Z was in a s**t mood, and didn't bother to hide it. There was a scowl on his face as he followed Lucien into DeathBUCKS, violet eyes glinting danger as he stepped inside and looked around. He would've thought, after their last mission at a coffee shop, that any sane person would cut coffee out of their diet, but... the frown eased a little as he snorted - it just went to show how insane they both were. Still, he couldn't resist commenting, as Lucien made a beeline to the counter, "we must have death wishes."

His only response was a glare as the other stepped up to the counter, Z not far behind. "Give me a Death-In-A-Cup, double strength."
(Translated into English - an Americano, with double the shots.)
Having given his order, Lucien stepped aside, allowing Z to place his order. "Just plain black coffee, biggest size you've got." He had no patience for the elaborate names DeathBUCKS thought up, to him, coffee was coffee, and he even drank it black.

They paid, and Z, having nothing better to do while they waited, rossed his arms over his chest and looked around. It was too early for students to be here studying - heck, if it hadn't been for the fact that they needed to meet their contact early, neither of them would even be out of bed - but there were various other characters up and about. Some were reading the newspaper, some were simply having breakfast. A newspaper lying nearby caught his eye, and he wandered over, picking it up to flip through it as he waited.

Dario was just about ready to strangle his unintentional housemate and partner; she had not quit whining the entire morning about absolutely everything from the lack of meat in the fridge to the lack of things with actual caffeine in them to help her wake up. Finally, he had just made the mistake of offering to buy her a drink from DeathBUCKS as a way to shut her up. It hadn't worked but still, here he was walking into the coffee shop with the loud mouth in tow as she continued whining.

"You do realize it's way to early to actually be awake anyways? We don't have to be at school for hours! And now I have shadows under my eyes because you never heard of sleeping in." Yep, still whining about the same things, just worded a bit differently.

"I'm sure no one will notice, you wear more than enough make-up to hide them; and if you hate waking up so early, why don't you move out?" That earned him a smack, even as she moved up the counter to order her drink.

"Can I have that blended drink with the caramel and chocolate? Largest size~" Falsely sweet in a way that matched the drink she had ordered in the blink of an eye. She was probably bipolar... among many other things he didn't wish to put a name to.

After placing his order (a large, black coffee... decaf) and paying for both drinks, he moved away from the counter again to allow other customers their turn.

The door to DeathBUCKS opened and closed again, letting in another pair of patrons, just as their orders were called. Z glanced over for long enough to note that the two new customers were around their age, before heading - stalking, almost - to the drop-off counter to pick up his coffee. He usually woke up alert, but last night had been a s**t night, and he wasn't looking forward to the day ahead.

Lucien, he noted, as he reached the drop-off counter, had made it there before him, and was already calmly adding sugar to his drink as Z picked up his own. He listened to the new customers order with half an ear as he moved his coffee to the condiments counter for a lid, though he almost snorted when the male ordered decaf. Who the heck ordered decaf this early in the damned morning?

Lid firmly in place, Z was ready to go, but curiosity had him glancing over to give the pair a second glance, and violet eyes skimmed over the duo for a few seconds before finally registering why they seemed so familiar. SHIBUSEN. Apparently, Lucien had realized the same thing, and before Z could move to intercept him, the TECHNICIAN had already stepped forward, social mask in place. A groan escaped before he could stop it, and though he winced at the heat, Z forced himself to take a sip of the coffee in his hands as Lucien spoke. "Imagine that, fellow SHIBUSEN students this early in the morning!"

It was going to be a really long day.

Leaning against the wall near where the drinks would be served, Dario watched as Rayne wandered about the store, examining the things they had for sale from coffee cups to expensive and fancy machines. After a few moments, she became bored and began to wander back in his general direction, her pace picking up when her drink appeared on the small counter for pickup along with Dario's own.

She surprised him by actually picking both drinks up and bringing his the rest of the way to him, not even trying to play keep away or something with the hot drink. Any further contemplation of the matter was effectively cut short as he noticed another young man approaching and greeting them.

Pushing himself off the wall to stand at his full height, he found slight entertainment in the scowl Rayne shot his way as she found herself once more surrounded by those quite a bit taller than herself. Offering the newcomer a nod of acknowledgment, he made no attempt to offer a vocal greeting of any sort. Rayne however, made a face as it was once again pointed out how early it was, obviously still not happy with the fact herself.

"It's to early." The complaint was muttered under her breath and to no one in particular, whining for the sake of it most likely.

Lucien wasn't a morning person, and like recognized like as he smiled sympathetically towards the pair he'd just approached. "Definitely too damned early," he agreed equably as he took another sip of his coffee, "but some days are just like that. By the way," coffee shifted hands, and his right hand slid out in greeting, "I'm Lucien. Over there's my partner, Z. He's having a bad morning, so forgive him if he bites." The words were said half in jest as he used the hand holding the coffee cup to indicate Z, who was slowly making his way over, a black scowl on his face.

He could tell, just by the expression, that Z was not pleased that he'd decided to socialize this early, but was resigned to the fact that he was also now involved and couldn't be dragged away. They were up earlier than they needed to be, anyway, and their meeting with the contact wasn't until an hour or so later. Still, those facts wouldn't change Z's usual aversion to making small talk, and propensity to say the things that shouldn't be said for the sake of politeness.

His prediction was proven true, when Z finally came to a stop, positioning himself so that the four of them were standing in a loose circle of sorts. The violet-eyed boy took a sip out of his coffee, grimaced, and then grinned. The grin should've made Lucien wary, but by then, it was too late. "I bite, but it's too early for that s**t right now." Great.

Z's smile just widened as violet-eyes flickered over, then back to the two they'd just met as though reading Lucien's mind. He supposed it was payback, of sorts. Giving a shrug as though to say, 'well, that's Z, forgive him his social lapses,' Lucien continued brightly, "so, are you two new to SHIBUSEN?"

Taking the offered hand, Dario gave it only the briefest of shakes before dropping his own again, preferring not to prolong the contact unless need be, not out of rudeness but just personal preference. "Dario." He supplied, figuring Rayne could introduce herself just fine if she felt like it, and a bit of conversation would do her good this early in the day although he knew she would happily continue to sulk behind him and snap at people.

It took her only a moment of studying the three boys before her voice rose again, sulkily supplying her own name to the conversation so that no one could call her on her rudeness. "I'm Rayne." Her voice was missing it's normal lilting notes and taunting edge, proof that the caffeine and sugar in her drink had yet to kick in.

Her expression lifted however, when Z joined them and spoke for the first time, her usual smile spreading across her face, and a little humor glittering in her eyes. Dario looked less amused with the statement, although a slight flicker of amusement flicked across his features and softened them slightly, if only for a moment.

Of course, with her returned humor, Rayne beat Dario to answering the next question posed to them, easily sounding much more awake than she had just moments before. "Yep, we're pretty new I suppose~" Raising a finger to her lips she tapped the lip ring sitting in the center of her bottom lip as she twitched them back in forth in thought before bobbing her head in some kind of understanding. "How long have you two been here?" Her eyes turned back to them, flicking between the two for a moment as she rocked back onto her heels and lowered her hand again.

So, the man didn't like physical contact. Or perhaps it was handshaking in general. Lucien made a mental note of the fact, even as he nodded to the both of them, repeating their names out of courtesy. Beside him, Z didn't bother, merely standing there drinking his coffee, an expression that couldn't quite be called a scowl, but definitely couldn't be called friendly on his face.

It flashed into a swift grin in response to Rayne and Dario's amusement, however, as Z was surprised to find that the two that he was now stuck with thanks to Lucien's maneuverings at least had a sense of humor.

"Us?" As usual, it was Lucien who spoke for them, leaving Z with nothing to do but sip his coffee and try not to wince at the heat of the liquid, "I've been around SHIBUSEN for a long time, but only joined the school a year or so ago. Z's been part of the school for longer than that. And you two? How are you finding the school?" He paused, considering the circumstances that they were now in, before deciding that most likely, the other two weren't in too much of a hurry. "Standing here's a little bit awkward... should we go find a seat?"

Z bit back on a sigh as the inevitable question came into play. He appreciated that Lucien did most of the social talking and bullshit that was required, he really did. But preferably, he would be enjoying it from a distance, rather than being dragged right in the middle of the fray. So instead of glowering the way he wished to, he settled instead for rolling his eyes and twisting one corner of his lips up in a wry grin. "Since it looks like we'll be here a while, I think I'll also get some food. Either of you want some?" He didn't bother addressing the question to Lucien - he knew his partner's habits well, and the TECHNICIAN detested watering down his morning overdoes of caffeine with food.

Content to let Rayne lead the their side of the conversation, Dario only partially listened to what Lucien was saying, enough to be considered polite to some degree; the rest of his attention drifting to watch Z burn his tongue on his drink again and take brief note of the other early morning patrons. His attention returned in full to the discussion when the matter of sitting down to continue the conversation arose, his mouth opening to politely refuse.

"How about that table?" Unfortunately, Rayne was always the faster talker. Letting out a slightly annoyed sigh, he didn't protest when the tiny girl grabbed his arm with he hand not holding her drink and started to drag him over the the table she had apparently chosen, one in the very back corner and not to close to the shops other customers.

Of course, her determination to move him was short lived as Z mentioned food and her attention was once more divided. "Do they sell cookies? Or brownies? Or cake? Or-"

"Rayne, you already have sugar." He couldn't quite mask the annoyance in his voice as he raised it just enough to cut Rayne off. He knew she wouldn't eat anything healthy (not that the coffee shop seemed to offer anything healthy) and she really didn't need more sugar, much less get someone she barely knew to buy it for her.

"There is no such thing as to much sugar!" She chirped brightly, quite happy to disregard his opinion in the matter completely. Sticking out her hand she made a brief give-me motion with her fingers, smiling brightly when Dario just glared lightly before fishing out his wallet and handed it to her. Ignoring his grumbled comment about diabetes, she whirled back around to skitter back to the counter and figure out something to eat.

"Huh." One eyebrow quirked upwards as Z noted the quick action between Dario and Rayne, amused eyes tracking the bright-haired figure to the counter as he mentally laughed at the exchange. Amusement still glittered in his eyes as Z tipped his head, a wry grin turning his lips upward as he met Dario's eyes. "Did you want anything? I've still got my wallet."

Without really waiting for a response, the WEAPON sipped his coffee, winced, and turned to head back the way they'd come, long strides taking him to the counter beside Rayne in seconds. "Give me two of those breakfast sandwiches. The ones with the sausage in them." Z scowled as the girl behind the counter mumbled something, and added, "for here. Yes, hot is good."

All but growling, the violet eyed boy turned and noted Rayne still looking at the pastries. There was a pause, and then a wicked gleam transformed his face into less sullen lines as he remembered the other man's earlier words. "By the way, if you're looking for sugar, those donuts are probably the way to go."

Now seated at the table, Lucien's hand paused in the middle of putting his drink down, and he darted a glance over to Dario to gauge his reaction. The distance between their table and the counter was short enough that Z's deep voice traveled with ease, and it sounded like his partner's grumpiness earlier this morning did nothing to prevent him from purposely pushing others' buttons.

"So, how're you finding SHIBUSEN, Dario?" It wasn't likely, but perhaps conversation would distract the man enough so that Z could have his fun. "I don't really recall seeing you two around the school much."
PostPosted: Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:28 pm

Glancing away from his partner, Dario quickly declined the offer extended by Z, although he wasn't sure if the other man heard him or not before heading over to the counter and towards Rayne. He wasn't all that worried about Rayne having his wallet since he wasn't all that hungry himself, and he doubted she would spend all that much (it would, after all, diminish the chances of her getting anything later).

After another glance back at the two by the counter, he turned his attention back towards Lucien, not quite managing to hide his wince when he heard what the two behind him were now discussing. Rayne didn't need encouragement....

"It's a school; we're both still new." No need to elaborate on it, not that there would have been much to elaborate anyways. What was there really to say about a school? Sure, this one was a bit weirder than most, but it was still just a school in the end.

Turning teal eyes upwards, Rayne studied Z as he stepped up beside her and ordered his food in his own, rather unhappy, manner. She allowed herself to roll her eyes at all the scowl-y, growl-y before once more turning her attention to the case of sweet things before her.

Before she could get much farther that that, though, that boy raised his voice again, this time sounding much more social... and perhaps a bit evil as he pointed out the donuts to her, with all their gooey frosting and colourful sprinkles. Peeking up at him again, she purposefully made her eyes widen into a look of innocent horror. "But think what they might do to my figure!" She gestured wildly about for a second to emphasize her dilemma.

Of course the whole argument was shot when a second later she whirled toward the girl behind the counter, grin in place, and proceeded to ask for three of the confections, and a brownie. Opening Dario's wallet, she promptly fished out a few bills to pay for the food.

Not a particularly talkative one, hm? The thought floated through Lucien’s mind as he took another sip of his Americano, slowly savoring the taste. Calm, too. Sharp green eyes noted Dario’s wince as Z successfully persuaded the girl to buy a ridiculous amount of sugar along, but he was impressed when the other made no movement to try and stop his WEAPON. He hoped that the caffeine would kick in soon – he had a feeling he’d need all his wits in order to pry open the tall boy seated across from him.

For now though... ”That’s true, but it’s not just any school, and there’s eccentricities everywhere. Have you done any missions yet?” he could just follow the same old conversational topics that everyone used to make small talk at SHIBUSEN.

Z’s amusement turned into a full out grin at Rayne’s words and expression, one eyebrow arching as he surveyed the curvaceous figure before him. ”With the level of energy you’re exuding, probably nothing?”

He stepped nimbly out of the way as the bright haired girl all but danced to the counter, ordering not one, but three of the sugary things. Wow. He wasn’t sure he’d ever seen anyone take sugar addiction quite that far.

Intrigued, Z leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee thoughtfully as Rayne paid for her food from Dario’s wallet. He waited until the barista was busy preparing their food before reaching out to catch the girl’s attention with a light poke in the shoulder. Lifting up his coffee, he mock-toasted her before drinking a long gulp of the liquid, his eyes dancing over the rim of the cup. ”I’m impressed. That’s going to be some sugar rush.”

Behind Z, the barista had finally finished putting their orders on a tray. With a quick tilt of his head towards the table, the WEAPON invited Rayne to follow as he picked up the tray easily with his free hand and began to make his way back – though he suspected the prompt was probably unnecessary. If he’d read the girl correctly, sugar was like the carrot on a stick that would lead her anywhere.
