Phobos really didn't care for the two youngsters playing before him. He didn't really care for others at all. Unless they were giving him something he wanted. He gave a sigh and curled up beneath a tree, not even trying to get a nap. Sekani and Kallisto were too noisy.
Sekani squealed in joy. He had another playmate! He couldn't wait to show her off to Daliah! The three of them would have a lot of fun together. Giving a fake roar, he pounced on Kallisto and tackled her to the ground. "Mwahaha! I GOTCHU KALLY!"
Kallisto squeaked in surprise. She had been watching Phobos when Sekani pounced her. "Nuuu!!! Kani! Get off! You'll ruin my hair!" She wriggled out from beneath Sekani and tried to push him away, only succeeding in pushing herself down.

Sarlia Perched on a nearby fence. Her eyes examining the trio of Gems with a keen sort of look. One was slightly transparent in his appearance and seemed disinterested in the goings on around him, the second male had goggles on his head, A clothing item. not as intricate as her own dress...but...something a little similar, and then there was a young female running around. Shaking her head hair flowng a little, and head feathers fluffing, she simply watched, looking somewhat like a blue vulture.

Adelaide was lucky again that she escaped the confines of her vast mansion to take a flight. Carrying under her poncho she also held her little gem that she had adopted as a sister. Unhatched still, Addy thought some fresh air would do well for the unborn critter in growing up. Fortune was also on her side as she spotted familiar faces and landed a ways away, approaching the most familiar, which was the oldest of the small trio. "Mornings to thee, sir Phobos. Hath thee a new little one whom seeks thee to watch over? The little female is not of familiarity to I. Sir Sekani however seems very much well aquainted with the new little one." She saide quickly, bowing her head in greeting as tradition in her lineage.
Rei however, didn't take to the larger group. She instead, was more interested in the lone, and quite elaborately attired female on the fence, a curious gaze in her eyes. Even the hair was more styled than that of her own. Though not uncommon for critters to wear clothing and have their hair changed, this was alittle beyond the norm, and piqued Rei's interest. "You have an interest in the many below?" She asked in her quiet, monotonous voice, her bloody gaze undetered and concentrated, though not so much cold as one would expect.

Phobos barely looked up as Adelaide spoke to him. He shrugged in answer to her question. "I suppose that's why she was placed with me. Sekani could make friends with a log." He glanced over at the two playing and then laid his head back down, fluttering his wings a little.
Sekani pouted when Kallisto pushed herself away. "Why don't you wanna play, Kally?" He turned to look at Phobos and saw him talking to Adelaide. "ADDY!" He ran over to her and hugged her. "Hi! How are you? Ooh what's that?" He pointed to the bump beneath Adelaide's poncho.
Kallisto sighed. "Cuz you're gonna mess up my hair...And I told you not to call me that! My name is Kallisto!" She rolled her eyes as Sekani left. She didn't want to go anywhere Sekani was so she looked around and saw two older female gems and decided to go meet them. Someone had to appreciate her. Picking up the pace, she went and sat down between Sarlia and Rei. "Hello! I'm Kallisto. What are your names?" She cocked her head to the side and smiled.

Adelaide gave a curious look as Phobos talked of Sekani, but before she could answer, she suddenly heard her name, and a pair of legs wrap themselves around her midsection. With a gentle laugh, Adelaide laid a paw ontop of Sekani's head and patted him gently. "A good morning to thee too, sir Sekani. I hold much good fortune this day and in return it hath brought forth a joyous feeling. May I ask how of thee, dear?" She replied, smiling brightly. However, a curious look crossed her eyes as Sekani asked of the bump beneath her poncho, and she giggled lightly, gently reaching into the blue cloth and extracting the small, green gem with a darker green butterfly design, and gray feathers potruding from it's shell.
"It is but mine little sibling, sir Sekani. It hath yet to hatch into the gem as you, but the time should soon come. It hath been quite long since I myself hath retrieved it from the lonely orphanage it was abandoned to." She explained, as the little gem shimmered brightly, and then wobbled alittle in Adelaide's paw, making her blink curiously. "My.. it hath not done such since I retrieved it. Perhaps it will hatch soon? Do you believe so sir Sekani?"
Rei's concentrated gaze shifted as Kallisto appeared between her and the female critter. She observed the littler gem carefully, her dark red eyes scanning over the pattern across the younger female, before she answered, once again in her monotone manner. "Good morning to you, Kallisto. You may call me Rei." And then looked to the other female again for her answer to both their inquiries.

She had been regarding the other female before hand and was about to answer when the young female gem had popped up between them. Her eyes narrowed at the dirt colored creature, a serene sort of look to her face. To answer the question before, I was looking to the male gem with headgear on. An attraction of the curious sort. And to answer you little one I am called Sarlia. She wasn't so much a snob as she had trouble socializing. Most of the gems within her mistress's house were...different. They tended to be unusual, and almost incapable of interaction with others of their kind, due to their rarity.

Phobos watched Sekani and Adelaide with slight interest. He'd never seen a gem hatch, it might prove interesting to watch.
He let go of Adelaide. "I'm alright!" Sekani stared wide eyed at the gem as it wobbled and nodded. "I hope so! I wanna watch it hatch!" His rear wiggled in excitement. He wouldn't take his eyes off the gem until it hatched. He was so curious about the birth of new gems.
Kallisto nodded. "Nice to meet you both," she said quietly, suddenly feeling very small in the presence of the older gems. "His name is Sekani." She rolled her eyes. "He's really annoying." She shook her hair a little, watching out of the corners of her eyes how it fell.

Adelaide giggled lightly as Sekani watched excitedly. She herself was really just as excited, a giddy feeling lighting up her heart as she set down the little gem on the grass. She couldn't think of a better place for it to hatch, in the outside world, the world where she longed to be able to fly free in. Watching intently as the gem wiggled abit, and the feathers ruffled softly, as if alive, a small crack appeared at the tip of the gem, making Adelaide almost, almost gasp in delight.
Rei nodded abit, having noticed the rare female's gaze trained mostly on the lively pink male. "Yes. Many do not go to the extent of adorning themselves. Though I see you are much more elaborately dressed than he." Rei noted, quiet, yet not critical. Merely a statement of the truth to spur curiosity and conversation. Again though, her gaze shifted to the youngest, and gave a nod of her head, the bloody red gem on her forehead showing itself slightly beneath her long and unusual bangs. "The pleasure is mine. Kallisto was it? You don't seem to favor this.. Sekani, critter. How does he bother you?"
It was pretty sure that the group down with the little cracking gem was unaware of the three others, the gem having drawn their attention with the hatching of a new critter. The small crack that had formed slowly began getting larger, splitting the gem in half nearly perfectly, before a splitting sound disrupted the slow cracking, and the gem fell apart to peices that almost looked as if they evaporated, a small, green female tumbling out of the now nonexsistant shell, wide emerald eyes blinking curiously as the little one scrambled up onto all fours, it's tiny gray and white wings fluffing up and out, as did her matching hair.
The young critter cast a curious gaze at Adelaide and Sekani, a darker green butterfly pattern across her face, so that it looked as if the little one had thrown on a mask. Making a few cute noises in curiosity, the little one stumbled its way toward Adelaide and Sekani, being much smaller than both of them, and of course, uncoordinated being a newborn little critter.

She stared at the two before her, and felt oddly uncomfortable, something was happening and she could feel it, she turned just as the small gem with the Princess hatched. Her feathers ruffled and she stared at the new born. It was tiny, as were all newborns.
Acting on instinct, Sarlia gave a celebratory howling noise, that sounded far more lyrical than howl like. Her head feathers and wing feathers fluffed out, the noise joyous at a new life having formed.

Phobos gave a slight jump when the gem split in two, but other than that he looked disinterested like always.
Sekani squeaked when the gem split. "Addy!!! IT'S HATCHING!" He exclaimed as he watched, wiggling his rear faster as it hatched. When the little gem fell out of the pieces, Sekani watched in amazement as the tiny thing ambled towards Adelaide. "She's so cute!!"
Kallisto preened a little under Rei's scrutiny. She couldn't help it, her vanity wouldn't let her. When she asked about Sekani, Kallisto wrinkled her nose a bit in irritation. "He always wants to play, but he plays too roughly." It was then that she heard Sekani exclaim over the gem and she turned to watch just as Sarlia began her howl. A wave of appreciation passed over her as she looked at the little thing and smiled softly.

Rei gave a curious look as Kallisto preened, and gave a few blinks as Kallisto explained her dislike of Sekani. "Rough play is natural of a young critter such as he. Do not take to too much disliking, it is unwise and unhealthy for the soul, though I understand your view." Rei replied rather simply, before turning her attention also, to the scene below, blinking again, in her mysterious silent manner as she witnessed a hatching. The hatching gave a warm feeling to Rei, despite her usual cold demeanor, and she joined in with Sarlia's howl, her own being whispy, ominous, yet joyful nonetheless, letting her dark wings spread to their full length.
Adelaide watched in pure amazement as the little critter toddled up to her, and she lowered her head to it, the young one bumping into her nose curiously, before nuzzling into Addy's face. Giving a light giggle, Addy gently raised her head again and allowed the little critter to stumble and curl around her paws. "Oh it is most joyful this feeling! Mine youngest sister now hath life and is most curious! Oh she hath need of a name as well! Perhaps Cosette sir Sekani, sir Phobos? What doth thee think of such a name for the young one of which whose fur is such a lively grassy color?" However, soon enough, Adelaide noticed a ringing in her ear, and she turned to the three up upon the hill, noticing two female adults she did not know with Kallisto. she gave a bright smile in noticing this and a cheery giggle as the little critter scampered around her paws again.
Being curious by nature, the little newborn crawled around Adelaide's paws, flopping over into the soft grass several times as she did, and gazing up curiously at Sekani and Phobos, and also at the other three at the hilltop. A few squeaks and the little critter tripped over Addy's paw and flopped onto its back, blinking curiously but seeming to giggle at her own clumsiness.

Sarlia's howl lasted for a few moments longer, then slowly faded. Sighing she smiled towards Rei, "I am glad I am not the only one who felt it necessary to keep such a tradition alive. Though I do not know if you knew it was that." The smile on her face was almost beaming. Seeing another generation of Gem born was an amazing transition from egg to living being. Though they lived contently in their bejeweled cage, it was something of a triumph to break free from it.
Though, Sarlia did not remember her own birth, she had seen several newborns in her time with her human mistress, several of them had become adults because her mistress had found them the right home.

Phobos shrugged as the howling on the hilltop stung his ears. They could call the little thing whatever they wanted. "I suppose it's as good a name as any," he said. Sekani giggled as he watched the little green critter stumble and look around. "I think that's a great name, Addy!" he exclaimed. Laying on the ground so he could look closely at Cosette, he smiled. "Hi there, little one! Little Cosette! Aren't you so cute..." he cooed at her. Kallisto watched Cosette for a few more moments befure she turned to the older gems. "What is the tradition?" she asked curiously. She'd never heard of such, but then she was a fairly new gem herself.

Rei looked at Sarulia, her howl having died out before the other rare critter's, being that Rei was never one to be loud or strong with her voice. "I have been many places, and many places it has died, though I have found it still lives amoung certain. I choose to keep it alive, as when one thing becomes undone, a new will rise." She stated quite mysteriously, before turning to Kallisto. "To howl when a new critter is born into the world, young one. It expresses joy of a new life, and the harmony that comes with life and death." She said, stating her knowledge of the fading tradition.
Adelaide beamed as Phobos and Sekani agreed with her, and then she laughed as the little critter flopped over her paws again. "Oh Cosette! How beautiful it is to hath a new life in this world! She shines, see here, sir Sekani? She shines wiht much life and spirit! A miracle that cannot be forgotten!" She exclaimed brightly, watching the little critter explore her new legs and roll around in the grass.
Cosette blinked as she became the center of attention, the howls and eyes upon her flattering her birth, and she giggled with the escasty. She had gotten pretty used to her legs, though obviously still quite clutzy, and falling over many times to be nudged up by Addy's paws. She blinked at Sekani's cooing, and hopped toward him too, but tripping and tumbling into his nose, wiggling and scampering about, curious to her new world, chirping and squeaking lightly.

It was pleasant to know that at least one other gem knew of the tradition, and now it was spread out a little more for the youngling knew of it as well. Sarlia watched quietly, not wanting to really become part of the picture, but she enjoyed the company so far. Her eyes watched contently as Kallisto was instructed as to the tradition by Rei, and smiled.
"If that doesn't make sense, it's a little like announcing to the world that a new gem has arrived. It's meant to be an introduction as such, voicing the parents joy of having their offspring hatch." She thought back to a few of the research papers her mistress had done, "Seemingly it's a tradition that died out once we started being collected as...rare gems. We were somewhat a...pack species, so it was a celebration to mark the new members of the pack who would learn and carry on the traditions." She sighed, she was an older gem, but she herself hadn't come from a pack...she was...rare and unusual, influenced by her owner's eccentric personality.
