Those are nice questions, Vivian!

Well, first answer: "Islamic" is just a term reffering to anything that has to do with Islam. Islam is our religion.

Second answer:I'm not sure I know what you mean by "imply", but Islam is about worshipping our one creator, Allah, alone without worshipping any others besides him. False gods such as, say, Buddha or Zeus.

Third answer: As I stated above, Muslims worship Allah.

I hope I could be of some help to you and I hope I didnt take TOO long with these answers. Anyone else? 3nodding

That sounds almost like Christianity, what is the difference between Islam and Christianity?

christianity is based on christ, that religion says that jesus was the son and prophet of god. Islam does not believe that is true, WE ONLY WORSHIP ALLAH, and we dont eat pork or celabrate christmas, easter, or any other christian holiday rolleyes
PostPosted: Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:15 pm

Why don't you eat pork? And I don't think that "Christmas" is even a Christian holiday. They celebrate that as Jesus's birthday and he was'nt even born anywhere near there.... I don't get Christianity...it's full of weird stuff like that...

one of the reasons we dont eat pork is because it is considered a "dirty" animal and is completely unsanitary to eat. During the famins and plagues people had to be VERY careful of what they ate and pig was so dirty that you would get sick from eating it. It was just one of those things that kinda stuck around forever...

Yesh!!!
We probably all enjoy good food, but we must make sure the food we eat is permissible and safe for us. That means making ourselves familiar with what is allowed and what is not allowed according to Islam.

The Qur'an makes it quite clear as to what is halal and haram. Basically, all food is halal except Meat from swine ,Pork-based products and by-products ,Animals improperly slaughtered, or already dead before slaughtering is due to take place , Intoxicants/alcohol ,Etc..N more others!

Okay, so...I am a new muslim. I converted from Christianity, like, last year. I'm totally white. I don't speak Arabic. I've never held an actual Qur'an in my hand before. (But I've read a few things from the History channel and from the internet xD) So I have a lot of questions:
1. I don't wear hijab. Is that wrong?
2. If I can't say the prayers in Arabic, is that okay? Or should I learn Arabic?
3. I don't pray five times a day, but I still pray often. Should I pray more?
4. My mom hasn't really let me fast during Ramadan, because she said it's unhealthy for me while I go to school, but I heard that you only shouldn't fast if you're sick, old, or traveling. So am I doing anything wrong?
5. My friends keep demanding what's wrong with eating pork, and I have a hard time explaining it to them. What would be a logical answer that they would understand, other than "it's unclean"?
6. Is it wrong for a muslim to marry a christian or a jew?
7. There's a lot of kids at my school that associate muslims with terrorists. When they verbally attack me, how do I defend myself without hurting anyone?
8. There's a lot of christian kids at my school that insist that I am following the wrong God. How do I tell them I worship the same God as they do when they don't want to listen to me?

And those are my questions for now. I'll probably have more later. lol

1. You have to wear hijab. Females are obliged to wear hijab from puberty and onward.
2.You have to learn Arabic. The word of Allah came to us in Arabic and we can only pray in Arabic. Translations are only exceptable if you want to understand the meaning. Learn Arabic. Even if its hard don't worry because the harder you try and the harder something is the more hasanaat( good deeds) you will get from it.
3 You have to pray 5 times a day. Its one of the pillars of Islam along with fasting, Hajj, Zakaat and testifying there is no god but Allah. Yes you have to pray in Arabic.
4. Yes you have to fast Ramadan. The fasting time is from Sunrise to Sunset and its not unhealthy. The only exceptions to fasting are old age, young age, menstruation, pregnancy, and traveling. Anything other than that than you have no excuses.
5.... Umm it's unclean sorry I can't help you with that one sad
6. A Muslim Man is allowed to marry a respectable Christian or Jewish muslim. His wife must believe in Allah. A muslim woman is not allowed to marry anyone besides muslim men. The reason for this is because the children always take after the religion of their father and this is still happening all around the world. If the woman married a christian or jew than her children wouldn't grow up to be muslim which is ofcoarse wrong.
7 i can't help u sorry :'((
8. Allah is the same god that christians and jew worship. The only reason we call God Allah is because Allah means God in arabic. In fact, Arabic- speaking christians call God Allah. It is the same thing. This should shut them up.

Hope this helped. smile The most important thing is for you to start taking Arabic lessoons because you won't be able to fully commit to your religion without understanding it. If you have anyother questions then PM me. XD smile

Wait, isn't it true that a girl should start wearing a hijab when she also feels 'ready' for it? 'Cause I heard that being forced to wear a hijab isn't good...

1. It's right for you to wear a hijab, that's clothes for us women, but don't like... force yourself to wear it, wear it when you feel ready for it 'cause if you're forced to or if you force yourself to wear it then that's bad.
2. I dunno about that. Father told me that what's really important is like... the intention and stuff, right? But it will be good if you learn it in arabic.
3. Learn all your prayers and do it, 'cause it's obligatory, i listed it below:
1. Fajr Prayer - 4 rakats
2. Zuhr - 10 rakats
3. Asr - 4 rakats
4. Maghrib - 5 rakats
5. Esha - 9 rakats
It might seem difficult to you at first, but you'll be able to do it insha'allah.
5. You should fast 'cause it's also a pillar of islam, but yeah... we don't have to fast if we're sick/travelling and stuff, right? But in islam we're supposed to obey our parents and if you're mother wont let you I have nooooo idea what I say sweatdrop
6. I dunno 'bout that, but I don't think it's allowed for either man or women... I don't want to marry a non-muslim anyway.
7. Make sure to speak calmly, don't act angry. And tell the truth, that islam is a good religion, and that you're a muslim and you aren't a terrorist at all, and loads of other muslims aren't.
8. I dunno....

I have looots of questions! : D First of all, Is "Islamic" the official religion of Muslims? Second, what does the religion imply? What do Muslims worship? I'm kneeeew to this all and I want to find out all that I can from absolutely nothing. : D xD

Hello Vivian! Yes, im excited wen ppl want to learn the true Islam. I must say before i answer any of your questions is becareful who you ask. There are alot of muslims out there who either don't know their own religion, or give you mixed information. Yea i know people are still answering this too, lol!

1. By islamic you mean Islam is the official religion of the muslims yes it is. Careful not every word that associates with islamic is truly islamic...like islamitization or something like that? Or something purely political that has nothing to do with islam but is hiding under the term to dupe people.

2. The religion of Islam implies alot of things. That we worship one God which is Allah (islamic tawheed/monotheism), we believe in all the prophets, we believe in angels, we believe in the five pillars of Islam: Testimony of faith, fasting (obligatory during ramadan there are exceptions), prayer (mandatory prayers 5 times a day, there are exceptions), pilgrimage(obligatory when you meet the requirements), and zakat (like charity) we give 2.5% of our wealth to the needy muslims in our community first....this is money that you have put aside and have saved up for at least a year. If you don't meet the requirements then this doesn't apply to you. this applies to the wealthy muslims really...but if you have money saved up at least a year you need to take that money to the masjid. This is only for the muslims and not the non-muslims...We also believe in predestination which is the decree of Allah. If Allah wills he will make it happen, if he doesn't make it happen, then he doesn't and we should just accept this.

We believe in modesty for both the man + woman. Learning our religion is obligatory and not a sunnah. I mean Islam is basically a way of life...It teaches us so much. Oh also that we were created to worship Allah and that by obeying prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) is the same as obeying Allah. I mean there is alot to learn about this deen. If you find anyone bringing new stuff into the religion or taking it out just know that it will be rejected of them. Islam is only one path and we should be neither negligent of our obligations nor extreme in them we are to take the middle course. We are to be different from the non-muslims as well. We are NOT to have non-muslim friends, no dating, and etc.

Let me go back to the above when i was talking about the exceptions to the five pillars: In regards to fasting not everyone can fast. For example: During ramadan a woman who is having her menses (or on her period) she cannot fast nor can she pray. When she is finish she needs to make those days up by writing the number of days and make them up when she can insh'Allah before the next Ramadan. If she doesn't do this then she has not completed her fasts. She also cannot fast the six days of shawwal until she make up those days. There are also other muslims that cannot fast either.

"For those unable to fast:
A great thing to do is to feed a person who did fast and thus you will receive the reward of their fast."
http://sunnahfollowers.net/ppt/Tawheed/Ramadan/Advice_Ramadan/text6.html

"Allah will reward you for every Believer whom you make duaa for.
Also duaa is accepted from the faster."
http://sunnahfollowers.net/ppt/Tawheed/Ramadan/Advice_Ramadan/text12.html

In reguards to Praying the exceptions are: Like i said previously, the menstruating woman, and etc.

As muslims everyday we strive to please Allah through our worship, proving to him that we are worthy of him, that we truly believe in him, that we want to become closer to him so that we may enter paradise.

Also remember that:

“Do you think just because you say you believe that you will not be tested?”

"The stronger we grown in our faith the more severe the tests from Allah will be as a means of our proving to him that we are worthy of his closeness."
http://sunnahfollowers.net/ppt/Tawheed/Goodness/Good-22/text1.html

Also in regards to the pilgrimage: If you don't have the money, if you are a muslim woman who is not married nor has a muslim mahram and i think there was one more thing but i forgot. Now obviously if u don't have the money for hajj which is expensive u can't go. Also before even going you need to read up + learn everything there is to know when making the pilgrimage. Don't just go and don't have a clue about what you are doing and whatnot. Also for the woman, if you are single you don't need to go alone and going with a few sisters doesn't make it right. There are alot of people making the pilgrimage and the sisters need a male to accodomate during the travel and on the hajj, because i heard people be knocking down people or whatever. A muslim woman is not supposed to travel without a mahrem (a male that is blood relative to her, with the exceptions to male cousins, they are lawful in marriage to you and you must cover up in front of them) for more than three days.

In regards to the charity, if you are a muslim and does not have alot of money, nor have any saved up then you are an exception. If you are wealthy, or saved up some money over a year then you are required to give away 2.5% of your wealth or savings to your local masjid. This money is for the needy muslims in the local community. You can give your money to the non-muslims anytime, especially your family. They are your first priority to take care of when it comes to sadaqa (voluntary charity) But u do not give them your zakat money. A needy muslim is any single muslim, and there were other indications but i forgot them.

Also remmeber that Just because you are a muslim does NOT mean that you are guaranteed for paradise, you have to WORK for it. Nothing good comes easy. You know how the christians believe that if a sinless prophet can take the sins of mankind just so long as they believe he died for their sins they are granted a ticket to paradise? No, this is incorrect.

Ok i said enough but hopefully you can get some idea of what i am saying.
If i said anything incorrect then this is due to my mistakes as i am accountable for everything i say be it talking or typing. Also Allah knows best. May Allah guide the non-muslims and continue to purify, guide and bless the believers amenn!

But if any non-muslim wants to learn about Islam the first recommended being to know is Allah. You need to know who he is, what he is capable of, his names and attributes. Also the true islamic monotheism, and then the five pillars of faith and so on

8. There's a lot of christian kids at my school that insist that I am following the wrong God. How do I tell them I worship the same God as they do when they don't want to listen to me?

And those are my questions for now. I'll probably have more later. lol

As-salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu sister! Welcome to Islam!

1. Have you had your menses yet? If so then yes it is wrong for you not to be wearing your hijab. The external hijab is mandatory for you to wear. If you don’t wear hijab and you had your menses you are basically sinning and publicly sinning as well. And when you publicly sin, it’s basically saying that you don’t fear Allah. The same goes for smoking, fornicating, drinking, etc. Also learn more about the hijab. Do you truly know what is meant when you wear hijab both internally and externally: including the mannerisms, behaviors, speeches and actions? You can also surround yourself with righteous sisters. You can make supplication to Allah to send you some righteous sisters so that they can help you along your journey insh’Allah.

2. The prayer in which we perform five times a day MUST be in Arabic. This is basically the only mandatory Arabic that we must know and understand the meaning of. You most definitely need to learn surah al-fatiha in which without the recitation of this surah your prayer is not accepted. For every rakaat you make only the al-fatiha is required. It is only sunnah to recite other surahs. I mean if at first you don’t know the Arabic words then you need to learn what the meaning is in your native tongue. There are online sites and videos to help you out or you can simply go to the mosque and ask some sisters to help you. You can go to this link here which has an useful tool to help you recite surah al fatiha and others: http://www.mounthira.com/
Also you can go to this link for more on the prayer: http://sunnahfollowers.net/newtoislam/
3. Sister, only five prayers are required, Know this, if you are capable of doing more than what is required of you can. If not, there is nothing wrong with this. That’s like saying only Don’t bite off more than you can chew. As believers we must know our strengths and weaknesses. And also remember that good deeds are not just limiting to praying…you can also fast, give charity, help others, anything that is pleasing to Allah basically.

4. Well in cases like this we are to remember: “Do you think just because you say you believe that you will not be tested?”
"The stronger we grown in our faith the more severe the tests from Allah will be as a means of our proving to him that we are worthy of his closeness."
http://sunnahfollowers.net/ppt/Tawheed/Goodness/Good-22/text1.html
Also, we are not to obey anyone who contradicts the religion. Meaning if you as a muslim know you should fast but your mother tells you not to then you should tell your mother that my religion requires me to fast during Ramadan x amount of hours and that I do this for Allah (I.e. the creator) Also make dua to Allah asking him to continue to guide you through your trials and watnot. Yes you are to obey your parents but when they contradict Islam, you are supposed to obey the creator. Yea I understand that this is hard, been there done that. Try and be string in your faith.
5. You don’t have to constantly explain why you do things…just tell them that you are obeying your creator when doing this. Also tell them to mind their own business. That you live for Allah and not them.

6. No only muslim men are allowed to marry christian women or jewish women. There are conditions in this but I forgot. You can ask the imam at the masjid insh’Allah.

7. Tell them to have a beautiful day and move on lol or a blessed day. Do not let these loosers get to u. Remmeber why you were created, to worship Allah. Don’t fear them fear Allah.

8. Hey if they don’t want to listen to you, leave them alone. Hey most of them probably worship Jesus more than they do God. You know how they say thank you jesus, oh jesus this and that? Jesus died for me? It’s like shouldn’t you be thanking the creator? Jesus is a part of the creation NOT the creator. Remember the surah 109 al-kafirun..reflect on this when dealing with non-muslims: 109:2 Say, "O disbelievers,
109:2
do not worship what you worship.
109:3

Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.
109:4

Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.
109:5

Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.
109:6

For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."

Ok i said enough but hopefully you can get some idea of what i am saying.
If i said anything incorrect then this is due to my mistakes as i am accountable for everything i say be it talking or typing. Also Allah knows best. May Allah guide the non-muslims and continue to purify, guide and bless the believers ameen!
