What is the meaning of the number 707 in Japan?

I see it (on a sign) or mentioned in the dialouge, of several anime series. It's driving me F***** CRAZY! Someone please tell me or give me a link. I have tried. Chotto tasukete kudasai!

P.S. Still working on typing in Japanese on a MAC.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I did a little looking; it looks like there were 2 manga/anime with 707 in the title: Submarine 707 and Nana 707. I don't know if that's it or not.... I'll try and do a little more digging later. =)

Yes it did! =D But you should note that although that word is pronounced as if a "wa" is on the end, it is actually a "ha"

It would be a face like "^v^" or "o_o"... "707" (crying??) Or they would be talking about a pencil's new brand.

I need to know the context to understand what it means sweatdrop

And, just adding to the theme "4219" is a bad number for japanese because it means "Going to dead"... (Shi ni i-ku)... That's a little scary XD

Thank you for the reminder. I did not know. I think I was half asleep or just frustrated to the point that I didn't care.

I am not going to worry about ti anymore. It just seems like such an odd pairing of numbers, but maybe it is just an easy number to draw and see. No biggie, but if anyone does figure it out. I would LOVE to hear it.

Sorry this is a little off topic, but typing on a mac is easy ^_^

1. Go to your system preferences.
2. Click on international (I'm running OS X 10.4 and it's under personal at the very top)
3. under the "Language" tab you should see an option to Edit list. Look for "日本語" and add it.
4. Then go to the "Input Menu" tab. scroll down until you see the Tab "Kotoeri" and check all that you want to be able to input. (You can also edit other input stuff here) Make sure you check "Show input menu in menu bar" at the bottom. (you don't have to, but it makes it easier to figure out what your input method is)
5. You should have an "A" on your menu bar (near your clock and stuff). You can click it to select your input method, and just continue to type the way you usually do in japanese. Press "enter" to use only kana, and press the space bar to select kanji.
note: You can also press command + a to change the input method.

I hope that helps!!!! heart

I worked most of the kinks out of it... it will take a little getting used to. The switching aspect.

In Nana 707, the '707' is both the appartment number and a combination of the two main characters: Nana-Nana; 7-7. I don't know what the zero or 'oh' stands for (707 pronounced as seven-oh-seven), but maybe that has meaning in japanese?
As for Submarine 707R, probably just a random chosen number for the submarine. Japanese submarines had 200 series and 400 series, why not a 700 fictional production series for the anime? And 707 seems like an interesting number, though nowhere an explination for the number has been given throughout the series.
