Hey kids! Your friendly neighborhood Riyo here to give you a few tippity do's on the magical world of RP! Gee, roleplay can be a cracker jack of a time for everyone involved, as long as you learn a little thing I like to call: Roleplay Etiquette.
And I know you kids are saying to yourselves: "Gee, RP Etiquette? Sounds like a boring shitfest." Well let me tell you little turds, it's essential if you ever want to make friends and not die alone!
We'll start with the simple stuff. Different labels. [ORP] means open RP! In other words: C'mon in, the water is fine! Time to get those fingers a typin' to impress your potential RP buddies!
HOWEVER, There's a condition I have to warn you kids about, and it's a serious one indeed...
MAIN CHARACTER SYNDROME otherwise known as MCS is a good way to sign up on the s**t list of everyone around you. What this means is that, you attempt to center any and every happenings in said RP around your character. In a [PRP] or an [ORP] of your creation, this is fine as long as all parties are in agreement or stated that this is apart of a characters plot, BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ACCEPTABLE IN AN [ORP] NOT OF YOUR CREATION OR A MASS META PLOT RP.
Symptoms of MCS include:
1. Addressing everyone in one post, even if these characters aren't able to communicate or are nowhere near you.
2. Making time go faster for your own sake. Saying "a few minutes later" when everyone else is preoccupied is a little annoying, and will most likely be ignored by other players.
3. Literally, making it all about you. There are other people, and frankly, they're probably just as interesting if not moreso than your character.
Moving on, [PRP] is Private RP. Meaning "Hey. Unless you're invited, pool's closed." Do not. Ever. Post in a Private RP you're not invited to. It's awkward, inconvenient, and just overall rude. However, if you're making one yourself, then MCS is a non-existent problem as long as all parties are agreed.
Last but not least, there's the Mass Metaplot RPs! There will of course be set rules for these, but you're allowed to join as long as you meet any set requirements (if there are any)! Don't understand what these are? Let me explain.
Usually in a metaplot, there will be a moderator stating what is being done, what is happening around you, or any interesting happenstances. We'll call this person the RP director. Now, if the RP director wants, they can tell you where to eat, sleep, and s**t. But usually they give you a little more freedom than that. Here are a few tips to stay on top and ensure everybody is having fun like you!
1. MCS is not welcome here. Don't you DARE bring your festering disease anywhere near this sacred place of fun.
2. Don't get ahead of yourself. There is an RP director, and while you can act upon what they may say or suggest, don't forget that they exist. Here's an example:
RP Director: There's a dark room in front of you.
You: Generic character name strides into the dark room and finds a flashlight at his feet. With a look of surprise, he picks it up and shines it around. Holy s**t! Generic character name finds a million dollars! With that money, he buys and marries a hooker wife and lives happily ever after.
In other words, don't pull s**t out of the air that wasn't given to you.
NOW KIDS, if you've been in the RPing world for a little while, you may have noticed a term floating around by the name of godmode.
What's godmode? THE WORST ******** TABOO YOU CAN PULL IN THE RP WORLD.
Lets make this clear. YOU. DO. NOT. CONTROL. SOMEONE. ELSES. CHARACTER. EVER.
EVER.
Unless you're the RP director of a metaplot. Then it's A.O.K.

You know kids, RP wouldn't be possible without your own personal OC, or Original Character. OC's are great! They can be whatever you want them to be, whether you're the angsty teenage pee pants type or the dumb broad that just wants to oggle the angsty teenage pee pants type.
Here are a few tips on character creation. Please keep in mind that impressing your friends is NOT an issue when thinking up your oh so special person. Being 'original' is also not an issue. Lets face it, originality is dead. But moreover, this is something or someone you want to be, and enjoy being in this fantasy world of ours. Don't force yourself to be something everyone else likes...
1. Strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has them, every character needs them. Try your damndest to balance them out. Seriously guys. Your character should not be all powerful.
2. Don't blatantly copy someone else. Really, that one needs no explanations.
3. When thinking up a background or plot to your character, don't involve others unless they asked to be or agreed to be involved. The whole 'Don't I know you from somewhere?' thing doesn't work very well if the person hasn't a s**t of a clue what you're talking about.
4. When you make a story, stick with it. If you want to use said character in different 'universes', then you can adapt them accordingly, but don't decide "well this isn't working out for me" and completely change your character on the spot. This has the potential to go very sour if there's already an RP and the character magically changes into a transvestite with a bad attitude and a dead lover from a happy schoolboy.

So now you kids know the lingo and how to strut your stuff! Good job! You're probably thinking "I'm a tough mo'fo' now. No one can mess with me!"
And you'd be a dead suckah if this was real life. There's one person you will never be able to stand up to, who can crush you with one finger and break all rules stated above if they so desire. These are MODs.
Like an RP director in a Metaplot, Mod's are the police and traffic conductors of this place.
Look, instead of just piddly-dicking around this one, I'll just say it right up front.
DON'T MESS WITH THE MODS.
They're not your parents. Saying "That's not fair!" or "I don't care what you say!" Will NOT fly.
However, suggestions, when phrased nicely, are sometimes considered. If you think you know of a solution that might satisfy both parties, don't be afraid to say something. Just remember they have every right to say 'No.'
After this, you may think Mod's are spawns of satan meant to make your lives miserable, but this is as far from the truth as can be. They're there to ensure everyone has fun and no one is left out. To make sure that no one is taken advantage of and there are fair chances for everything. Mod's are your best friends. So don't be afraid of them.

DISCLAIMER This is not meant to offend anybody, it's supposed to be funny. So please don't march in here saying how butthurt you are. If you've done some of these things, it's okay. Most of us have because we didn't know they were wrong in the first place. Just please learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others. Be a SPONGE.
If you want, you can post saying you've read all this and you're not a poop head. For the oldbies, you probably already know better but it's always fun to listen to my HIGHLARIOUS musings.
But this is also serious at the same time. If you happen to commit one of said crimes above, there's no excuse. You've been warned. [Don't be afraid to RP because you read this though. You know, so you probably won't make these mistakes now.]
