I was walking through a graveyard, with my friends, at midnight. Did I mention it was Halloween? Great.
The fog was so thick, I could barely see anything. Almost stumbling over a small headstone, my boyfriend, Kaden pulled me into a tight hug. "Whoa, are you ok Elizabeth?"
"I'm fine. I just tripped over a headstone or something." I uttered a short apology to the deceased I disturbed. Like my family, I respect the dead, especially on Halloween, the one night of the year the dead can cross over to the realm of living. I don't want any angry spirits on my back.
"Oh." He paused for a second. He heard my apology. He knew about, and respected my beliefs. "Want me to carry you?"
"It's fine Hon." I kissed him and ran to catch up to the others.
Kaden ran up behind me and grabbed me by the waist. "Hey, why did you leave me behind?"
"I was racing you!" i stuck my tongue out at him and kept running.
"Not fair!" He called after me.
I stopped and looked back; he was about 5 feet behind me. I ran faster, wind blowing through my natural jet black and pink hair. Don't ask why, or how it is my natural colour, because I don't even know.
As I bolted through the cemetery, I considered why I even came...
"Hey Erica, what are you doing for Halloween?" Erica is my best friend. She has been since we were in diapers.
"Hanging out with Nick and a few other people, in the cemetery." She whipped her head around, her blond hair flipping over her shoulder, "Wanna come? Kaden can, too."
"Maybe, I'll ask him."
I was in a different part of the cemetery; an older part. The headstone were white, covered in moss. And there was a large crypt. The atmosphere in this area of the cemetery felt different. It made me feel... powerful. The air felt slightly colder, and not because of how late it was. I noticed the temperature change when I stepped on this side of the gate that separates this area from the rest of the cemetery.
I thought I saw a woman beside me, but when I looked, she was gone. Someone placed their hand on my shoulder. Only, there was nobody there. I felt a chill down my spine; an icy breath on my neck. Again, I was the only person in this part of the cemetery. "Welcome home."
I looked all around me. I was alone. "Guys? This isn't funny! Come on out. Joke's over!"
Nothing. Everything was quiet.
The hand that had been on my shoulder stroked my left arm, giving me goosebumps. I looked down. There was still nothing there. But I could feel it. It took my hand and lead me to the crypt. There was something engraved in the framing above the door. 'Nekros Manteia'. On the door its self, there was an imprint of a hand. Against my will, my hand raised up and placed its self in the imprint. It started glowing an eerie green colour.
Unhesitatingly, I pulled my hand away. When I turned to run, I was frozen in place. There was a... ghost standing. No, floating infront of me. She looked very beautiful. She had coffee coloured hair, and cream skin.
I looked her up and down, then into her eyes. She must have saw the fear in mine, because she said, "Do not fear, child. For, I will not harm you."
I backed up, pressing against the door of the crypt. When I opened my mouth to ask her- I don't even know what to ask- nothing came out. I was that afraid.
"What is the date, child?"
As I struggled to find my voice, I noticed a young girl walking up the steps. "It-it's October 31, 2008."
She paid no attention to the child tugging at her dress. "Ah, Samhain... I thought as much. I suppose that is the only reason you are able to see me..."
