The young male walked...he had wandered off from his mother and chances were, she was going spastic, freaking out trying to find him. Now why did he wander off? Well...he wanted to find his father. He only got a glimpse of him before....but...he really wanted to get to know him. To make him be proud he's his son. So he was looking for the father he barely knew and so desperately wanted acceptance from. The one who he resembled.... He stopped looking around. It all sounded good in his head but...he hadn't the slightest clue WHERE he was, where his 'father' was, or where his mother and sisters were. The little kip was lost. He stopped and sat down. Mother always said if you get lost, to stay still and wait for someone to find you. And by now his mother was probably looking for him. Maybe this wasn't the best idea. Hearing a noise in the bushes, his ears perked up as he got to his feet. "D...dad?" he called as he looked at the rustling, hoping it wasn't one of those things his mother warned him about. The 'bad things' that live in the darkness.

It was still dark when Zaphod awoke after a night of exceptionally poor sleep. So much still churned in the male's troubled mind, for yesterday, he'd run into Kina, a delicious morsel from earlier this summer. While meeting old sweethearts wasn't necessarily a bad thing, this one had, well... buns in the oven. And she'd brought them along to meet him. There were two little girls, and a little boy who looked like him. Man. Daughters. He'd always kinda wanted a son, somebody to pass on the family name... but... daughters. What would he do with them? Frustrated, the male rose to his feet and looked back at the ridge behind him. His family... yeah, his family was sleeping somewhere on it. Should he leave now? Disappear? He had places he could lay low a while, but it wouldn't really be, well, fair to them. He could stick around for a little bit at least, get to know the kids. But then wouldn't leaving them be even harder on them? It was too early to be thinking about this. Shaking his head heavily, he trod over the dewy grasses to a shallow pond nearby to get a drink. As he lowered his head to the scent of water, for there wasn't really enough light yet to see by, he heard rustling behind him. The male froze in place, head to the ground, preparing to turn and fight or flee, when a small voice behind him called him 'Dad.' Turning slowly, he faced the small blue boy from yesterday.
"Oh." So much meaning behind one syllable. Zaphod was quite glad to discover that the disturbance was only his small son, as opposed to the boy's angry mother... or, gods forbid, his mother's angry male relatives. He wasn't sure if his spicy little Kina had brothers, but generally brothers didn't take it well if their sisters got into tricky situations with unattached males.
"Hey, K... kiddo." His name began with a hard K sound, right? He thought of 'em all as Zaphod junior right now, honestly, and he yawned widely to hide his uncertainty. "You are up awfully early. What's goin' on?"

The little boy had been close to tears, scared he wouldn’t find his mother again when he had realized he was lost. As far as he knew, his mother had no family. When in truth she was orphaned young, and really has no family. Which is why she is so determined to get Zaphod to shape up and care for his offspring. He took part in their creation, and dammit he was going to help care for them! She couldn’t do it alone, and they would benefit from having their father around. Cosmo in particular, since as he gets older, there are things mommy can’t quite help him with. The little boy still wasn’t sure why he had called out ‘Dad’ when he heard the sound, probably just him hopefully thinking that his dad might actually be there and trying to kill the fear that it was a bigger predator that likes to eat little kips.
When none other then his father came out of the bushes, he heaved a sigh of relief, but resisted the urge to run up and cuddle him for comfort. He may be his father but…he still didn’t really know him and he didn’t want to push his only father away. Ears back…he slowly took a step forward….head down in a submissive pose. Kiddo, at least he acknowledged him. ”Umm…I…was trying to find you..” he said in a nervous tone as he stopped in his tracks. ”Mama will be mad when she finds out I wandered off…I hope you don’t hate me for wanting to find you. I just…never had a dad. I wondered what it was like so…I…wanted to meet you in a better setting. Please don’t be mad.” said the young kip, desperately scared that his dad might reject him. After all, he left when they met him the first time…he was scared he might not see him again.

"Well, I would hope you never had a dad before. You look too much like me to be anybody else's," Zaphod joked, trying to alleviate some of the fear in the boy's face. Man, this kip was a mirror image of himself as a little thing. All blue fur and worries. He'd never known his father, either, and Kina and the little ones had come so far... this must've been a hard journey on all of them. He wasn't an easy one to find. He couldn't just turn the kid away; that'd be heartless. Reaching out a paw, he ruffled the boy's headfur, just between his horns in what he hoped was an affectionate gesture.
"You and your momma and sisters; you're not camped too far from here, really. But, tell you what. How about you stick here with me for a bit, I'll rustle up some grub, you can get a drink and clean up a bit, and when the sun is up, I can return you to your family. How 'bout that, kiddo?"

More then anything right now he was just scared of rejection. That his dad wont want him. He looked down when he mentioned the first comment before looking back up embarrassed. ”S…sorry.” he said, and flinched a little when he ruffled his hair, before looking up at him and smiling. He wasn’t so scary up close. But he was sooo big! Could he ever get that big himself? It seemed impossible to the little male kip.
When Zaphod offered to let him stay there for the night, the little boy’s grin widened as he got to his feet. ”That would be awesome!” he said as he smiled, completely forgetting the fact his mom is probably going insane right about now if she has woken up and found him missing. He wasn’t sure what to say to his father, but did find himself saying something. ”Umm…my name is Cosmo…” he said, wondering if his father even knew his name. He vaguly remembered his mother telling him all their names, but wondered if he could remember. He didn’t remember his father’s name. Zapper? Zaaa zaaaap…dos? He didn’t have the best memory after all…but he couldn’t forget that face, since he looked like his father, it would be like forgetting his own appearance! He wondered if he would look like that when he grew up…
