but I live near this oak, too." He said, seeing it coming into view. "So, Aphid. Which side do you live on?"

"Far side." she mumbled, not making any attempt to make conversation, other than answering his questions. She felt really stupid right now - vulnerable. She couldn't do anything, all because her paw was sprained. His fur was warm, yeah, but that didn't make any difference. Nothing made any difference. He was a mongoose, that was all. The thought that he lived just around the tree from him made her shudder a little.
And off he went in that very direction, his tail flicked a bit more and he hummed softly, figuring she wasn't up for conversation anymore. When he got to the far side, he started looking around for a sign of a nest or a den and frowned again, looking to Crii who gave a chirp of confusion. "...So, Aphid? Where do you live? I don't see a nest or anything. If you.... say up the tree, well... You'll just have to come to my den because, well.. I can't climb a tree with you on my back."

He went around the tree, but not quite far enough, stopping to start looking for sighs of her den. She grumbled softly, nudging his neck a little roughly, clambering off of him with a little difficulty, a small hiss of pain escaping through her pointed teeth, but nothing else as she hobbled around the tree a little more, brushing aside a few twigs and leaves she'd placed carefully to hide the small hole in the roots of the tree - only small enough for one as small as Aphid. She glanced back at him, before wriggling inside, disappearing. Two bright, hazel eyes soon shone back out again, though, watching him from the safety of her den. "...Thank you."
He yelped as she nudged his neck roughly and she scrambled down. Roy watched her uncover her den and then sighed when she crawled in. He turned to leave, since he honestly wasn't expecting a thank you, but he heard her soft voice and turned around with a smile on his face. "Welcome, Aphid. Maybe I'll see you around the bay again." With that, he took off to the other side of the oak, at his own, lazy pace with Crii getting on his back and nuzzling into his fur.
