We've had some lively discussions about nationalism in here before but I thought I might put this forward.
I'm just doing revision for my Nations and States class, which is mainly about nationalism, and I was reminded of this quote.
`Regardless of the actual inequality and exploitation that may prevail ..., the nation is always conceived as a deep, horizontal comradeship.’ (Benedict Anderson, a scholar of nationalism)
It's not a commie-quote, but I think it does illustrate one of the reasons that we should oppose nationalism.

Ripping good read. I like stalin's writing style. Easy to follow and comprehend.
But it does seem that some form Nationalism was/is used in Communist states as well.

USS Endeavor Ripping good read. I like stalin's writing style. Easy to follow and comprehend. But it does seem that some form Nationalism was/is used in Communist states as well. eh... I would call it patriotism, but essentially it's the same thing.

I would call it patriotism, but essentially it's the same thing. I agree Comrade. I always felt that they should promote Patriotism of Communism.

Thats why during world war 2 Soviet troops would say "For Mother Russia!". I believe in a sort of Patriotism to the working class, as opposed to a given Nation.

Although we can't deny that communist China has always been very nationalist.
One consequence (or cause?) is that they were self-envisioned as a sort of proletariat of the world. This is made more obvious when you look at what their flag symbolises. Each of the little stars symbolise a (revolutionary) class in China: the working class, the peasantry, the urban petty bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie. So yeah, got a bit of horizontal comradeship vs the rest of the world there.
Although, you may want to argue that was necessary at the time.
(If you'd like a source for the proletariat of the world thing, I just looked and it wasn't where I thought. xD But I can keep searching.)

We attribute ourselves, not by out class but by our race, gender, nation etc etc. The problems of the national bourgeoisie become our own we then fight on behalf of them rather than on behalf of ourselves. Fascism does anything it can to keep workers week strictly for the reason that they fear the workers.

Well a patriot will actually question their country and seek to make it better while a nationalist thinks their country is infallible.

The nationalism comes more from the inherent nature of Socialism in one Country as saying 'We don't need the rest of the world, we are the chosen people'. As such, it detracts form the international mission of the proletariat. Yes. Aren't you wonderful and radical. Next time, could you please explain why you think such? It shouldn't be so hard for one as revolutionary-minded as you to come up with some coherent revolutionary theory, should it? I need to adopt you as me personal representative here for when my comp ******** up. The CCP actually saw the war against the KMT as part of the national revolution. It was a revolution for all the 'progressive fores' in China. Rather than call themselves the 'proletariat of the world,' their view was that the most oppressed are the most revolutionary. 3rd world peasants being more oppressed than 1st world workers meant that the 3rd world peasants were inherently more revolutionary than the first world workers. Patriotism is nothing other than the PC word for nationalism. That's really all it comes down to.
