A lot of people lately at my school have been reading just the mainstream stuff that everybody knows about and the current animes are a based off of. I however don't like to read the manga that are going through phases of mass popularity becuase when people see me reading it they won't stop talking about it and how they know everything about it, especially the people who watch the anime ( seriously, these people have put me off of reading Bleach for a while till the frenzy dies down.) Don't get me wrong, I still like some of the more popular series, and I have nothing against anime, I just don't want to have my ears talked off by someone who thinks they know everything from watching a whole season of fillers that had nothing to do with the books and a few relevant ones thrown in on the side. I started reading some random series I had never heard of before and really enjoyed them. These two are definitely my favorites so far:
+Anima: In this world people with the power to call on a specific animal's traits are shunned by humans. Although they were originally ordinary people those who become +Anima are treated as less than human. Most live in hiding, never let on of there powers for fear of what might happen if it becomes known. Many +Anima leave behind their homes and families once they change and wander alone. The series centers around four children who are brought together by their Anima powers. The story begins with Cooro a young lovable boy who constantly has a smile on his face.He is a +Anima of a crow and has the ability to sprout wings and fly. He wanders the world in search of other +Anima and encourages them to travel with him. In his travels he eventually joined by Husky, a moody and serious boy who is a +Anima fish, Senri, a quiet older boy who possesses the Anima of a bear, and Nana, a clothing loving mischief making girl who is a +Anima bat. Together the four of them travel looking for a place where they will find acceptance.
Nightmare Inspector: This series is a collection of short stories. They are mainly mystery with some element of horror in them. Some of them have happy endings and some are just extremely twisted. Every night people plagued by nightmares make their way to the Silver Star Teahouse. There is where Hiruko the dream eating Baku will enter their dreams to help them solve the mysteries tormenting them, for a price.
