Hello everyone. This thread is so that we can all discuss the details of the Pokedex and come to a common agreement on what it does and does not do. I have received questioning statements from more than one of you so I have made this thread to settle things once and for all.

First off, this is my current view on the Pokedex as it pertains to the RP.

The Pokedex is a red, hand-held, flip open, multifunctional device that fits into most any pocket. It has a screen capable of showing both moving and still images as well as displaying text. There are many many buttons for many features.

-First off the Pokedex is your form of identification. The act of receiving your Pokedex also involves it being registered to you. This means a photo of you, your name, and home town are permanently saved to the Pokedex which cannot be changed or tampered with. This however is simply a given and does not need to be typed unless you want to. It is assumed this has happened for everyone.

-Secondly, the Pokedex is an already complete list of every known Pokemon. There are currently 493 known Pokemon and the Pokedex has an entry for them all. You do not need to scan a Pokemon to complete it as you do in the video games.

-There is however, a feature where it tells you how many out of 493 Pokemon you have seen. In the RP at this current moment Almus has seen a Gastly, Scyther, Bidoof, and Tailow since he got his Pokedex. That means his Pokedex would tell him he has seen 4/493 Pokemon. You do not have to keep track or even mention this feature's existence unless you want to.

-Every Pokedex comes with a long ranged sensor designed so that if you point the front of your Pokedex (the front being where the sensor is) at a Pokemon it will automatically scroll through it's database until it finds the Pokemon and then it will give you information about it.

-However, since the Pokedex is already complete, there is a feature to scroll through all the Pokemon in the Pokedex's database by your choice of Pokedex number, alphabetically, or an on screen keyboarded search feature. This can be done even if there is not a Pokemon in front of you to scan. Much like you don't need an apple in your hand to look "Apple" up in the encyclopedia.

-As for what information the Pokedex has for each Pokemon, it holds any information that you can find about a Pokemon on the site Psypokes which can be found here. This link can also be found in the rules. On Psypokes you can find a picture of any Pokemon both shinny and not, physical information like type and height and foots etc, the Pokemon abilties, weaknesses and strengths, evolution information, a listing of every Pokedex description that Pokemon has had in every single game, locations, level up moves, Egg/Breeding moves, tutored moves, TM moves, Pokemon stats, happiness, natures, and much much more. It is all there on the site, and in my opinion your Pokedex should have all of that information for you to look up at just the flick of a button as well.

Ok that's all I can think of at the top of my head. Who has a problem with any of the above or what else do you think the Pokedex should have? Please be very detailed in your response and please say why.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
New additions.

-The Pokedex is water proof, shock proof, flame resistant, and crush resistant.

-Eh, I don't really like the idea of the Pokedex being any color than traditional red but I'll allow it. From now on, the outside cover of the Pokedex can be any single color that you want.

I agree with the features listed here. Only additioned is that it is durable, water-proof, shock-proof and heat-proof. It seems to be voice-sensitive for what reasons i can't really tell.

As for appearance, I base it on the Heart Gold and Soul Silver Pokedex which is mostly touch screen already and comes with a stylus. It Flips and resembles a cross between from a gameboy color and ds. It's body is that of a gameboy color and it's second screen is like the ds which flips on top. The bottom screen is the touch screen

It comes in red and pink colors (boys and girls respectively). But i think it should be customizable on what color you want. You can search it up as it has been used in the current anime of pokemon.

I use Bulbapedia for Pokemon information, if thats not a big problem.

For maps and other features, will we use PokeNav and Poketch???

I used them i the old forums, I donno if we can fuse them with the Pokedex or we just use them separatly
PostPosted: Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:51 am

i use bulbapedia as well

I think it's best also if we seperated the other features like what Jorgevy said to Poketechs and it's counterparts Pokenavs and Pokegears.

Ok so I think I remember pretty well what the Poketch is. It's a little device that can be customized with a watch, a pretty screen saver, a map, a berry finder thing, etc.

I can't seem to remember as easily what the PokeNav and PokeGear were. Could someone please refresh my memory?

Yes bulbapedia and serebii are both great sites. The problem with them though is that there is just too much. Those sites are more about anime listings, video games updates, world Pokemon game competitions and stuff like that. If you actually go to Psypokes and search for a Pokemon and click the "show all" tab you will see that Psypokes is a more "to the point" site for looking at Pokemon information. Everything is easy to read and find. Pretty much anything you would want to know can quickly be accessed in the Pokedex or Pokelab tabs on the left side menu.

well if you go to Bulbapedia ou can search Pokenav or Pokegear

and you find everything about it

PokéNav

PokéGear

Yes you see? All about the games lol. Thanks Jorgevy.

Ok well I looked over the PokeTch, PokeGear, and PokeNav. I liked when I read about the PokeTch and PokeGear but not so much the PokeNav. The Nav doesn't have any features you can't get for the other two so it isn't really needed and won't be included in this RP.

Now we still have the PokeTch and PokeGear to deal with along with the PokeDex. I agree with Cal that I don't want to combine them all together in some made up device that doesn't actually exist yet in the Pokemon world. So what are we going to do? Are there going to be three different electronic devices that we will be fumbling between for the rest of the RP? Should we not even bother with the Tch and Gear? What do you guys think?

I have 4 devices

-Pokédex
-PokéGear
-Pokétch
-a portable radio + tv, with internet conection, I use it to help me teach moves to pokemon or to search for information on other stuff, ho and maybe also to contact some people we meet along the way

( I donno if there´s anything like that, but in Silver we had portable radio and cellphone and in Fire Red we had a portable TV)

I just remembered that the Cellphone + Radio is the PokeGear xD

Yes so that still leaves us with a PokeDex, PokeGear, and a PokeTch. I guess we are going to have three devices available to us then.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 18, 2009 5:09 pm

Those 3 items should be fine

Pokedex - Identicfication + Pokemon Encyclopedia
Poketech - Watch + its functions
Pokegear - counterpart to cellphone

Any other key item fron the game anyone would like to include? There are other items like VS Recorder, Seeker and etc.

Well, each character could have an item according to his skills or something

Example: mine would have a Explorers kit

Example: Cal would have a high tech device

Example: Almus would have something related to being an outcast and being called diferent xD joking, I donno whats Almus skills

but I think you got it, something that would be useful and unique to each one
PostPosted: Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:09 am

I don't really think that getting a unique item is really a logical idea.
It just seems more like spam to me.

If we want a special unique item, we can get it along the way or already have it. We don't really need to have something like that.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 19, 2009 11:57 am

well that was my idea, you get it or you already have it

do we have a new member???

Cal, both a VS recorder and Seeker I believe are or can in this RP be included in one of the three devices already mentioned.

Jorgevy, I would allow you to carry an explorer kit with you to go along with your backpack or something but it would have nothing to do with Poke-technology. Just a bag holding dust brushes or a take apart pick axe or whatever archeologists carry around with them.

Yes Jorgevy we have a couple new members. However, you are going off topic because this is something that belongs in the OoC thread, not here.
