Quote: As of now, Catholics will be the only members accepted. Please only apply if you are Catholic. In your application, please include why you would like to be a part of the guild (as well as if you are Catholic or not, just to be sure).
what do you think?

To be honest you should not point fingers. Do we allow non followers of the craft in? I doubt we do. So perhaps tollerance is needed here. >.>

Well if it was a Catholic interest guild in the religion category I don't see the problem. I'm sure they're trying to reduce the numbers of flamers.

Honestly, I think it's rediculous. That's discrimination, and unless it's an ENTIRELY Catholic based guild, it should get in trouble. What if people were kicked out because it was found they weren't Catholic? Idiotic!

Actually, I'm pretty unbothered by this, as long as it's only a Catholic-based guild. I don't see why we, as witches, should take offense, since, well, we arn't Christian, let alone Catholic. What would we be doing in a guild such as that anyway? I for one, wouldn't go out of my way to join a Christian guild, just as many of them would never even think of coming here. It's a matter of choice.
@iHecate: I agree, we do need to take the upper-hand and show tolerance. Sure, Christians try and convert us because we're 'heathens' and all that good stuff we hold so dear, yet it shows we are more mature if we don't do the same.
I was trying to explain this to my grandmother yesterday (who ironically happens to be Catholic):
They, as Christians, don't know what Paganism is about; it's complexity, the many, many religions it encompasses...just as we have no right to judge them, they shouldn't judge us either. And, when it comes down to the "One God" thing? Think of it as a really, really small pantheon. Just as each deity falls under a specific pantheon, (Diana to the Romans, Pan to the Greeks, Freya and Odin to the Norse...) so too does does the Christian and Judaic god. Yes their god reigns supreme for them, and they would be strict monotheists. Well good for them. I'm a hard polytheist; I have my deities that I hold above all others, and that works for me. If you think about it, doesn't everything (prayers, spells, ect) go to the same place? A popular NeoPagan teaching is that the God and Goddess both came from one thing ("The One"): "Before time was, there was the One; the One was All, the All was One.... And so on. So, for the sake of argument, wouldn't we, when we worship in our separate and distinct ways, not be ultimately worshiping the same "One"?
The God and Goddess came from the One and, through Them, we give personify the Universe. The Christians personify the Universe through their God as well. Is it really so different?

i completely agree with lamia because we all have choices to choose who you want to be so why should we get a guild and they dont. thinking that they have no right to is being just as bad and giving people the wrong impression that us as witches are supreme to everyone so people will judge us even more harshly then they already do.

Aww thanks guys. I feel loved. heart Unfortunately, 9/10 times you use this argument, it still doesn't work because of Christian doctrine. Once, I even tried "What do you mean I don't beleive in God? He just has a wife now!" which didn't end well. I don't recommend that one. >.>; Though, do you know that the Catholic Church adopted the Pentacle when they first started converting in Europe? Remind people that when they go on about how it's a sign for the devil. wink
Jesus 'said' (after all, the bible was written well after his death and has been altered to suit people's purposes countless times, so we won't really know what went down. countless times that he is the only way to heaven and that Pagans, because they worshiped more than one God (most of the time), need to be converted so they could go to heaven. Another popular thing Christians quote is the verse "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" (Hence, the Burning Times and the Salem Trials), however, this was mistranslated from Hebrew (sorry, I don't remember what it was saying originally) to excuse the Burning Times and the Protestants adopted it in the New World for the Witch Trials.
People, parents especially, see Paganism as a sure way to hell for their loved ones, and that's why it's so hard to accept. Especially if you were baptized a Christian (or Catholic for that matter). When our parents had us baptized, they made a promise to their God to raise us in their faith and help us grow in it. When we turn our backs on this, we're breaking their promise. They feel like they've failed as parents. What makes it worse is many witches adopt an air of either "We are so much better than you because we can do a, b, and c!" or "Why must you always persecute us?" When we make such a stink such as getting into an all Catholic guild and 'corrupting' it, we help give ALL witches a bad name.
If we show everyone responsibility and, most of all, maturity, as we continue to call ourselves witches, we can work towards changing the beliefs that Paganism is really not all that bad. Though we may not be dedicated, oathbound members of the Wiccan clergy, we should still act like we are priests and priestesses since we DO represent our own God and Goddess in whatever we do. ^^
Sorry for the wall-o-text again, this is just something I really believe in, and things I've worked out. I've discussed most of these points with my family at length, and so a lot of the Christian beliefs are based on what they've had to say along with a few other people I've spoken with, including priests. Also, I studied the bible extensively for over a decade. My bible teacher back in 8th grade, when I first started Seeking, still remains my favorite teacher and I still go and visit him every homecoming game (that school, which I thankfully no longer go to was k-12) and we sit in the grass and have these long religious discussions. ALSO, Christians see our religion as a cop-out, a free-for-all, don't let them. Show them we can take the higher road and be better people. ^^
