Ok. So first possibility, timeline/genre. First suggestion (by Aicen) is a modern fantasy. Any other preferences?

Okay... going with the modern fantasy idea (feel free to pitch other ideas, I'm just thinking), what kind of fantasy aspects are we thinking of? creatures? magic? both? Is it common knowledge that one/both of these exist?

Theres some merit to an organisation keeping the fantasy aspect secret as a plot device. But I think it might be harder to keep that going and keep it viable. Kind of 'Sanctuary'-esque.

Also, should there be a definate 'evil' side, or is it a conflict due to ignorance or something? If there is an evil faction, should it be the 'human' side, the 'fantasy' side or a coalition?

Now, the following was not created by myself, I was looking around in barton town and found this but the creator of the premise was going in a different direction. Theres earth, with a 99.9% human population, and then there's another planet/dimension. Humans find a technological way of reaching the other side (stargate-esque). Here is where theres a lot of room for customization. Would humans try colonizing the new (habitable and inhabited) world, much to the dismay of its inhabitants? Another direction would be seeing the 'supernatural' advatages of the local species, the human organisation collects specimens for research or for a 'super soldier' training program, and members of the other dimension search for ways of getting back their lost loved ones? Are the inhabitants of this other dimension aggressive/feel threatened and attack earth?

Other suggestions are very welcome and encouraged, we don't have to use any of this, as I said I'm just thinking.

Actually why not make the driving force for the reason that people are ignorant of magic be their own well... willful ignorance. I mean how many people actively write off something weird with a rational explanation then forget about it.

I do like that Idea though. It would let me bring back Aicen. Who i still Love but haven't really found an Rp that would let me play him because well with Aicen comes Aicen's son.

That could work well. And it accounts for the inevitable realisation that magic/creatures exist and allows it to be part of the plot. Nice 3nodding

Hmm, how about for the angels we make it a religious theme but have 'god' be a avatar of a certain aspect of nature And one of Many, who took over and established themselves as 'god' with the 'angels' and 'demons' servants that have been doing it for so long that they now belive that they are truly angels and demons?

-mumble-

Ok...well, my idea with creatures are angels that are independent from a deity...I haven't come up with an idea as to why or how that ties into the ideas that everyone else is already formulating, but I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I figure it out. ...o.o Or I'll leave that for you guys to work out together...

I kind of like the idea of the angels/demons forgetting their actual reality and substituting human perception, but again with a 'force of nature', there might be a problem with the ending. If 'humanity' wins and the force is either destroyed or subjugated, then that pretty much means the end of the world, the other option seems to be that humanity is erased. Or there is a peaceful resolution. The only problem with the peaceful option would be its finicky-ness. Humanity would have to prove it deserves to survive, and I ask myself daily whether or not it is, I don't have an answer... @_@.

Actually i was thinking... make the 'force of nature' immortal so that they couldn't die.
And that they are not the only ones.
One person might be the aspect of 'battle'
while another could be 'knowledge'.

So that in the end there's no 'win' or 'lose' there's only 'deal with it as best you can'

mmmm that sounds a bit dangerous. Those playing the 'aspects' would be overpowered... unless they can't have direct influence. I'm open to the suggestion of a pantheon or set of deities, but I really think they shouldn't be able to directly act. They would start the ball rolling, yes, but having a god that doesn't like you throw lightning at you is kind of a 'game over' moment. And I think having multiple divinities might work better in an earlier time period.

Alright. I was thinking that they were far less over powered than that also.

...I'm rather afraid of having deities period. It seems rather risky to have people playing "god complex" characters because of the vast powers they're supposed to have. Isn't there a way to work the RP away from the need of a Super Power, so to speak?
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:38 pm

aye, I agree. Having a 'god' character is just asking for some god-moding. sweatdrop

So. If we keep the angel and/or demon idea, what would the driving force be? A leader? A religion of that species?

I think we should also try to think of other 'fantasy' aspects that could be used, whether or not angels/demons are the chosen creatures in the end.

Maybe all deities should be NPC's. It will ad a cultural context to the role play.

The driving force is the idea I'm trying to come up with right now.

I don't really know right now, to be honest. Recognition, maybe? If the humans are intent on being ignorant to the existence of magic and/or magical creatures? -shrugs-

Other fantasy aspects...I'll come up with those sooner or later. x_x Need to think!

Well... NPC's would reduce the risk, but it would still exist. The problem with that though, is who controls them? everyone? If everyone controls the same few gods, then it becomes harder to keep to a known personality. One player might think that the NPC would react in this way, but another would disagree... I've read stories where the inclusion of a pantheon was both rewarding and developed the culture of the story's world... but I think it might be hard to do when there are many authors like in a roleplay. Perhaps there WAS a pantheon, that used to directly interact with the populace, but has since left the world? That way any mention of the gods would be past-tense and unable to directly alter the story in a strictly damaging way?
