It was not unusual to see Rainer out and about town, especially practicing some sports or doing errands. He was sociable and amiable. He liked to be up and doing something active rather than idly sitting around doing homework or watching television. Even just random ambling around the streets and stores was fine with him. He simply did not like being cooped up in their apartment and that was it.

Caine was a whole different case altogether. Although he did not particularly mind about whether he was inside or outside, he found it less troublesome to be inside. There were less possibilities of being disturbed from his sleep. Running children that loudly squealed, frisbees and toys that were thrown off course, and the like. They were all avoided when he slumbered at home.

Hence Rainer always pulled him towards the park for some fresh air. The older boy would not allow for a couch-potato Caine. Not like it made much of a difference. He still slept anyways, just under a tree instead of on a couch.

“Excuse, would you mind helping me for a bit?” a young girl innocently asked Rainer with the tilt of her head.

He quickly glanced at his brother before turning to the child, nodding. “Sure!” He was just going to sleep there the whole time right? No harm would come to him, he was sure of it. Rainer walked off.

For once, Caine Moreau was without his twin and he had not a clue.

Though it wasn't his favorite place to be, Lucien minded the park less than his usual school image of 'intelligent, cultured, headmaster's son' would imply. The large green expanse was relaxing in its own way, and he'd always enjoyed watching others interact in whatever situation. The ducks helped, too... he'd never admit it, but he thought the things were cute - especially when they bit some unsuspecting victim.

Lucien grinned as he watched it happen again, a youngish looking boy straying too close to the birds and being rewarded by a peck that could never be considered to be a caress even in the loosest of ways. The boy yelped, ran a few steps back, and then tried to get closer once again, as though hoping it wouldn't happen a second time. The grin on Lucien's face turned into a soft laugh as the very same duck gave the boy an evil look out of a beady black eye seconds before striking again. "Heeeeey!" The boy's half-wail could be heard even at a distance, as the poor, tormented kid ran back to his unsympathetic parents.

Perhaps he liked the ducks a little more than he should.

Stepping off the worn path that meandered throughout the park, Lucien took a deep breath and released it slowly, scanning the area for a suitable place to read the book he'd brought with him. It was a busy day today - the cheery sun and clear skies had brought out more than just families, and there were quite a few couples and teenagers, either hanging out or whispering sweet nothings in some secluded corner. He wasn't up for that today, though, so he barely gave the other park occupants a second glance.

Though he did stop, and frown slightly as his green eyes lighted upon a slightly familiar figure, slumped under a tree. Was that... Caine? Alone? A second quick glance through the nearby park area failed to show his twin, and intrigued, Lucien headed in that direction, the grass crunching almost silently under his feet.

It only took a few seconds, and then Lucien was there, his shadow falling over the sleeping figure as he put a small smile on his face. "Hey, there."

It was not often Caine dreamt while he was sleeping, but this time he was. Most times if not always, in movies and books whatever happened in dreams seemed to be significant the story. The concept of using dreams to foreshadow upcoming events and overall giving the dream a deeper meaning was a useful device, but unrealistic. People had dreams all the time, but how often was it that it actually signaled something ominous? Far and few, if any at all. The boy did not particularly believe in such anomalies. Reality simply did not work that way. Although Caine admitted that the world of Shibusen was also a farfetched idea, he could not bring himself to believe in foreshadowing dreams. They could not exist, right?

His dream was simple yet vague. Caine found himself stuck in the middle of nowhere, and he literally did mean nowhere. Everywhere the lad looked it was white, white, and more white. He lowered his head and noticed that it appeared he was standing on nothing, just air. Immediately his mind clued in and concluded that this must be a dream, yet he was unsure of how to snap himself awake. It was said that people had thousands of dream each night, but always forgot them. Only once in a blue moon did Caine remember a dream or realize he was in one.

While Caine continued to slowly look at his surroundings (although there wasn’t much to look at), he heard his brother’s chipper greet him from behind. He whipped around to face his sibling, but realized how far away Rainer was. He began to call out to the older boy, who smiled at Caine and began to walk off. Caine indignantly cried out and chased after him. Rainer turned around and spoke in an unfamiliar voice, “Hey there.”

He opened his eyes and slowly sat up. The first thing Caine saw was Lucien, standing over him with a smile on his face. The blond scowled and grunted, turning his head left and right to search for his twin. Realizing that Rainer was nowhere in sight, he looked bewildered. “Why that dense brother of mine . . .” he grumbled, mumbling profanities under his breath.

Well, it certainly looked as though Caine wasn't very happy to see him there. Or then again, perhaps he'd interrupted a particularly pleasant dream. It didn't matter either way, though, since Lucien had already decided to take advantage of this opportunity to see how Caine acted without his brother around. People acted differently without others around to see, and he was curious to know what Caine's true nature was like.

He accepted the WEAPON's grunt as acknowledgment of his presence, and dropped gracefully down onto the grass beside him uninvited, as though it was the most natural thing in the world to do. One eyebrow quirked at the other's bewildered face and words, and Lucien quickly reassessed the situation.

"It's not often anyone sees you without Rainer," he began. "Maybe the ducks got him?"

So Caine wasn't out here on his own on purpose. Did the guy ever do anything for himself? Lucien felt a slight flicker of annoyance at the thought and quickly suppressed it, knowing it wouldn't be conductive to the current conversation.

"Well either way," he continued, leaning back on his hands and savoring the feel of the sun on his face, "it's a nice day to enjoy some sunshine, don't you think?"

Caine did not act that particularly different when not in his brother’s presence, but his tendency to constantly doze off made it difficult to discern what his exact disposition was like. The main, if not only, impression that people garnered was that the lad loved to sleep—he could probably doze through the end of the world if he wanted to—and became pretty damn cranky when woken up by someone not his brother or TECHNICIAN.

With one sleepy eye half-open, Caine grudgingly scratched his head and yawned. His hand idly combed through the tangled strands of his hair. Scowling, Caine directed his gaze at Lucien. “In case you haven’t realized, we’re not conjoined twins. We may seem joined at the hip, but we’re completely two different entities that have different interests. We aren't together every waking moment.” His irritated tone and glare made the difference that more obvious. “Yes, it’s possible that the ducks got that buffoon.

He sighed, adjusting himself so that he leaned against the trunk of the tree he was resting under. The wood was somewhat smooth, but hard and uncomfortable to lie against. Caine stubbornly remained under the cool shade. “The weather is nice, but I’ve never been too keen about playing outside.” He crossed his arms and calmly closed his eyes. As the rhythm of his breathing studied, it wouldn’t be too a far fetch to assume Caine had already fallen asleep. “Anyways, why would you be interested enough to strike a conversation with me?

"Yes, I realize you're not conjoined twins," Lucien drawled lazily, amusement lacing his tone. His eyes, however, were thoughtful as they drifted over Caine's scowling features before returning to meet the other's gaze. It appeared that sleeping part of the pair had some bite to him after all. "Which is exactly why I'm trying to make conversation with you. Like I said, it's rare not to see you asleep while your brother is doing all the talking."

Having decided that forthrightness was the way to go with the irritated twin beside him, Lucien offered a mild shrug and continued, "I'm usually curious to see what others have to say, and there hasn't been a chance for that with you until now."

Slender fingers toyed idly with the grass, flicking the blades this way and that as he paused, studying Caine's relaxed posture and closed eyes. A sardonic smile tugged at his lips while there was nobody to see, and Lucien abruptly shifted to a more comfortable position flat on his back with his hands tucked behind his head, settling in for what was likely to be a long, slow dialogue.

"I'm not much of an outdoors person, either. But it's nice to take a walk from time to time, and contrary to popular opinion, Z leaves me to my own devices more often than not." Which was not, precisely, the truth, but it would do for now.

Hn.” Caine had no immediate response. It was true that he often hitched a ride on Rainer’s back, allowing his twin to tote him around school. It was true that he often dozed away as he let his older brother carry him from place to place, but that shouldn’t have stopped people from rudely jolting Caine awake. People would have answered to a cranky, moody Caine, but when was he not moody and cranky? On more than one occasion, Caine had attempted to sleep through people calling out to him, but quickly discovered that a pleased Rainer was more than ready to jostle him until he piped up.

I should probably inform you. You could have asked me anything, anytime. There’s nothing barring you from doing so,” he sourly replied after a few moments of ruminating. “Hm. Well, except yourself.” Caine added it as an afterthought. There was something that had prevented Lucien from talking with him until now. It was a rather silly thing though, in his opinion.

Really, now?” A long pause. Caine was not exactly the greatest conversationalist around. If Lucien felt uncomfortable about the odd silence, Caine didn’t bother to rectify it. It wasn’t his problem if the other lad couldn’t adjust.

If Lucien expected Caine to continue the chat, he was sorely wrong. Caine’s breathing remained even. His arms remained crossed. He said nothing. Was he asleep yet?
