Upcoming books as movies that I'm aware of right now:
Cirque Du Freak as The Vampire's Assitant on October 24 (I think)
-With this one, they seem to have taken the same route as A Series of Unfortunate Events, condensing the first three books into one movie and putting a more comedic spin on it. I could be wrong of course. Not to say that it won't be a good movie, but it certainly won't be like the book series.
The Lightning Thief on February of 2010
-Just plain epic, can't wait to see it, and since it comes out in February I might get to see it for my birthday, but this is all speculation.

I've actually read all the Cirque Du Freak books (not that i liked the ending), but i'm glad they put a bit of comedic spin on it. though i wish they hadn't condensed 3 books into one. but they were short books, so it's understandable. i do want to see the movie though.

There are a great deal more books turning movies lately as the industry seems to be running out of fresh idea's. then again i thought that when they started popping out graphic novel's turned movies like popcorn.

I'm looking forward to the movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox. I loved that book when I was a kid.

It seems I always find myself liking a book better than the movie they make of it, though I've a terrible habit of liking anything related to Stephen King simply because I believe the man is a genius.

To be clear on this subject, just because I like everything related to Stephen King doesn't mean I always like a movie made from a book. I very much disliked the Queen of the Damned movie, though I like it at the same time. It's a different look at the story, albeit a very wrong, very non-canon version.

I like the Hitchhikers Guide movie, though it could never compare to the books.

I liked the Narnia movies they've made recently (and the ones from the 80's from the BBC), but the books will always hold a higher special place in my heart.

Oh, and I liked the movie The Da Vinci Code, but hated the book.

I did not like Eragon, and so never bothered to see the movie at all.

I read the first Twilight book because my best friend loves them, but I did not like it. I was dragged by another friend who had never read the books to see the movie. I hated that, too. It was equally as bad, if not worse, than the movie. And I have never found anything "sexy" about the actor who plays Edward, either. I don't see what the fuss about him is all for.

Likewise, I read the first Harry Potter book, in 5th grade, and despised it from the get-go. Read it all in one night, because I had to do a book report on it. Handed it in the next day by telling the teacher everything I thought was wrong with the book (namely, the writing style was tired and dry, the characters weren't believable, the storyline was weak, the setting was utterly ridiculous, and J.K. Rowling cannot write), and threw the book in the trash. She would have given me hell, except I was very concise, and knew exactly what I was talking about, and you really can't hold a persons opinion on a piece of literature against them, can you?
The only reason I have seen any of the movies is because so many damned people like it, and I get roped into watching them despite my always saying that I violently dislike the franchise and anything related to it. The movies are marginally better, but I still dislike them immensely.

I don't say no book should ever be made into a movie, but I do say this:
If a director/screenplay writer/actor takes on a movie that was originally a book, then that director has an obligation to the fans of that piece of literature to be a fan him- or herself. Because a real fan whose read the book, knows the story, knows the character(s), and loves it/them is the only kind of person who is going to get the story right, and getting the story right is all a real fan would ask of them.

There are so many movies that I feel I could have done better. For lack of reputation and lack of funds, I was unable. But I dream of doing my own versions of several book-to-movie adaptations, and getting them right. It's all I would ask of my fans, had I any, if any of my stories ever got turned into movies, and it is why Stephen King insists on doing the screenplays for all of his book-to-movie adaptations himself. Only a real fan or the original writer are going to truly give the best film adaptation. If you have no love for the story, if you have never read the book, if you don't read books, be it by that author, or in general, or if you don't like the story, and you're only doing it because of the money, or because you want to get famous off it, then you should never, never, nevernevernever be working on a film adaptation of it! Never.

I don't look forward to film adaptations of books. I anticipate them with a dread, and sometimes find myself pleasantly wrong. Other times, its not as bad as I thought it would be, but it still sucks. Once in a while, I'm dead on.
