I was curious, in any of your games have you ever offered people/been offered something extra when going above and beyond in roleplaying? This doesn't mean just experience, it could have been items gold or even just a soda or a bag of chips. Also as a thread starter I'll give you an interesting one my 4.0 Dm has been using since we started.

"EXP Lottery"
The DM would assign your character a score based loosely on how involved/ on character it was from 1-6 (six being top notch and one being barely coherent.) The numbers would correspond to dice a "1" being a d4 and a "6" being a d20. The players would then roll those dice and multiply the result by 10. (Thus on all dice you have a minimum of 10xp just for showing up, but if your the godzilla of roleplaying and touch the compassionate and appreciative inner core of the DM and roll high you could net yourself 200xp)

This system works fairly well and helps keep us (A group mostly made out of OOC jokers and meme throwers) focused and intent on our game persona, and make our games more than a bit involved. Now share some of yours, I'd love to see what interesting ways your groups are rewarded for roleplaying.

That actually sounds like a great idea ^_^ I agree with you Chiron.

A system for bonus xp is being worked on atm. This way it's more fair for everyone due to same leveling rate, and no "1000g+" starts that just kill the game for others. I do like the idea and will make a post about it in the abyss. mrgreen

I was just... sweatdrop I was just using my friends IRL game concept/house rule on attendance as an example to spur on further discussion not as something necessarily needed in this guild. If you like the idea though then by all means. I just wanted to hear about a few of the things you all do to spur on good roleplaying either online or offline.

Ah, my apologies... I'm a bit scatterbrained and stressed as of late xD Umm, we are working on a set rule for bonus xp as of right now... however... my campaigns have bonus xp for "Bravery", "Staying in Character", "Certain Checks", and "Creativity".

Since I'm bored and apparently none of the games I made a character for are ready to start I'll post another. This time from the first group I played 3.5 with and their "Low magic campaign"

Worth Points
The planet has found your talents worthy and has granted you a trophy from a past hero to help you on your path. ~How they roleplayed it.

How it worked:
At the end of the session the DM would serve as a mediator and the players would all write down on a scale from 1-10 how well the other players did. Then these would be totaled per player (I'll give you an example below) and the totals would be added to previous weeks so you would build up a pool of worth points. Then at the end of a game session you could also redeem a set amt of worth points for any number of things including but not limited to.
1) Gold
2) Magic Items
3) Free assistance from a deity (Took a whole lot of pts)
4) Draw from a universal deck of many things
5) Custom weapons w/ enchantments
6) any item one of your previous characters had in their possession (again lots of pts)
7) Wish spell (Had to have so many pts for this it was almost laughable)

There were others as well but this was all I could remember.

Now here was the example.
Russ: Good roleplayer, stays in character and helps the group when appropriate.
David: Terrible Roleplayer, doesn't stay in character hardly knows the rules and makes the game derail consistently.
Vicki: Average by all means.

Game 1
Russ: +8(Vicki) +4(David...jerk) =12pts
David: +1(Vicki) +1(Russ) =2pts
Vicki: +5(Russ) +5(David) =10pts

The custom magic item would really have to take a lot of points.... I have several custom made ones that make some artifacts look like a child's playthings.

Yeah everything was pretty steep. Like 100,000pts for a custom weapon w/ enchantments I never made it that far, opting out for the simpler things my character could use immediately.

Ahhh, but that +10 sentient sword is just to tempting....

I think personally Reggad would score a good 100+ points with how he has been acting this past few days. (Real life days). Then again, my druid would get good points just for the role-play value that he gives... something about nearly taking out an evil mage by crashing into him at the start of the campaign.... Yes that's right. I'm talking about you, Thread Pirate Tree Harmer Cohens...

Wait ... What? Darn it your going to make me have to go through your games to find these gems aren't you?

Is there a pun intended in that as a reference to the Jewel of Discord campaign?.... Reggad has been acting extremely chivalrous lately.... when the DM has royalty commenting on it you know you are doing a good job... the druid.... well you would have to read that yourself.. same campaign listed above.

Pun...? Why yes it is, though surprisingly unintentional. I probably need to read through at least on thread previously started. Playing D&D online in a forum is a whole new beast for me so its taking a bit to adjust. Meanwhile I make myself look like a fool.

The main thing is that it offers unique role playing advantages and disadvantages.

You are welcome to join my campaign if you like, to help you adjust to play by post style of play.

My wizard, Aucturus, might have the chaotic evil alignment, but he's just misguided, he's actually a very good person... at dieing... Thread Pirate D: pirate
