A mysterious ruin between the lands, no one quite knows the origin of the structure or when it was built, but it seems to be... old. Very, very old indeed. Who can say what treasures lie here, sleeping at the bottom?

Rednal Ak'Thias quietly paced around the outer door of the ruin, frowning slightly. Beside him was a Light Sprite, a small fairy-like creature Summoners such as himself found useful in the evening hours, when they wanted to study a scroll but didn't feel like relying on something as troublesome as a torch. The Sprites could let out a steady flow of illumination, and that was quite a useful thing indeed. In this case, the Sprite was obliging her Summoner by shining on some of the strange markings on the outside of the ruins so he could study them more clearly... and perhaps even translate them. If he could figure out what the structure was, there was a good chance he could figure out what was likely to be inside of it.

((I hope I didn't have to ask you first. But seeing no one else signing up, I thought I'd give it a go.))

Power. That was what he needed. Absolute, total, and unbeatable power. If he was to gain revenge on the monsters that dared to murder his family, and drive his sister out of his home, then he needed more power.

He didn't care how he would obtain it, as long as it would make him stronger.

That was the dominant thought that burned through Kalas' mind for over ten years. No matter what he did, he needed more power. That is why he travels: to see what he can see, and extract anything useful he could. Nothing would stop him. Absolutly nothing.

Following a rumor he had overheard, something about a ruin, Kalas had set it as his new destination. Maybe there was something there, something that he could use...

As he approached the entrance, however, he took note of a light. Approaching cautiously, a hand on the hilt of his sword, he saw a human figure. Who could it be? What was he here for?

But these ruins... much more fasinating. They appear to be covered in markings, some sort of language unknown to him. Maybe this person could decipher it?

He approached the man, "Excuse me," he started, being as polite as he could, which wasn't much, "You know anything about these ruins?"

"These ruins are..." Rednal began, a glint in his eyes. "Really freaking old!" the Light sprite with him flashed dramatically. "I'm trying to figure out how to get inside without blowing a hole in the wall; that usually doesn't work too well for saving any treasures inside." he chuckled darkly, very darkly for a member of a race of pacifist cat-people. Whirling around, Rednal went back to studying the runic inscription and comparing it to marks in a well-used book he was carrying. You had to be careful with these sorts of things, or they could go wild on you. Not that Rednal was particularly worried about getting hurt, of course, but still. It was always better to be careful.

This guy was... odd. Still, he seemed harmless. To him anyway.

He joined him in locating the entrance, "Well, from my experience," he started, "If there's no visible entrance, then there has to be some sort of switch, device, or an obect that must be used to open a hidden door."

He looked around, "So far, I haven't seen anything. You have anything that could have something to do with this?"

"Psh. I don't even own anything this old; the closest you can get are my little friends." the light sprite settled on his shoulder and blinked on and off in a friendly sort of manner. Rednal idly reached over and scratched it. "And with something like this, I wouldn't be surprised if they made it so that there was no door at all, just to annoy people like me." he seemed vaguely amused by the situation, and didn't seem to be particularly worried about it.

"...Rediculous," Kalas huffed, "If there is any kind of structure, then there's a way to get in. It's just a matter of finding the way,"

Kalas was anxious to get in. He needed to confirm the treasure he could find here. What if it was a new sword? A magical relic? Or anything useful? He really wanted in. Now.

Rednal shrugged. "The Ancients were mysterious in their manifold ways of doing things." he answered mildly. "On the other hand, sometimes they're very simple, too." he slammed his fist against the wall, and a doorway opened a few feet away. "There we go." he said cheerfully. It was helpful to be able to translate ancient runic inscriptions; they helped with things like directions, since the Ancients, in their many mysterious ways, were often kind enough to create maps. You just had to be able to read them... or in this case, be able to read the inscription for 'press to open'.

Well, looks like he's going to have a companion on this adventure. Oh well. It's good to have an extra pair of hands.

And if the treasure turns out to be something he needed... Well, he'll cross that bridge when he gets to it.

"Well, then. Guess we're here on similar buisness," he concluded as he took a step inside the door, "Wonder what this place has? Hm..."

"I wouldn't advance too quickly if I were you." Rednal said mildly as a guillotine-like blade slashed down an inch or so in front of the other man. "Place like this is bound to have traps, know what I mean?" he chuckled slightly and stepped inside as well, his tiny friend illuminating the hallway. The young Ijutsu-tribesman ran a hand over the wall, looking at a complex series of runic inscriptions. "Huh..." he said, sounding rather interested in whatever it was he was studying.

Dammit! He was too careless! An inch further and he would be meeting his family before his time...

"Sorry," he apologized, although he wasn't sure why. It's not like they were best friends...

But he noticed the man stopped and started looking at a rune, "Hm?" he started, "You read something important?"

If he did... maybe it was a keyphrase or something important in order to get the two of them down to the heart of these ruins...

Rednal uttered what most people would consider a stream of gibberish, then scratched his head. "That can't be right." he noted before shrugging. "Well, I suppose it could be worse." he held up a hand and focused his willpower. A runic circle appeared on his palm, and from it appeared a small mouse-like entity, though it was transparent. A ghost, or a spirit of some sort. "We need to see if there are any traps down this hall; would you mind?" he asked. The mouse-spirit scratched its head, then nodded, leaped off his hand, and shot down the hallway. "He'll come back to let us know if there's any trouble up ahead; spirit mice are very good at spotting traps." the Summoner said cheerfully before starting forward. Most people seemed to figure that strength and armor were the best things to have in places, but as far as the relaxed Summoner seemed to care, sometimes smaller was indeed better.

"What's not right?" Kalas asked, "Something... other than the traps may be down here? You could have told me before I-woah!"

He took a startled step back when he summoned that mouse. Was that... a real summon spell?

"...Ijutsu," he muttered. He had heard Ijutsu could heal with magic and aid those in danger... but Summoning? He had heard rumors... but he disregarded them as false, since none of his Ijutsu contracts had ever been able to summon!

Ijutsu... just like his sister.

"Rhea..." He muttered out loud, without meaning to. But his mind drifted to thoughts of his sister. He was so shamed that day. He had reacted... so wrong. It was still a shock, for his sister to really be an Ijutsu Tribe member... But that wasn't how he should have reacted. And now... he was alone because of it.

He wanted to see her again. He didn't even know if she was still alive!

Well, this wasn't the time to worry about it. Right now, he was exploring ruins. He honestly wasn't afraid. He just needed information, and so far, this guy was the only person who could decipher information.
After learning of his Ijutsu power, Kalas somehow felt... closer to him. Why? He didn't know. He shouldn't, he knew, but... he did.

Rednal shrugged. "Haven't a clue." he answered. "Hence sending my little friend up ahead to investigate things." he continued walking for a few minutes until the mouse-spirit ran back into view and jumped into his hand again, squeaking frantically. "Ah. Um, trouble. Big... furry trouble." he said as a wolf as tall as he was padded into view. "So, how good are you at combat?" the Summoner asked. Everybody knew that Ijutsu were worthless when it came to hand-to-hand combat, or even with weapons. Rednal did carry a staff, but he used it for walking and as a summoning aid, not to whack enemies with. They just had no talent for that sort of thing.

Now was not the time for talk. Now was the time for action.

"...I'm competent," He said as he reached inside his cloak and pulled out his Katana. As the blade hissed through the air, its ebon edge glared in the darkness of the ruins, almost as if it wanted to cut.

"Stay back. Leave this thing to me," he hissed as he stepped forward.
