A countless number of people entered a competition to be able to test run a game, a new kind of MMORPG, kind of like The World, from .hack, so to speak. A selection of people won the prize, and made their way to the game's main HQ to get their see what they had won. Once there the people are offered a test run on the game, but were first given a title by the game's staff, from one of these:

Mind
Soul
Body
Blade
Key (otherwise known as Chosen)
Guide

Once given this, the staff began chanting in an unknown language, perhaps for effect, as the floor opened beneath them. A blinding light surged forth, enveloping all of the winners, their surroundings warping and changing in front of their eyes, leaving them in very different scenery, a rundown cathedral or abbey, so it seemed.

The one who had been bestowed the title of the Guide seemed to be in a trance, and started reciting a message:

“Thank you for helping us, winners. Before you ask, this is not the game you were set to test, despite what you might think, from perhaps your clothing, and weapons. This is the parallel realm known as Myndinak, and the world may soon collapse if something cannot be done. Thus, we call on you, young ones, to help us restore peace and equilibrium to Myndinak. If you succeed, you shall be sent back home, and if not, then you have probably met your demise here.

Please help us.”

Mind: They have the appearance and weapons of perhaps a mage, or projectile weapon user. The Mind is given the ability to alter reality with their mind to a small degree, for example, envisioning a chocolate bar, or something else, which then becomes tangible and present. To compensate, they lose physical strength momentarily.

The Soul: The Soul is even more like a mage or magic user than their counterpart. Able to use high level magic, but at a price. On their first casting, a Soul must give up something of meaning to them, in exchange for their power, and will in turn, gain a guardian of a chosen element, to do with the colour of their soul. This guardian can be of beast or humanoid form, and can be an immeasurable companion.

The Body:
Immeasurable strength is granted to this person, and they specialise in hand to hand combat. When strength is used however, the Body can be weakened in their mental state for a short amount of time, becoming confused and delirious, the opposite to the Mind.

The Blade: One skilled in weaponry. For their fighting ability, the Blade must lose a rudimentary sense, such as seeing, or feeling.

The Key: Information is unknown, although for one thing, the Key may not be allowed to die. At all costs.

The Guide: The Guide has knowledge of the area they are in, or the people, even though they have not stepped into Myndinak before. Despite this, they will lose all knowledge they had of the real world, and of earth.

Evil Myndinak Citizens:

The Evil One: xDaishox
Second In Command: Aaeni
Evil Servants:

Username: beckithewatermage
Name: Fern Western
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Personality: Fern is quite quiet and mild in manner, mainly keeping to herself. Although intelligent, she is highly capable of absentminded episodes, which can make her appear dumber than she truly is. She can be very stubborn when her mind is set on something, and will not give up until she gets her way.
Title: The Guide
Skill given up: All memory of her life on Earth.
Weapon: Being the Guide, Fern does not carry a weapon.
Real Life Appearance: Fern
Myndinak Appearance: Mydinak Fern
History: Fern was raised in a rather normal family, the only child of a supermarket manager and a receptionist. Her up bringing was stable, her grades good in school, and the girl had been attending university for a degree before the Myndinak episode.

One thing that Fern had always been obsessed with, was the world of fantasy and the middle ages, with knights, and brave warriors. Therefore, it is not surprising that she got into gaming, mainly RPGs, and so therefore jumped at the chance to actually try out a new revolutionary MMORPG, and was even more excited when she actually won.

Shame she cannot remember any of this now – she thinks she is one of the locals…

Username: Godz Hatred
Name: Voltaire Lustral
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Personality: Voltaire is a very hot headed young man. He is decently smart, and thus thinks he knows the answer to any situation or question instinctively and always goes with his gut reaction. This has led to many rash decision made within his life, all of which Voltaire claims to be "the right" way to solve his problems.
Title: Blade
Skill given up: feeling
Weapon: Like any good fantasy RPG, one character must have a giant sword, and Voltaire is that character. He wields a large 8 foot long blade with a golden orange hit inlaid with a large orange gem at the bottom that he wears across his back. It is heavy and cumbersome.
Real Life Appearance: Voltaire
Myndinak Appearance: Game Voltaire (Minus the wings)
History: Voltaire loved video games growing up. He spent countless hours in front of a tv as a kid, and as he grew up he continued to play. Voltaire loved RPGs. The young man was also smart and hot headed, and always made his decisions the instant he was given the options. He went on to college to be a Game Design student on a whim. As he heard about the contest to beta test this new game, the young man proclaimed he'd be one of the winners.

Username: Leid
Name: Julia Haddaway
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Personality: Julia is a very sweet girl, rather bright, but not a fast thinker when in stressful situations as she is always worried about upsetting others around her. She craves to be adored, but is too shy to try to go out of her way to gain the affection of others keeping her in a state of worry about how others view her.

Title: The Key
Skill given up: The majority of her combative talents learned from karate and larping, and some of the grace learned from dancing.
Guardian: n/a
Weapon: While not adept at fighting anymore she has staff that she can use to protect herself and defend as well, though she uses it more as a walking stick.
Real Life Appearance: Julia Normal
Myndinak Appearance: Julia "In Game"
History: People say the middle child always has it bad, but sometimes that's just not true. Julia is the youngest of three siblings; her, her brother and her sister from youngest to oldest. Whenever she found something that would draw the positive attention of others she'd continue on with it. Through her life Julia has joined dancing and karate and excelled well at both. As she got older she became an avid larper and, while always liking fantasy games and stories, she became a little more obsessed, but not unhealthily so.

After high school she never figured out what she wanted to do with her life, so she defaulted to community college just to stay in school not wanting to displease anyone in her family.

Username: Leid
Name: Samuel Young
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Personality: He can be quiet and a bit aloof
Title: The Soul
Skill given up: The ability to speak.
Guardian: Sam's Guardian
Weapon: The only weapon he has is a small blade, a very small blade, which is usually sheathed at his side.
Real Life Appearance: Sam Normal
Myndinak Appearance: Sam "in Game"
History: Sam was always a bit of a shut in. His awkwardness in his early years kept him from reaching out as he got older. He threw himself into the fantasy ream, doodling in his note books, writing fantasy stories and becoming totally and completely submersed in video games, mostly of the RPG genre where he could be a hero, sometimes others, but not very often.

Once out of high school Sam got a part time job and began throwing his life away to MMOs and further becoming lost in fantasy as life tried to force itself upon him. His parents are beside themselves as they can find no way to motivate their son to move on when all he wants to do is draw, write and play games.

Username: The Squire2020
Name: William Ulthadar
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Personality: Usually shy and calm, and always thinks things through before acting on an idea, usually to the extreme of doing nothing till he is sure it will work. He becomes very nervous when infront of a group of people, and freezes up. He is always willing to help someone out however, and enjoys talking when it is with someone he knows.
Title: Mind
Skill given up: Low physical strength, even more so shortly after using his ability.
Weapon: Crossbow.
Real Life Appearance: Walkul
Myndinak Appearance: Myndinak Walkul
History: Walkul grew up as an only child, and never had more than one or two friends. He would spend most of his time either infront of the computer playing an MMORPG, the TV playing an RPG, or reading a book, usually medieval fantasy. He was very smart however, and went through school with slightly better than average grades, and learned some website design. He was always wanting to either make his own video game, or write a book, but could never decide between the two, and so far has never made a serious step in either direction. He entered the contest to beta test the game as soon as he had figured out enough about it to realize he would really enjoy the game when it was really released, and was very excited when he found out he had won, though he didn't have many people to tell.

Username: Asssassin_Entreri
Name: Timothy "Tim" Planter
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Personality: Timothy is rather nice and laidback, but when it comes to business, he's short tempered and impatient. While he prefers to work alone, he will tolerate working in a group. He loves close combat with a passion and tends to get lost in it.
Title: The Body
Skill given up: Wisdom
Guardian: None
Weapon: Tim always loved to beat things to death with is fist.
Real Life Appearance: Tim
Myndinak Appearance: Tim's avatar
History: Timothy works as an account for a huge business firm and gaming was always a way to relieve stress for him. Not only did he grow up playing games and spending all afternoon on Saturdays with a group of friends playing all sorts of games from dungeons and dragons to Halo, but he always preferred RPGs the best.

Gaming also always gave him a chance to be a hero and flirt with the ladies, something he could not truly accomplish in real life.

Username: Aaeni
Name: Dyre Thorfinn
Age: 10
Gender: Male
Race: Goblin, they usually only live 30 years so they age faster then most humans, therefore Dyre is about middle aged. In human years, he would be about 30.
Occupation: The Second in Command
Morality: Evil.
Personality: He is not one to enjoy all the joy and happiness in the world. He loves destruction for one, but really dislikes all those haughty people who think their so much better then everyone else. He loves to watch people suffer, and often is the one making them suffer with it. Unfortunetally, due to this, he is often very ruthless in battle and may sometimes have a bit of a temper.
Magic: Large speed, (Minor) and the ability to conjure up one creature to ride, such as a wolf. He may only do this every hour, and the creature only lasts for thirty minutes. (Major)
Weapon: A large staff that has two blades on each end, one on the bottom and one on the top, allowing him to use it any way he likes. He also carries a small throwing knife pack of 4 knives.
Appearance: Dyre Thorfinn
History: Dyre took great pleasure in evil things when he was young. He loved to watch people die in their little goblin campsite, such as battles. He grew to be a very powerful man, always there to enjoy the suffering of little goblins. Then he was found by The Evil One. His camp was slaughtered like dogs, and he survived. The Evil One enjoyed his company at first, then began slowly training him to become better, stronger. He was taught what he has now, taught to use some of the best weapons. Now he is the second in command of The Evil One. He doesn't believe him to be evil at all though, he in fact believes this to be right.

They had what was coming to them. The suffering he would always remember. As a scar, no. As pure joy he'd remember it forever. The day he finally had a purpose. Now he enjoys torturing whoever he wants in the dungeons, being the second in command gives him that ability. It was such a wonderful thing to be the second in command to all things delightfully enjoyable.

Username: xDaishox
Name: Lucifer Alvarez
Age: 399
Gender: Male
Race: Djinn (An evil spirit. They are made of black fire and occupy a parallel world to that of mankind. Magicians, if powerful enough, can summon one, but if the magician shows even even a hint of weakness the Djinn it summoned can escape and wreck havoc on both the Magician and the world at large.)
Occupation: The Evil One
Morality: Evil
Personality: Lucifer tries to be a rather calm individual but tends to get furious when things don't go his way. He holds in his emotions and tries not to let them interfere with his plans to escape, but most of the time they get the better of him, also leading him to commit unexpected and rash acts. This makes him rather careless a lot of the time, yet thanks to the help of his minions he's often helped out of said situations he gets himself into. He enjoys the rather simple things in life - the colour of blood for example, and courting young, naive ladies; however, it is not for attraction that he flirts but more for amusement.
Magic: Incredible stamina (minor), and partial gravity control (major)(It only works on himself, and never completely). For example when jumping he can take away some of his weight to jump higher, or when kicking someone he could make himself slightly heavier for a harder impact. This never works to drastic proportions however.
Weapon: A pair of chakrams laced with magical tips so the edges never get blunted are his favourite to use. He also keeps a chain whip concealed for select situations.
Appearance: -Lucifer-
History: Lucifer was originally in a world filled with only Djinn, that was until he was summoned to the 'real world' by a magician. Of course he was able to overtake the magician who had called him and kill him, earning his freedom. This was only to discover, to his displeasure, that this world was seemingly an alternate world from where he had aimed to go - Earth.
He soon learned from various sources that the world was on the brink of collapse, but that a small group of warriors from another world had come to attempt to reverse the degradation of the world they now resided in. Lucifer figured that once this world was destroyed, since he had already been freed of his Djinn realm, that after one world collapsed he could choose the planet he wished for next to go to. He spent lots of him time plotting to prevent the downfall of these 'heros' so he would be allowed to reach his ultimate destination.
Within his journey he found a good comrade in Dyre and found his help and opinions to be invaluable. He always seemed to know the right thing to do or say to please Lucifer, and to also to keep him in check.

Godz Hatred
Voltaire blinked several times to try and let his eyes adjust after the blinding flash. The white light had exploded right in front of his face it seemed, and before letting up, the young man had heard a voice in his head, something about saving a world or perishing along with it. He had no idea what that had meant, and really just wanted to get along with this new beta test.
Finally the glare had subsided enough so that he could see once more. His vision was still blurry, but it was clearing up slowly as time went on. He looked around at the group that he had come in here with, wondering if they too had been seen the burst of white light. As his vision cleared, Voltaire started to notice that some things had changed during that flash of light. The few people he had come in with were now wearing totally different outfits, like they were LARPing now or something. Thats kinda stupid, we don't even know what the main characters look like yet, he thought to himself. He also had no clue how they had all changed so fast without him at least hearing the rustle of all their clothes and whatnot.
Voltaire raised his hand to pointed to the nearest kid and began to ask, "Nice costume buddy, but how in the-" but cut himself short as he noticed his own arm was now covered in gold and blue armor. His whole body was covered in it he realized after a few seconds. The scenery finally caught up to the young man too. The group was standing in the center of an old chapel, Voltaire thought, complete with tall pillars supporting a high domed ceiling. Stained glass windows depicting warriors and angels ran along the walls, and great tapestries hung in between them.
"Where the hell are we?" Voltaire asked to the group, hoping one of them could fill him in on whatever happened during that flash.

"The abbey of Saint Meria, two miles from the port town of Telka, in the South East of the Mydinak continent", a voice swiftly replied, "the abbey was dissolved twenty years ago when Myndinak scholars found that Meria was fraudulent and not truly accredited with Sainthood." Silly people, the young woman thought to herself, how can they not know where they are? Everybody knows about the incident with the abbey!

But then, how did she end up here, too? She did not recollect ever travelling to the abbey, nor traversing through Telka. And come to mention it, what was her name? She looked down at her clothing, wondering if it would give her a reminder of her identity. Her eyes were met with a dress, not an expensive garment, but with a multicoloured band in its design making it just a cut above tavern wench thoroughfare. Well, she was not in monastic robes, so she was not a monk. Because if she was, that would be bad, as Merian monks were bound to silence and if a word was uttered were drowned...

She also had the odd feeling that this knowledge, although she had a good grasp of it, was somehow, new. Like she was learning it while she was reciting it. Perhaps she had suffered memory loss of some kind, and so was freshly remembering information as she said it. Perhaps the armoured and armed bunch in front of her were vagabonds, who had kidnapped her, for some reason, a reason that she could not even remember anyway...

"Hey!" Fern exclaimed, "are you bandits?"

"Looks like someone did their homework," Voltaire said with a snicker. "Hey, did the testers give you some kind of sneak peak or something? I thought we were going into this blind, although it would make sense for us to get some kinda explanation of the game before we started testing it..." His voice trailed off at the end.
It hit him. He knew exactly what was going on here. Why everyone was dressed up, what the bright flash was, and why this building they were in looked so real.

They were in some sort of virtual reality.

Voltaire had read about some new methods that where in testing right now for virtual reality. People were put in a room and given a helmet to wear, plus some gloves. With the helmet, they could see what was intended for them to see and the gloves helped interact with the game. How Voltaire had been suited up in one of these contraptions was beyond him, but the graphics in the place were gorgeous!
"Hahaha! Oh my god! These graphics are incredible. I've never felt so immersed in a game before. This virtual reality thing is great!" the young man exclaimed, running over to a wall and rubbing it with his hand.
The weird thing was, he could not feel the wall in front of him though. And Voltaire soon realized he could not feel the rest of his body. When he told his arms to move, they did, and same with his legs, but he could not physically feel them. He knew they were still apart of his body, for his limbs and torso emitted a strange numb like feeling, but beyond that, Voltaire could not distinguish any pressure or texture from whatever he touched. Voltaire pushed on the wall in front of him, getting a sense of its solidarity from the fact he could not pass through it, but still could not feel the wall.
"Interesting... well looks like I found my first glitch! I can't feel anything," he called back to the group.

...life is a constant and death is a beast...

The light blazed brightly around the small group, engulfing them, filling them and as the light faded they found themselves in the nearly empty building standing around as Fern spoke. A pang hit Julia's heart for a moment, just a moment, as she felt the impact of Fern's plea. For that moment she believed it. Her cheeks flushed as Voltaire spoke about the costumes, her face growing even more red as she took a glance down at her cleavage. Quickly she raised her arms to attempt to cover her chest, but to no avail as the milky white skin still showed from the plunging neckline.

Sam, meanwhile, was looking around wondering off a few steps, taking in the sight of the room. Upon Voltaire mentioning the sensory glitch he moved to press his hand to a wall himself. Julia pursed her lips and shook her head.

"I can feel things. Um, I mean, like," and she patted her hands against her arms, then reached up to feel her new hair-do, "I'm not glitchy."

Samuel removed the glove from his hand, the cool air hitting his skin and he reached up to press his palm to the wall. The texture felt so real. Each little piece of the wall underneath his fingertips felt vibrant and alive. The earth within the wall called to Samuel's soul, all but begging him to shape and move it with energy he had in him.

With out giving it a second thought Samuel conjured something from deep within him, something that he felt was always there but could only now connect with. Between his hand and the wall a small bit of moss grew. Ecstatic about his new found power, he turned his head to speak, a breath escaping his lips, just barely rattling in his chest, and once it hit his mouth he felt light headed and no sound came from him as his vision blurred, his legs failing him and his body falling into that cool rough wall.

Julia looked to Fern, a faintly confused expression crossing her face, a short laugh carrying her words, "We aren't bandits." She held up the staff in her hands, "We are the good guys and we gotta go save princesses and--" Julia whirled around caught in the fantasy still thinking this was a virtual reality game, but then she stopped short and a quick shriek escaped her lips.

Before where Samuel was draped against the wall, stood a creature. It was monstrous, odd protrusions coming from it's back, the four legged beast's head sprouting tentacles and horns in place of a muzzle. It's tiny beady eyes glared lifelessly down at them, it's back not quite but almost breaking eight feet at it's highest point including the thick patch of hair sprouting from it's shoulders. A low rumble of a noise passed along it's mouth.
