Hi everyone! A lot of times a mention stuff like the 4th age, the 3rd the 2nd or 1st age. Just to clear stuff up: 1st age=man was not even a major power The Elven Kingdom above just sank. Were new here 2nd age=Sauron was defeated in this one, but Isildur kept the ring 3rd age=The War of the Ring 4th age= Aragorn is king and all that remains are scattered orcs and wild men
Any questions? Please post them HERE.

skelecore So these are all in terms as such like centeries? Except there called 1st age, 2nd age... ect? yes but an age was a lot longer than a century. For example, Legolas lived in the 2nd age, then his grandfather died, and his dad became king

One question (I have yet to read the books, btw), are the ages short or was there a short time between The War of the Ring (3rd age) and the 4th one?

I think the books end at the end of the War of the Ring, right? Would that be the end of the 3rd age?

vfmacfan I think the books end at the end of the War of the Ring, right? Would that be the end of the 3rd age? People would have the ages change whenever something BIG happens. Like Sauron dying for GOOD. And yes it would.

Lexie Red One question (I have yet to read the books, btw), are the ages short or was there a short time between The War of the Ring (3rd age) and the 4th one? Well the 3rd started...I think basically before book 1. And no there is no inbetween period as far as I know.

The ages in Middle Earth aren't set times at all. They're pretty much the same as the ages that are used to describe history e.g. The Classical Age, Middle Ages, Renaissance etc. If you look at the appendices in the back of the Return of the King, in Appendix B, it's explained fairly well.
