User Image

Serving Size: 2 per weiner

Ingrediants/Tools:
~Hot Dog
~Knife (Sharp enough to cut the hotdog)
~Pot of boiling water

Directions:
User Image

1. Cut the hot dog in half.
2. Cut the octopus legs using the chart above.
3. Take of the middle section (the part with all the diagonal lines) Be very careful! The legs are extremally fragile.
4. Put a pretty face on your octopus.
5. Boil the hot dog as normal, the legs should curl up.
6. Enjoy. ^^

arrow Jinxies Variation! I cut the hot dogs in half and then in a star/asterisk shape >>* Personally, I prefer to fry them with a little bit of butter after they're cooked instead of boiling them! I think it helps the legs curl better smile I have an octo-dog cutter, but I typically use my knife to cut it instead! Imo its better to give it 6 legs than 8 cuz I always mess it up and cut one of them too small, but try your luck! This is how mine turned out 4laugh I used pepper corns for the eyes, but took them out before I ate them sweatdrop You can also use black sesame seeds or whatever you think will work well!

So thats how you cut it :O! I failed when I tried to make this, so I stopped trying. Now I feel enlightened 8D! I wanted to use the red sausages like these, but I can't find them in any grocery store D:

I've always fried hot dogs or microwaved. How long would you boil a hot dog shaped like an octopus?

I know I boil real baby octo's about 10 seconds on a rolling boil, each.

@Misty, Since most hot dogs are precooked, about 3 min or so should be sufficient.

@Evilncute, I'm so happy I could help out! Your bento looks great, thanks for sharing biggrin

this might be jinx's variation (i didn't quite understand the directions for thaat so sorry if this is a repeat), but the way i learned to make them came from the copy of the manga cookbook i have:
cut the ends off a hotdog (or just cut it in half if you want longer legs for the octopus), then cut the bottom (the un-rounded part) up about halfway up the piece (too high and it'll fall apart). do that 3 more times, so you have 8 little legs (it's ok if one leg turns out smaller than the others, who's going to notice but you?). after that, you can boil or microwave them, but frying them in a little oil in a pan usually results in a more flavourful hotdog. -w-

also, if you cut the ends off, you're left with that awkward middle part...but never fear!! if you cut that piece in half, then make 2 little cuts on each end and fry, you can have crab sausages too! ^^

heeere's a diagram showing how to make the octopus and crab hot dogs i described >>;
