Well.... For me, I personally believe it is not a day for celebration. If we would go back in time and find out the roots for Halloween, I promise you that it would shock you. It was based on satanic rituals and human sacrifices on that day. And somehow, through the ages, the world was cunning enough to make it to look like child's play thing; when in reality, something to draw us into bondage. But when I look through the Word, it is not harmless as we think.
This might take a while to explain, because if you ask anyone that knows me well, I love to take things apart and share light on it through the Word. Because overall, we can argue with it, because it has been a debate for at least a century. I am not going to exhaust the debate, but to prove it (Means to test it and to concern it) and we must hold fast to which are good. (1 Thess. 5:21) So I will break up Halloween up into several parts and see what the Word says. You can be amazed that the Bible (Which was written around 2,000 years ago) can still say about most of everyday issues of today, because through the Word, we can see what God's heart is on the matter.
Trick or Treat
This is a common phrase of young children to go up to the door and to expect candy. Let's take a look at the word "Trick." It means a mean, foolish, or childish action; a roguish or mischievous act; practical joke; prank.
The word "trick" refers to a "threat" to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. I believe that doesn't sound very Christian, does it? I know that many people doesn't do that after they failed to receive any treat. But do we even realizing what we are saying?
Next is the treat part. This I will talk about the candy. No, I am not saying that eating candy is wrong, but I have observed over the years that gluttony plays a major part of Halloween.
Gluttony means a person who eats and drinks excessively or voraciously; a person with a remarkably great desire or capacity for something. Gluttony doesn't mean that you eat and eat all of the time. It can happen in one night.
A child goes from his house with nothing and comes back with 1 or more bags of candy, sometimes 3 or 4. You know, this is the best night of the year. There are houses everywhere. I have to get all of the candy that I can. That is gluttony because you have a great desire to get all of the candy you can. Not only gluttony, but also discontentment. Because no matter how much candy you get, you still want more.
Costumes
You know, I can have fun with this one. But more on a serious note, why do we want to dress up like demons, ghosts, or other satanic creatures? I just really don't understand it. Jesus delivered us from it, so it seems like our hearts want to go back to the way of the World. It seems like it to me. I know that most will say "Well.... It is harmless and it is just all make believe."
In Psalms, it is written, "I will not walk the path of the wicked." It means "I will not follow the World" or "I will not be conformed unto this World." This world is heading for destruction, so why do we want to walk in their path when the path to Glory is laid out in front of us that was bought for by the blood of Jesus?
And it seems very interesting to me that costumes does affect a child more than we realize. Just imagine with me. Let's say that you take your son and dress him up to look like a devil or a witch or something like it, when he grows older, he would be fascinated by it or he will practice things like he was at a young age.
In Proverbs, it says to train up a child that when he is old, he shall not depart from it. Because whatever the child practices in his youth will more than often lead to more heavy and more demonic materials when he is older. Why is that? Because the child will learn and will catch on much more than we know.
Also, much of these costumes are either satanic or involves with witchcraft. Devils, ghosts, witches, goblins, you name it. It is giving anyone eternal peace and joy. I believe it is the devil's high day to come out and capture the hearts of children all around the World. That's his goal. And we want to dress up to look like the defeated foe himself?
Fear
Fear is what this holiday is based upon. Haunted houses, creepy costumes, scary movies, and so forth. This whole holiday is just engulfed with fear. But did you know, fear is actually a sin? Yes, there may be something that we are afraid of, but that is our own flesh.
In the Bible (Not sure where), it says that we should only fear the Lord. But that is a whole different kind of fear than what we used to. Fear the Lord means to stand in awe at His Greatness, that we love Him that we would respect Him.
But if we are afraid, we are not trusting the Lord. That is why fear is actually against the Word of God. And Halloween is full of it.
Witchcraft
Another highlight of Halloween. Like I stated before, most of the costumes does involved with witchcraft. Witchcraft is part of the works of the flesh, and it says whosoever committed these acts shall not inherit eternal life.
Now I know what you might be thinking, it is all make believe. But why even pretend to be apart of the World and still be a Christian? That is a scary thing. A Christian pretending like the World. But that's just it, it is impossible. We cannot continue our Spiritual Walk if we have one foot inside the World.
So we have Ouija boards, saiounces, and many other Satanic games. I have counseled quite a few people. They say that they cannot go on in their Christian Life and they are not sure what they can do. So we discuss for about an hour until I asked him, "Did you play with a Ouija board?"
They scoffed and laughed as they said, "Well.... Yeah, but it doesn't matter. It is all make believe and I do not believe in it anyways." I get that response, many times. But here is the thing, I often say to the individual to get on their knees and denounce it in Jesus' name, they cannot even say Lord.
But when they do denounce it in Jesus' Christ name, they finally can pray. Hallelujah! But why is that? Because I believe they were bound up by all of the nonsense of a "harmless" game and unknowingly invited the devil to come into their life.
So that is just some of my views on Halloween. I could go on, but I think I will stop for now. I tend to ramble on and on for hours if I do not watch it. So anyways, God bless everyone richly! ^^
