Not that anyone will respond, but I'm just wondering what are your thoughts on the term "illegal alien"? I hate it!

I think it dehumanizes like all of the other labels this American society creates!!

I would love to get other opinions. I don't care if the subject of the thread is at all changed or tweaked a bit. I just want to talk about something, most of all talk.

I do not like the word as well.
They're people just like you and me.

Exactly! I mean yes they might not be respecting the law we have against immigration and such, but that doesn't mean we have to turn around and insult them or make them feel completely unwelcome.

Why can't we have a welcoming manner instead of always pushing people out? I am arguing with someone else about this in another guild...she's beating me I must say. I don't know much about the rules and regulations on immigration.

I just find the term "illegal alien" quite offense. I don't want to be walking down the street and have someone look at me like I'm something strange. If you want to think of strange just think of the sick list of serial killers we have...you know?

Uneducated.

Illegal alien, or alien in short, means a person or being not of that area.
I am from washington.
I live in michigan.
I am considered an Alien.

You blame america for using that term.
When we didnt even create it, russia did.

Illegal is added when someone from another country who is not a citizen shows up and tries to be apart of that country.

I support and use that word.
I dont care if they are human.
They are coming to our country.
Not paying taxes like us.
Not paying burdens like us.
In the end we take the falls.
We "americans" are losing our jobs and such due to mexicans and other culters rushing here to get in on our living.

Send them where they came from,
They want to be a legal citizen?
Let them work for it and do the paper work.

I am not racist,
Im a realist.

You have a point, but I learned that the term illegal alien refers to people not of this country i.e America. (Oh, and the word foreign means not of this country or native of...illegal alien is terms we use to refer to that word)

And...it doesn't refer to you being from and living in Michigan. I have never been called an "alien" by anyone in Iowa when I'm from California. That doesn't seem logical to me. The conversation usually goes something like this..."oh you're from California?! Cool. And I say yeah, but it wasn't the beach parts it was the good old desert." And they usually say oh, that sucks. End of conversation. Nothing about being an "alien" to Iowa...

I don't remember hearing about Russia creating the term either...We "Americans" won't even do half the jobs the Mexicans hop the borders for. Along with other cultures. We're notoriously lazy, that's what we are.

If you really want them to be a legal citizen you would facilitate ways to help them do that not keep them out.

You could help them learn English. Tell your library to make Rosetta Stone accessible on their computers or something. I don't know, but it's ridiculous that they have to be judged and insulted when there is so much more disappointing sh*t we "Americans" should be worried about.

Frankly, I don't find this country an ideal place to live...I might love my country for the sake of it being a little more lenient with freedoms compared to China, but I'm still extremely disappointed in it and its people.

Oh, and I'm sure you'll call me out on saying that I should help. Well, you know I think I can help in the fact that I know Spanish. It may come in handy, it may not. I have no idea...but it's really hard (meaning as in finding the time) to get involved in your community so I can understand if you have trouble with it too.

Here is evidence that our country has just become lazy with words and decided to group illegal and alien together to coin a term referring to immigrants.

I don't see anything wrong with "illegal alien." It's just describing what they are. It's obvious that they're people...but I don't think that's good enough of a reason to make them feel welcome for breaking immigration laws.

And on the "Americans won't do the jobs that Mexicans will do" issue...that also depends on those who are hiring them-it's also up to those who want to pay less for labor. (Oh, and Mexicans aren't the only illegal aliens).

I definitely don't think illegal aliens refers to immigrants. People just equate them to make the issue seem race-based or foreigner-based. The real problem is with the violation of laws, I think.

I can agree with you that the problem has to be the violation of laws but, I still think it's wrong to continue to refer to these people (not just immigrants) as if there something vile that walks the earth. I have made friends with people at school who would be considered "illegal aliens" and one of them took offense and still won't get over the fact that he is referred to as that. I have no idea but I guess as a sensitive person it just gets to me and otherwise I could give a crap about people crossing borders or living in this country illegally. It will happen no matter what is done to try and fix the problem.

Yes, "illegal alien" can be interpreted as an insult but still, I think that it's a term that speaks the truth-is someone an illegal alien? It's either yes or no. Whether it's "wrong" to use this word or not depends on who you're dealing with.

Yes, illegal immigration is quite...difficult to solve...but so is using terms like "illegal aliens." It's too bad that there's no way to stop people from using words like that. Whether it's offensive or not depends on how one uses the word too.

And I'll end with that............

You're totally right and I can completely agree with you that's completely open to interpretation and how one uses the word. I just don't understand why people have to use it so negatively. I suppose I'm beating this into the ground and in circles, but my logic just cannot wrap it's mind around it. Are these people really causing that big of a problem? We all about diversity right? America is diverse nation and we apparently accept it according to the government so why do we have such I guess spite would be a much lighter word than hatred...so why do have such spite against these illegal immigrants? I get the answer "because that's just it, they're illegal." For me that doesn't sum it up...

Maybe I'm still beating it into the ground because I'm sure the people I'm asking here cannot supply an answer to my questions. I'll just let you guys think about it. And I hope you don't feel I'm trying to diss you Kaze, I'm just actually simply agreeing with you, but with my own doubts I guess.

Don't worry, it's no problem. You have the right to your opinion and I had no intentions of trying to change it (at least I hope I didn't sound that way)...
