A recent study by the National Psychiatric Institute in Boston, MA, concluded that no activity can account for the phenomenon known as nightmares. Whereas many dreams come from unconscious desires, most nightmares seem to come from an outside source independent of the individual. In fact, when subjects are asked to recall nightmares they are almost always found in the same memory section as actual physical memories, not the section where normal dreams are replayed. In other words, those horrifying creatures you see at night in your "dreams?"
They're real.

It’s what binds us all together. In the beginning we were all garden-variety insomniacs. Maybe you had nightmares. Maybe you had problems that kept you out of bed for too damned long. Maybe you were just over-caffeinated.
It doesn’t matter. Not now. Not now that sleep has become an option.
Things have clicked. The world has become a strange place. Different. Now it’s full of things that weren’t there only a moment ago; doors where only blank walls once stood; an extra window looking out over an unfamiliar skyline packed with unfamiliar buildings; clocks gleefully chiming the thirteenth hour through streets and back alleys which lead to odd markets which traffic in commodities like memory, angst, and indecision.
You’ve crossed into the Dreaming Dark, the spaces blind which separate the work-a-day world from a place of dreams and nightmares. You’re Awake.
But something isn’t right. That click you heard was not the pieces lining up, snapping together to form a pretty picture. Oh no, friend. That was the hammer being thumbed back on the gun pressed to the back of your head. Every nightmare you’ve ever had, all of those quiet little terrors which reside in the back of your head, can smell you now. You’ve found your way into their world. They’re hunting you. And they’ll find you.
You’re chum in the water, friend, and it’s time to start getting your head wrapped around that happy fact. See, before the clock strikes thirteen again, you’re going to get tired. Really tired. More tired than you ever could have imagined. But mark my words, sleep isn’t just an unpleasant option anymore, it’s the enemy. It’ll strip you of your vitality, your energy, your sanity, and leave you vulnerable.
And the Nightmares are getting closer.

And that's all you get. As it stands, I'm looking for no less than three and no more than six wanderers in the Dark. Unaltered homo sapiens, if you please, but laden with a reason for staying awake long enough to start to see the seams.
Interested parties for a small, close-knit, heavy-handed, and altogether unsettling romp through a place which Nightmares call home and angels fear to tread may feel free to send me a PM. Include something that terrifies you.
See you on the other side, kiddies.~D
