If Australia were to become a republic, would you support the re-naming of Australia or the maintenance of the "Commonwealth of..." prefix?

Yes, 'Republic' or even 'Democratic Republic' would fly well with me, but I'm pretty open to anything.

I hear Federal Republic of Australia being chucked around a lot. Don't know about Democratic Republic though, makes us sound like communists. If we were truly a democracy we wouldn't need to put in our name. wink
|

It should be mentioned though that the RAC advised the Federal Government that Australia could still keep the "Commonwealth" prefix as there's nothing in the name that's inherently or overtly un-republican and monarchist.

Federal Republic of Australia
Federal Commonwealth of Australia
Commonwealth Republic of Australia
Commonwealth Democratic Republic
Personally I'm most partial to:
Federal Democratic Commonwealth of Australia.
Since technically our beginning is more coming together of provinces or colonies, I think Commonwealth works well, and I just like the word Federal, and Democracy seems kind of essential.
