Hello everyone! Like the thread title? lol. Anyways, this is a discussion thread about poke balls. Regular poke balls, master balls, special poke balls, anything you want to say any of them please do here. Below I will post several topic questions to get things rolling along.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:30 pm

1. Should you be able to make poke balls from apricorns? This could mean special poke balls or normal poke balls even.

2. Should specialized poke balls even be allowed in this RP? Ex. A Nest Ball, Net Ball, Luxury Ball, or Timer Ball.

3. If yes, how should these be acquired? Should you be able to make them from apricorns? Should there be some special NPC you have to go to for them? Should you need to buy them from PokeMarts are very expensive prices? Ex. Only one specialized poke ball on your person at a time.

4. What about the other generic types of poke balls? Great Balls, Ultra Balls, & Master Balls? What are your thoughts, feelings, view, and or comments on these?

Ok well as for my answers, I am going to go out of order here.

#4: Personally I am satisfied with us only have regular poke balls and no Great Balls or Ultra Balls, with Master Balls being something you can only receive from Jeff. I am fine with the existence of Safari Balls in Safari plains though.

#2: As for specialized poke balls, I am fine with them being a part of the RP. I would want a lot of restrictions and rules over them though.

#3: I would be fine with being able to buy them in PokeMarts as long as every RPer can only carry one of any specialized poke ball at a time.

#1: Ok this I need your guy's help for. I would say that IF any poke ball can be created by RPers through apricorns then it can ONLY be regular poke balls and not specialized poke balls. That is a big if I leave to you though. Should you be able to create your own basic poke ball?

#1 Firstly you make poke balls from apricorns. Second, i think Poke ball technology is something that no ordinary pokemon trainer should know how to make from scratch. Modern Poke balls most likely consists of technology more complicated than we imagine. The game makes it seem easy but i think in reality (at least in the pokemonverse) it's a lot harder.

Apricorn pokeballs on the other hand maybe be able to be learned by Rpers but no one could learn it on his/her own. I assume that the art of making pokeballs from APRICORNS is a special trade (much like how baking, woodwork and etc were in the old days. One would need a master to teach them how to use the pokeballs. I doubt the knowledge in doing so is not freely available in the pokeverse.

#2 I'm okay with specialized pokeballs being in the RP. the only pokeballs not applicable to the RP would be the Timer ball (depends on number of turns of battles) and Repeat Ball (Depends if you have caught that pokemon before) as both wouldn't make sense

#3 I suggest they be treated as special items that must be earned by some sort of quests. Even in the anime special pokeballs are rare and barely used. I think 2 specialized poke balls should be fine as having only one would be a bit disappointing.

#4 The other generic types can be allowed. Only thought is that They are more expensive and still as rare as specialized ones.

Other views.

Poke Balls used to be made from APRICORNS. I guess before electrical technology, people had made a method of turning them into pokeballs. Other cases have used a giant rock for catching large and heavy pokemon but that was primitive.

Normal Poke balls are factory produced and subsequent specialized pokeballs are as well. Devon Corp. is one such company that manufactures poke balls

Specialized poke balls are most likely more expensive. Think about your RP character. In the games and anime money is no problem but you have to remember in our RP, money is earned in a realistic manner. So think of it this way: Will i use (1) a more expensive pokeball with a higher catch rate to ensure to catch a pokemon or (2) weaken said pokemon until it passes out and use a generic cheap pokeball? Which one do you think is better when traveling?

Hmm I kind of agree with you Cal. I think that the art of making poke balls from apricorns should be something not widely known. As for modern poke balls I don't think that they are made from apricorns anymore. I think we have the industrial revolution to thank for that. They are probably mass produced out of plastic and metal. I would think the only reason why it is not commonly known how to make your own poke balls is because it is a forgotten talent. Nobody needs to know anymore.

Yeah the Timer and Repeat ball should be out.

What kinds of quests do you suggest? I think having only one specialized poke ball is fair. It gives you that bonus chance to catch what you really want without going on a hack successful catching spree.

Cal, in your last paragraph, I think #1 and #2 both work. Normally you would battle a wild Pokemon down until it is K.O.'ed and then you catch it with a normal ball but if there is something you really want and your own Pokemon just aren't getting it weak enough, you have that one special ball to get the job done.

I think all pokeballs should be allowed except timer and repeat, as explained above.

Trainers shouldnt be able to make them since its very hard.

A trainer could carry 1 or 2 of the special ones, since it up to us to make the probabilities of catching pokemon since we are the ones who write, not some computer or mechanic device that counts the probabilities like in the games or so.

You should be able to buy them but just like the TMs, only one at a time, with some money you got from a quest or gyms ( legal or one of those that are waiting for aproval). In some special quests you should be able to get them too, or to buy them at cheaper prices at Jeff

Alright it looks like it is pretty widely believed that poke balls custom or not, should be bought and not made. I will have it so that poke balls can be custom bought. You can buy specialty balls and normal balls.

Ok I looked over all of the poke balls in the Pokemon world. I have made a list of all the poke balls I am comfortable with RPers being able to buy or have made for them.

Dive, Fast, Great, Heavy, Lure, Luxury, Net, Premium, Safari, and Ultra.

There will be other poke balls than these included in the RP but they will be presented later on for various reasons. Example, a Master ball can be bought from Jeff the Traveling Wanderer.
