Do You Believe in Magic?
Rank: 1
Antagonist: Master V
NPC Accompaniment: Yes
Souls available: User Image
Mission: SUCCESS/FAILURE

The sunny state of California was very sunny, but during the winter it could get to quite low temperatures. Usually, the staff member visited the warm state during the summer or spring where one could enjoy the perfect weather. That was when the scenery was idyllic and most relaxing. It was always a pleasant trip to go to California, whether for missions or for vacation.

It was not often that Arashi came during the winter though, and boy did the mornings get chilly. Thankfully it was well into the afternoon; however, dark grey clouds still covered the sky and belied the state’s weather-perfect image.

Laying stomach-down in the grass of a nearly-empty park, the Death Scythe idly blew the bang out of his eye. Heterochromatic eyes looking out at the few people that littered the park, he then looked at the street right next to the park, a magic shop right in front of it. A blank look at the shop and then he rolled onto his back, hoping that these two students would arrive on time, if not early.

Walking quickly down a thankfully empty street, Dario ignored the whining of the girl who followed after him, occasionally having to jog a bit to match his much longer strides. Rayne's complaints that day had already ranged from sore feet (he couldn't blame her, those boots hardly looked comfortable) to being cold (she was now wearing his jacket and seemed to have thought better than complaining about her legs being cold as well lest he take back his jacket). Of course, her discomfort had seemingly faded a bit as soon as they had gotten to a row of shops that had interested her on the way to their intended meeting spot, and he had almost had to physically drag her away from them, in the end promising that if they succeeded in this mission he would take her back to them and then they could go shopping; he might even buy her something if she behaved well enough.

Finally, the designated meeting spot came into view, as did the man waiting for them there, and Dario felt it was safe to slow his pace, allowing himself a small smirk at the relieved sigh Rayne let out as she reached down and rubbed at her cold and sore legs. He distinctly remembered telling her that a mini skirt and tank top/corset combination was not a good idea; maybe next time she would listen to him, but he wouldn't hold his breath.

Still lying on his back, Arashi was unaware of their arrival until their footsteps were within hearing distance. It was only luck that he had decided not to listen to his music while he waited for Rayne and Dario – a frivolous decision, really. At least he didn’t have to make a fool of himself when he coincidentally leaned his head far back enough to spot the two approaching him. He blinked at the two for a few seconds before finally speaking, “Hello, Miss Cantrave and Mr. Dri’are? Oh, of course you are. Who else could you be?” Arashi threw them a relaxed grin and slowly sat up, twisting his body to look at them.

“I’m going to assume that you’ve read all the mission specs and I can just skip to the part where I tell you that your mission has started. Good luck you two!” he quipped, widely gesturing for the pair to begin searching for their target. Conveniently enough Arashi pointed towards a nearby magic shop before he plopped back down on the grass, happily pulling up his headphones and scrolling through his music list.

Dario was fine with the lack of response needed after the other man had finished speaking; the simple clue and 'off you go then' more than fine with him. Rayne, however, seemed less than pleased with the quick dismissal and was apparently going to show it whether he could hear her over his music or not. "Hey! Aren't you supposed to, I dunno, help?" Her tone was sarcastic and the frown on her face helped prove that she was not in any way happy with the situation.

Sighing, Dario turned to look at the magic shop, not waiting to see if she had been heard or would be graced with a response before starting towards the seemingly innocent business, the sound of more unhappy commentary and boots hitting the dirt signaling that Rayne had decided that following was better than standing around pouting, although the glimpse he caught of her face told him she was still unhappy about the whole thing and would probably tell him all about it later.

Reaching the shop door, he pushed it open, gesturing for Rayne to enter before he followed soon after her, letting the door fall closed behind them. They both glanced around, taking quick notes about their surroundings before trying to locate the store owner.

The black-blue haired girl looked indignant at how so casually Arashi had dismissed them. He cocked an eyebrow at the weapon – her name was Rayne, correct? – before grinning and laughed. “There’s a very logical answer for that, Miss Rayne,” he started with an amused smile, hopping to his feet and picking up his violin case. “You see, what good would it do you if I helped you with everything on your mission? Staff accompaniment is not for every mission, after all. We’re far too busy to do it for every single one, and after awhile it’s simply not necessary. Therefore, it’s more beneficial to let you do everything by yourself right off the bat.”

Arashi pulled out his instrument and inspected its condition. “However, if you two happen to be in a life-threatening situation I am required to step in. Is that clear?” the man finished with a perky beam.

The pair finally walked off to search for their target, immediately heading for the magic shop across the street.

Tinkling bells signaling the duo’s entrance, a young man strode in from the door behind the counter. Arms outstretched he welcomed them, “Hello and welcome! Are there any specific magic items that you’re looking for?” He grinned and strode forward, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. “Or maybe you’re interesting in starting magic? In which I can show you some items.”
