Jade slowly walked along the coast. The soft sand sunk under her bare feet and the tide washed her tracks away. Her waist length brown hair billowed behind her. She had been coming to this area ever since she could walk and even before but today something was diffrent. The sun was setting so dark red and purple shadows were cast about. Tonight she was drawn to the area. She sat down at the edge of the shore, feeling a longing to jump into the water and swim. She knew thet was impossible since the sharks came into the shallower waters at night. Right now she didn't care though. She dove in, the sharp freezingness of the water penatrating her skin like millions of little needles. The water surrounded her, carresing her skin and taking her deeper. With ever time she kicked her legs deeper she lost control of one at a time. They moved in harmoney eventually and she looked behind her to see a glittering red tail, the color of the setting sun. Gills formed on her neck and small fins on the sides of her wrist. She saw she was clutching a small shell she had found on the beach. It was red with silver streaks through it. She dropped it thinking it was useless but the seond it left her fingers she couldn't breath and her tail disappeared. She quickly tried to seize it but couldn't catch it. She qiuckly passed out and didn't see the merman coming closer out of the seaweed.
