 The orange and black butterfly fluttered silently from one white flower to the next, oblivious to the fact it was being watched. Uncurling the long straw of its mouth, it dipped it into the middle of the flower.
Suddenly, a yellow paw shot out at it. Whether by the owner's fault or on purpose, it landed besides the butterfly, making the flower sway violently and the little creature jump back into the air. It did a little flip before going higher and away into the distance.
The bright blue and yellow wolf laying in the grass watched it go with some disappointment on her face. Now who was she going to play with?

 Not too far away, a young pup had been pouncing on bugs as he explored the large grassy area. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something blue and yellow move. He quickly spun, but the older Hollow was once again hidden in the grass. Wondering what he'd seen, he trotted in that direction. "Is anyone there?"

Still hidden down in the grass, Chara lifted her head just enough to see who had spoken. Which didn't mean her whole head could be seen. Her eyes looked out from spaces between the grass near the tips, her ears in plain view turning around at all the noises around her.
"Just me," came the small reply from the grass. She rose a little bit more out of the grass so she could be seen easier by the new creature. "Who are you?"

He grinned a puppyish grin. "Hi! I'm Lleu, who are you?" he asked as he trotted up to her. He crouched down a little ways out, his tail wagging as he got ready, and... POUNCED! Well, mock-pounced, anyway, intentionally landing just short of her.

Chara opened her mouth to answer, but he suddenly pounced! Jumping to her feet, she prepared to hop backwards to escape the confrontation...
When he landed in front of her. Not on her, like she was expecting. Flicking her tail from side to side in excitement at the playful attitude, she crouched down.
"I'm Chara," she answered with a broad grin on her face. This guy knew how to enjoy himself. She liked him already.

"Hi, Chara! I'm Lleu," he announced proudly, as he crouched down as if to pounce again, but clearly not actually planning to. "Are you playing with the bugs, too? There's so many, and they're great fun. The scurry away if you pounce on them! A few bite, though." He gave a small frown at that... one of his paws was still sore.

"Hello, Lleu!" she answered, moving her paw over more towards her face to push down some tall blades of grass. "I found a pretty butterfly, but it flew too high in the sky for me to catch it." For a moment, the disappointment of earlier flashed across her face before it was gone in another smile at the pup's enthusiasm. So many Hollows could learn from this little guy. They were all too serious. Worrying too much about food and protection. They needed to live a little.
"Yeah, you shouldn't touch the black and yellow ones that buzz. They hurt. And the stinger gets stick in your skin." She shuddered to remember her first and last experience with one of those bugs. It had taken a long time to get it out of her side. "The butterflies are fun, though. And the dragonflies. And chasing the water spiders."

"Oh, I love water spiders! Even if you miss them, you get a big splash, and sometimes mud goes everywhere." He grinned a big puppy grin. "Sure, I get in trouble when I go home for being all covered in mud, but then I get a bath, which is always fun. Do you like baths?"

Chara's tail wagged faster. "Water spiders are my favorite! I even had one crawl onto my nose, once. It tickled." As if to emphasize her point, she wiggled her nose a few times. "Oh, yes. Baths are fun! Splashing water everywhere and getting everything else wet!"

Lleu laughed. "Especially the person trying to wash you! I always soak my mom, and she gets so annoyed... But then she ends up playing with me, and we get bubbles everywhere, and it's so much fun." He started to bounce around, tail wagging. "You know what? We should go find some water, and maybe chase some water spiders!"

The bright blue wolf raised herself until she stood straight. She cocked her head a little at the little pup, hopping around in front of her. "I wish my mother had done that. She was too serious." This was the reason she was so much like a child as an adult. Because she was deprived of it as a pup. Now that she was on her own and didn't have to follow the rules of anyone else, she wanted to have as much fun as she could before she was forced to settle down into a family of her own. Something she wasn't opposed against, but something she didn't want too soon.
At the mention of finding some water, her ears perked up. "Oh, yes," she agreed, already starting to turn back towards the forest. "I think I know where a pond is close by. Follow me!" And without waiting for an answer, she bounded off into the woods, knowing he would follow her. Any Hollow with the sense of play wouldn't be able to pass this chance up.

The pup jumped to his feet and chased after her. "Hey, no fair!" he shouted, running as fast as his puppy-short legs could go. It was all he could do to keep her in sight; luckily, he figured out before too long where she was headed. He still didn't like being behind, not in anything that even remotely resembled a race, but try as he might he couldn't catch up. By the time they reached the pond, he was completely worn out, and he collapsed beside the water.

In her excitement, Chara forgot about the shorter legs of puppies. Not until she stopped by the pond and placed a paw in to test the temperature did she notice. When he dropped down besides her, she bent over and nuzzled her muzzle against his side and licked his ear in apology. Then dived into the water, splashing the grass and bushes surrounded the bank.
The water was deeper where she jumped, enough that she had to paddle a few inches to reach the bottom. But she'd also taken a huge jump. Jumping was her strength. Coming back to the edge, the water only reached her knees, where it stayed at that dept until it suddenly dropped off at the end of the lily-pads. "Come in," she said. "It will cool you off."

After he'd caught his breath for a moment, Lleu struggled to his feet and toddled towards the water, still breathing hard. She was right, though; as soon as he got in, it felt wonderful, what with him overheating from running so hard. He paddled over, water up to her knees was close to over his head. "This is a little deep for pouncing water bugs... what do you want to do instead?"

"Yeah. It looked smaller from the distance." Looking around her, Chara thought for a moment. It indeed didn't look this deep from back there. It wasn't a very wide body of water, but it was deep. Far too deep for even an adult to play in. Or bath. Then something further down caught her eye.
Trotting towards it in the water to make sure she wasn't mistaken, again, she looked back over her shoulder with a wolfish smile on her face. "There is a smaller pond down here. I can see the bottom."
