Is it just me thinking this or does anyone else think that the guild subforums and such could benefit from an overhaul feat or two? Hell, maybe an overhaul Prestige class?

Heh, yah, the guild set up is kinda old. I first put everything together when there were still only like, 50 or 60 guild members.
What kind of overhaul were you thinking of?

i think the campaign threads could be organized into a few subforums. perhaps having one for active campaigns and a second for inactive and closed campaigns. then the main forum could be used for chat threads.
another possibility would be to make a subforum for inactive campaigns, sticky the active ones, and the rest could be the chat threads, maybe reversing that and sticky-ing the chat threads instead if that would be easier.
a third way would be to make subforums for the chat threads and inactive campaigns, sticky the most active and popular campaigns, and leave moderately active campaigns as is.
((this is one of the reasons why im crew in over half of my 20 or so guilds. XD))

We do have a sub forum for inactive threads - Thread Heaven, but haven't had much time to move all of the inactive threads there.
I'm hoping that we'll soon be able to get back on top of that.
I did think about moving campaign threads to their own sub forum, but people tend not to check them regularly, which is why I left them in the main. I could do a new area for discussions, like I did with the custom creations, but again people don't really check them, so the threads there tend to die.
I think that stickying the active campaigns may work the best, since that would keep it in the main area where people could check up on them easier, and leave the discussion threads unstickied.

i agree concerning how people usually tend not to check subforums regularly, but in my experience, it often helps greatly if the subforums are well organized. both in the order they are listed, and in the organization of threads in the subforums themselves. role plays actually tend to be more active in subforums when they are well organized. while general chat threads tend to do much better on the main forums.
HOWEVER, badly organized subforums have been the death of several guilds im in. in one guild im crew in, i usually have to spend a minute or 2 actively searching for the crew forum among about 10 other unrelated subforums. the main forum is pretty well organized there, but the subforums are so jumbled up that it has lead to even much of the crew being pretty inactive, and only 1 or 2 normal members ever post. im one of about 5 people (both members and crew) that are still active enough to actually call ourselves active, and who are desperately trying to revive the guild. the guild itself is actually very unique and has a lot of potential to become one of the largest guilds on gaia IMO, being a cross between anime & video game based forum RPs and games like Super Smash Brothers.

I dunno, putting the guild campaign in it's own sub forum for neatness and all that is what eventually killed it. People didn't bother to check that area of the guild and would forget to post.
I'm all for doing a re-org of the guild and making things easier to find, but the campaigns should be on the main page. I know some guilds have it so that once a campaign is active for X amount of time it's moved to a sub forum, but I'm not sure if that would work for us here. Maybe just sticky it if it gets going?
As it is though (and from what I've seen in this particular guild so far) putting the campaigns in their own sub forum would hurt them more than help them.
I am open to any suggestions about other sub forums you all would like to see here (like a non-dnd area, a discussions area, etc).

Same here, but I was thinking more along the lines of taking out/deleting some/all of the old useless threads that nobody even bothers with anymore. That sticky the active games sounds like a great idea too though! I wouldn't mind helping out with anything, I too could use something to do while I'm waiting for people to post in campaigns or even show up for games.

Nah, we got it. We're down to just the main page now. The old threads that are still there are there because they're amusing and will hopefully live again now that they're back on the first page.
Games that are active (and have been active for at least two sessions) are now stickied with the discussions being left unstuckied.
We'll see how that all works for now 3nodding
I'm also planning on updating the guild rules and FAQ sometime within the next two weeks.
So, other than that, is there anything else y'all would like to see here in the guild? Any other areas or anything?

let me look, that only thing i can think of is the character sheet page if we still have it. I remember how mired it was with the separate games running and different characters being played by the same people.
EDIT* well i went and looked, but i don't really have any idea how to un-bog it.

Yeah, I dunno, that subforum is a total mess. All I can think of is doing a directory and cleaning out the sheets from people no longer in the guild.

perhaps we should make a sub forum for old character sheets so they could be pulled from for npc's or quick characters? that way our old members could still have a way to contribute to our fun.

I know I'm new, but I'd like to make a suggestion for the character sheet section. I know you've got it already mentioned in one of the stickies to post your characters by name lvl, class, etc... but that seems to be going unheeded.
in order to clean things up (and this suggestion would take awhile to implement)
Create a sticky which can be updated by someone on crew, where each player's active characters can be listed (or alternatively, a set number per player).
each character name is set as a link, so that it links to the actual thread containing it. you're probably thinking, "but thats how the forum itself should work already." technically you're right but I feel doing it this way would allow for a lot more control over organization. they could be sorted by campaign, or level, or merely inactive, and active.
As I said this suggestion would be alot of work, but it would make it so there was only one thread anyone needed to check. just tell people that they have to link so and so their character's page when they start using them, and what campaign it's for, then that person can update the page.
if this is unreasonable, i understand, but i don't know how much you're willing to put in to organize it.

We used to have that actually, but the person maintaining it hasn't been able to be on the site in awhile. I have started up another directory thread ( here) outside of the character sheet forum but so far it's gone unused. I'm planning on making an announcement for it at some point (as well as some other threads) so hopefully that'll help get people using it.
