Adept
Super Natural Steam Punk World War Roleplay

Story

Adepts. Special human beings with an otherworldly connection to the elements at their control. Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. Adepts are the rarest of the rare. Only a handful born every generation and of those handful only four of which move on to fully understand their powers.

In the days of the old, the four elements were all there were. However, now, a new type of adept has come to be. The Machine Adept. Capable of manipulating the metal, oil, and steam. Something of a hybrid, the Machine Adept has caught the attention of some very powerful people. As war consumes the planet, every country wants to Machine Adept to be under their control and will do anything to make that dream a reality. After his feats at Obengrad and Carlston, his usefulness in modern warfare has become very apparent.

The Machine Adept travels the globe, searching for those who he can assist to help the citizens of this war torn world through their darkest of days. However, special forces from governments the world over continue in their attempts to capture the Machine Adept and make him their own.

But can they?

Need to Know

Setting

This roleplay takes place in a world not unlike our world during the 1930-40 except instead of the use of diesel and gasoline, Steam Power is mainly used.

Weapons

The weapons used are similar to those used in our world. Click here for a list of weapons. Remember, you have to carry them all around, so be reasonable!

Adepts

Adepts are people with extraordinary abilities; control over the elements. Each Adept has a specific element which can been recognized simply by the color of their eyes. Adepts need only touch the element under their control to bring it to life and do with it as they please.

Fire Adept

With bright red eyes, Fire Adepts are quite violent and quick tempered. Of all the adepts these are the warriors. The Fire Adepts have been involved in warfare since the first war ever to be fought. Still used in modern combat, though not to the same degree the Fire Adepts continue their legacy by joining the current war that consumes the entire world.

-Fire Adepts may make physical contact with flames. There flesh will burn, but it takes much, much longer than a regular humans.

Water Adept

With deep ocean blue eyes, Water Adepts are often calm and collected, Water Adepts have been known to be biopolar, changing their moods as quickly as the sea changes from a dead calm to a wicked storm. The Water Adepts, however, are not much of fighters. They prefer to solve their problems with words rather than violence.

Earth Adept

With dark brown eyes, Earth Adepts are emotional rocks. They always remain calm and always think with a level head. Though sometimes thought to be stubborn or stupid, Earth Adepts are generally very well educated due to a natural curiosity. Throughout history, Earth Adepts have been known to assist great civilizations. It is said that for every great structure of years past, an Earth Adept was there every step of the way.

-Earth Adepts can manipulate the earth, but not the ores within her. However, they can alter stone and soils.

Wind Adept

With light blue, almost white eyes, Wind Adepts as free spirits. Doing as they please, they live not for the year, month, week or day, but for the hours, minutes and seconds. Most Wind Adepts wish for nothing more than to enjoy their years on this planet, and spread as much love and happiness as possible. However, don't be fooled by their easy going, happy-go-lucky attitude. When provoked, Wind Adepts almost always prove to be quite a challenge.

The Machine Adept

With steel-grey eyes, he is the first of his kind. The Machine Adept has control over all elements, but master none. . . At the moment. The Machine Adept is renown for his ability to manipulate entire machines. With nothing more than a touch, he is able to alter their very being. With control over the Earth, or more specifically the elements within her, he can change the machines shape and functions. With control over fire, water and wind, he can create a steam generator superior to anything even the greatest scientist and engineers of the age can create.

Brief Bio: Alexander and Sandy Wakefield wanted nothing more than to have a beautiful child to call their own, however, it wasn't long before that dream seemed as though it would never come true. Sandy began to get terribly ill, and though never diagnosed, the doctors assured them that whatever it was that Sandy was afflicted by was causing her immune system to weaken to dangerously low levels. As Sandy began to wither away, Alexander stayed by her side assuring her everything would be fine. One day, Sandy awoke with a surprising amount of energy. Believing that she was getting better, the two decided to celebrate and give having a baby one last try. In a few weeks, their success became very, very apparent. For the next nine months, the two lived happily but it wasn't until Sandy went into labor that her rare condition reared it's ugly head.

Sandy became weak and very ill and though the doctors did all they could, there was nothing they could do. Having just given birth to the baby she always wanted and taking her very own child in her arms for the first time, Sandy slipped away into a peaceful rest. When asked what it was he would name the baby, Alexander thought back to what he and Sandy had discussed. She had been stuck on Valentine. An odd name for the time, but there had been many in the past with such a name. It was also the first holiday they had spent together. "It's romantic." she had always said. With but a single look over to his now paling, unconscious wife, Alexander replied "Valentine Wakefield".

That day, the only ones to return home from the hospital were Alexander and Valentine. Sandy's condition worsened and not long after Valentine had been named, she passed away. Though deeply saddened by the loss of the one he loved, Alexander found himself with someone else to love. Alexander and his son were inseparable. As Valentine grew, Alexander noticed that items were disappearing and new ones were taking their place. First, the toast had disappeared and been replaced with a blender. Next, the refrigerator with a oven and the washing machine with a television. Alexander had no idea it was the work of his little boy, who was just recognizing his potential.

When Valentine began school, he was picked on by the other boys for his name and eye color and spending time with girls at that age was simply unacceptable. Instead, he distanced himself from the others and pondered on his abilities. When he turned twelve, Valentine began spending most of his time a young girl named Emma. The two grew very close and it was only a few years before the two confessed their love and only a short time after finishing all their public education they expressed it physically. Val took a job at a steel mill and Emma took one at a factory. The two soon combined their saving and decided they would try at getting a home. As rumors of war began to spread across the Great Sea, Valentine and Emma concerned themselves with noting more than finding the perfect home. After a few months of shopping around, they found one. With a down payment of half the houses value, they moved in a short while later.

Valentine and Emma filled the house with nothing but love and only a few days after talks of a child began, tragedy struck as it so often does. The rumors of war had soon become talks, then arguments and in not time at all battle cries. As a full fledged war consumed the Eastern continent, the West was soon drawn in. Men were drafted left and right, but luckily Valentine was not one of them. Several months into the now global war, the Axis launched a bombing campaign against the West. Entire cities were attack and rocked to their very core.

One day, while at Mill knowing his was was not-so-safely at home Valentine heard sirens. Having taken cover and waiting through a full hour of earth shaking explosions, Valentine rushed through the ruined city to his small home. As he neared he street, the rubble and smoke that surrounded him made it hard to breath. He could feel his heart quicken as time seemed to slow as he rushed into his crumbling, burning home. The city was in chaos and the cries of the dying and grieving filled the air. Val found his wife crushed under a pile of rubble. When he went to her side and checked to see if he was alive, he found no signs of life. Digging at the steaming rubble with his bare hands, he managed to free Emma and scooped up her limp body. He moved quickly to the exit, coughing deeply, his lungs heavy with smoke.

Though he knew Emma was dead, it didn't seem to click. He brought her body to the heavily damaged hospital and demanded she be treated. He was refused. Instead, they collected her body, tagged her as asked him to help those he could. Val obliged.

When all was said and done and the worst day of his life was over, Val returned to his burnt home. Standing in the smoldering doorway, he looked down at the ground and noticed a burnt photograph of Emma and himself. He had been partially burnt out the the picture while she remained virtually untouched by the flames. Folding the photograph, he placed it in his wallet.

The next day, along with hundreds, maybe thousands of other young men, Valentine signed up to go over seas and fight. During his time over seas, he finally but his powers to good use. At first, by repairing his squads damaged Jeep with a touch while under heavy fire. Next, by immobilizing a hostile tank. In the weeks, months and years to follow, Val began to understand his new ability. However, it was when word of his abilities reached the ears of the higher up's that trouble started for him. He was taken first into questioning. They wanted to know what exactly he was and later, if they could duplicate him. Believing he could be doing something more useful, Val made a daring escape only to be captured later by the enemy. After a brief stay at a P.O.W. camp, Valentine escaped. But this time, he had a meaning. A purpose. He promised himself to help anyone the Great War hurt in any way he could. How's he doing so far? Why don't you ask the citizens of Obengard and Carlston.

"Let me go!" The boy cried, struggling to break free from Val's powerful grasp. "Let go! I want to fight!"

Val grabbed the boys other arm and held him firmly, "And who are you to fight? Better men than you have fought and died and for what? You won't make a different. The only thing you'll add to this war is a body count. You're mother and sister need you and you're just going to turn you're back on them?"

"It's better than doing nothing!" The boy cried, his eyes beginning to well up, "I'm going to fight and I'm going to help win this war! I'm going to do something, not like you, you. . . Coward!" Valentine's eyes narrowed, and he gave the boy a quick shake. Leaning in close, so close he could feel the boys breath on his face, he spoke.

"You are not going to change anything by joining the fight. Fighting isn't what's going to end this war. Fighting leads only to more fighting, you should know that by now. Everyone should. . ." He trailed off a moment, "I can't let you enlist. If you want to contribute, take a job at one of the weapon factories. You're just a child. A man someday, but for now, just a child. Your mother needs you, your sister needs you. You're all they have left. Don't throw your life away."

The young boy stared up at Val for a moment without a word, then closed his teary eyes and let himself cry. Val felt the boy suddenly wrap his arms around him and sighed with relief. I wish it was always this easy. . . He thought with a feint smile."Come on, kid. Your families waiting." And with that, the boy pushed away and the two started back off towards the half ruined two story the boy and his family had once called home.

One person at a time. . . I'm going to end this war.
