Are you for or against labeling or categorizing people? discuss your reasons either for or against.

I was in the middle of coming up with something really witty and awesome to say...
Of course. I label my ***CHINESE*** girl all the time. She is totally chinese. I hate that so much. Ohm? Myself? I'm in a category of sanity by all means. Yeah, I guess I do. It doesn't have to be personal. If a person goes around their entire life causing misery, I'd label them as "Bad People." If they spent their whole life doing altruistic mannerisms, I'd label them as "Good People." I'm not going to label a friend a "d**k" just because he swore at me, or say that my buddy is a "Nerd" just because he goes around speaking Japanese Anime quotes. But yeah. Where there is a positive reinforcement, I'd totally label each and every person I could. It doesn't have to be a personal, racial, or discriminitive. ~Stephen~
...But then I got caught up in how much I love her. Sorry! My fault! (Your fault?!?)

awesome!!!!! I honestly thought you would be against labeling. (don't know why.... its just that most people are these days....) I am pro labels myself. I figure that its just part of human culture and proves to be useful when used in certain situations. I hate when people are against labels and think that if people didn't label others the world would magically change......

I think labels are necessary, as bad as that sounds. It's kind of... needed in the way that we describe things. Now, I don't agree with it when it becomes a negative thing, as there are obvious negative labels. But when it's used as a descriptive category, I really don't see the difference between that and describing an animal as fuzzy. I mean, I didn't care when I was labeled as a nerd or as a tomboy or punk rocker. That was who I was. o.O

i'm gonna be the odd one out here and say "against". yes, it's natural to label people. anyone who says they don't is (most likely) a hypocrite. but it's still not a good idea. ever, i think. even if it turns out ok. i use labels all the time. and i stereo-type people. i do use the labels as "discriptions", constantly adding/stacking/changing them. but i don't really think there's a "correct" way to label people. and when i stereo-type people, i usually wish i didn't. but, at the same time, i usually go out of my way to make fun of stereo-types. so, take it for what it's worth?
edit: i don't think labels have much/anything to do with "who you are". it's usually all about how you act. you can do like one thing at one time and get a label.

I vaguely remember talking to a certain person about this one. I love labeling people. Society is full of labels. The only way to truly get rid of labeling, I think, would be to abolish language itself. Since words mean different things to different people, it's often the case that one person's definition of a label doesn't fit with the other's. But whatever, conflict is inevitable.

Because labels have different meanings. Labels tend to encompass more than one or two actions. Not everyone who can stay on a skateboard tends be to called a skater, in my experience.

I'd say it really just depends on how it's used.

The core values seem almost all the same. The words used from post to post differ, but the echoing factors beneath them ring the same tune.
