Since the advent of the Green Revolution and the rise of factory farms, many of the varities of vegetables and other edible plants has been rapidly disappearing. It has been estimated that we have already lost 90% of our vegetable varieties. There is hope for this however. Organizations such as the Seed Saver's Exchange have been formed, as well as the many people who have dedicated themselves to preserving vegetables, herbs, fruits, and other plants. Once a variety of plant goes extinct or becomes sterile from lack of pollination, they can never exhist.Any thoughts on this matter? What if we lost a varity of sweet corn or a wild poppy?
