~Background~She grew up as an orphan in the slums of Rukongai. (the Rukon district) She was always a rather quiet child and kept out of people's way, as a result she was very lonely growing up. When she got old enough she decided to become a Soul Reaper and rapidly advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming captain of squad 8.
~Personality~ Hotaru is very distant and comes off as cold and unconcerned when you first meet her. But she is actually a very friendly, cheerful person. She is very optimistic and hates taking things too seriously. She is very intelligent and extremely wise. She is great at giving advice and keeping secrets.
~Techniques~Hotaru sticks mostly to wind and lightning based attacks. She also has some minor healing abilities. She is very light on her feet and fast.
~Zanpakuto~Her zanpakuto are two small metallic fans connected by a relatively long chain. One fan uses wind based attacks, the other uses lightning.
Shikai-Her two fans merge into one large,powerful fan. It rains down powerful wind and lighting attacks on her enemy. It reduces her speed but makes an excellent shield.
Bankai- The fan again morphs into a a large silvery bird that protects her. The bankai basically fights for her,but this only lasts seven minutes, then it returns to it's original form. The bird continually rains down very powerful attacks on her enemy
